Hi guys looking to get a remanned engine for my 91 mj it's leaking oil pretty bad with a small knock. I've decided as money and time permits I will rebuild it as a stroker, but I must keep my truck on the road now so that's why I'm looking into these remanned engines there are many with alot of mixed reviews on all of them so I figured I would just ask here and see who you guys have experience with. Which one would be the best option I think I have it narrowed down to ATK and Titan they just have decent prices that fit my budget at the moment under 2 grand any suggestions are welcomed and apreciated

I've heard good things about both of those companies, but never bought from either company.  I'd say either or would be fine but I'm sure some other members may want to share their actual experiences.

I just bought a atk 4.0 and it came in yesterday. I will let you know how it goes when I get it in. But as far as looks it looks good already painted and was well oiled.

I bought mine from advance and got it out the door for 1450.00 roughly but I was very impressed with the shipping only took 3 days to get and the shipping was free

That's cheap!

That was with the core right I just got a price from advanced for 1900 without core get 300 for core 1600 that's more expensive than RA that price I stated was without a core also do you know the difference in the atk spartan and regular atk that's just throwing me off

Advance auto parts can work on the price. So I think you could get it cheaper. mine was 1450 and it's the atk they also had a cheaper motor also.

That is with core or without brooks?

Since you were looking at spending $1745 (plus $350 core charge) for a rebuilt 4.0 from Titan and then want to rebuild your core engine to a 4.6 stroker, why not just get the Titan Stroker for $2899 the first time and give them your old engine to save the $350 core charge?   I know money is tight, but for $800 you just plug in the rebuilt stroker and you are done with it.  No eating the core charge, no pulling the engine again to do a stroker.

You might also do some research on the stroker board to see what those fellows say about different engine builders.  More stroker users there than on the ComancheClub.

Yea I was thinking about that but all the mixed reviews on the net really about all the remained stuff has got me nervous I wish someone knew of a good local shop in North louisiana then I would just let them take mine and build a stroker and probably come out cheaper in the long run plus have the added advantage of looking at them in the face and shaking their hand! The problem I've been running into with the places I call give no warranty that's scary seems like they don't believe in their work

Built mine with the Titan 4.7 stroker kit had the block machined for 500 along withthe head and all new cam bearings springs etc I was at 1800 doing it myself and it is not hard at all

How many miles on it are you happy with the Titan kit?

Don't walk away from an ATK reman engine...run!!!!   The first one I put in my '90 lasted 282 miles before the cam bearings grenaded.  If you want to read the horror story check out my build thread for Maura.

Thx yea I've heard way to many bad things but I've heard a lot of good also my main reason for probably not going for any of the remaned stuff is the warranty issues if there is a problem this is a big investment for me I just can't take a risk of just being SOL with a dead engine and no money searching really hard in North louisiana now for a reputable engine shop to do a rebuild or possibly a stroker

ooorrrrrrr, you could replace the leaky gasket and ignore the knock.  In a Jeep inline engine, that's hardly a death-knell.

Yea that's definitely option not one I'm willing to take. 4.0's are tough but, I have been on the side of the road with one believe it or not. Which I'm sure many others have too. It is my DD and use it for my side business. I like to be where I say I'm gonna be when I tell my customers I'll be there no excuses if a man doesn't have his word he ain't got nothing and since that's about all I got and this old truck just can't risk it. Would love to get that stroker in here for a little more pulling power!

you were on the side of the road with an internal engine failure?  I'm sure there's a story there. :brows:

There is it was old 87 xj and wore out pushing 300000 we can not control how PO treats our vehicles I'm sure I'm just like most on here who did not buy their trucks new sure a 4.0 is a great long lasting engine with proper maintenance or at least some maintenance but it is not invincible and when you get it with 150k to 200k to start with its hard to turn back the hands of time

2000 miles great oil pressure I still run the zinc additive and it's the 87 block with the high knickle content . Runs great . Doesn't leak a drop of anything . I even have another stroker with no miles sitting in the garage waiting for a project for it to go in
