fiatslug87 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 O. K., I was at the Pick 'n Pull last weekend and saw a 1988 Cherokee with a 173 ci carbureted V6, straight from the vac diagram sticker. I did not think the 2.8 L (I assume) used past '86 or '87, when was it discontinued? Thanks.
Minuit Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 The 2.8 was (officially) discontinued as soon as the 4.0 came online in 1987. Are you sure it was an 88? If it's an actual 88 with an actual 2.8, that's something really, really strange.
fiatslug87 Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 The emission/vac diagram on the firewall stated conforms to California emissions requirements for 1988 model year and the diagram stated 173 cubic inch engine and showed a carburetor. I should have snapped a pic of it and the VIN.
onlyinajeep726 Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 That is strange.... Go back and grab a pic of the diagram and the VIN! I want to know more. To be sure no one was stupid enough to swap in a 2.8L and all associated work into something that had the legendary 4.0L...
gogmorgo Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Was the sticker dirty? A 6 or a 5 can sometimes look a lot like an 8.
Eagle Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 There should have been no V-6s beyond the 1986 model year.
