New Truck

First off, sorry for the huge pictures. Had to upload them directly from my phone.

Happened across a '98 Grand Cherokee Limited at the dealership where my father works at. Been sitting off to the side waiting to be taken to the local sale along with a few other cars for a few weeks now, and curiosity got the better of me.

Decided to take a gander at it and asked my dad what was wrong with it. Found out that aside from one ding on the back (driver's taillight) and just a small amount of front end work (pinhole transmission cooler line leak, and a dry-rotted axle boot) that it was basically in perfect shape.

Not only that, but the 4x4 works like a charm, and this will be the first 4x4 I've ever owned as well. Runs and drives like a dream, and almost everything interior-wise works great.

$900 later, I can now say I own the second fastest production Jeep ever made.  Only has 150k miles on the ticker, and from what I read on the title, it's only had a whopping 3 thousand miles put on it in the last 12 years.

And yes, I still plan on keeping my Comanche. Just couldn't pass up on owning a cool piece of Jeep history.  :driving:

I had one of those. Fun to drive and a great exhaust sound! Was never a fan of the original Silver Star wheels so I put on a set of Icons from a '00 XJ

Some advice...... Check out www.thespeedfreaks.net It's a 5.9 Grand site with great tech threads.

If yours doesn't already have a rear main seal leak, put a new one in ASAP. The OEM one has a metal coil in it that will cut deep into the crank when the seal wears out..... A new seal.... Won't seal whith the nasty groove in it.

The intake manifold gaskets, electric radiator fan, sunroof and Tcase viscous coupler are all weak points so do some reading on those issues.

AFAIK, the truck has no engine leaks; but I haven't given it a super thorough examination yet. Thanks for the useful tips!

Those Icons are pretty sexy; do the Grands share the same rim dimensions with the XJ?

youve moved into the SUV catagory,

nice deal for 900! now you can build your truck to be a monster!

 The truck will definitely get a break now for sure, and it will give me a chance to get the interior work sorted out (floor pans, etc etc.)

Very cool Jeeps - I have owned 2 and regret selling both, but they mostly just sat around.  They have a lot of quirky electrical issues, but once you get past those they can be a very reliable DD.  I was getting 14/18 for fuel mileage, but my foot was always on the floor.  Wish I could have kept mine, but insurance costs were getting high on all of my automobiles so they were victims of my 2012 vehicle purge.

Woooo-weeee!

A 5.9L Limited. You are one lucky dog. Those are sweeeeeeet!

However, I hope you're prepared to feed it. One thing they are NOT famous for is fuel economy.

Believe me, I'm quite aware of their rather large appetites.  Fortunately for me, I plan on using the Grand only for the long trips on the road, or in the case of power is a must have. Thankfully the Comanche gets great mileage in town.

Spent a good 3 or so hours cleaning up the outside of the truck. I tell ya, I must have cleaned 15 years worth of grime and crud off of this truck. Just about every nook and cranny got a thorough cleaning. Only thing left is to clean up the interior and get it tagged and insured.  :brows: The spare tire in the back had a good bit of dust on it; I can't even fathom a guess as to the last time it was actually pulled out and used.
