Wood Panel Mj Sides

I remeber a tread a wile back where people were talking about wood paneling their MJ's sides like this wagoneer has it done. I think maybe Jim was talking about, I'm not a 100% sure. But I fould this waggy today in my grandpa's trailer park. And it has the wood paneling done like I think they were talking about. lol But anyways I couldnt find the thread again so I figured I would just post it here.

Yep. I swapped both doors and front fenders and grill. Found some sticky veneer paneling at the home Depot I think will be a close match for the bed and tail gate. Got side tracked so it's not finished yet.

Received some very nice photo shop pics from Correy awhile back. Somehow, somewhere they got misplaced and I just found them this AM in the testing,,1,,2 section. Would like to figure out how to post them here, in this thread.

I've done everything I could do to make my Jeeps NOT look like my Grandpa's Jeep, and I'm a Grandpa!!!

 

Just one opinion among the crowd...FUGLY.  If it's not supposed to be a real woody why would anyone put fake wood on it??

IIt's easier to work with. Can be bent around sharp curves easier. Won't catch fire. I have got a 4'X8' 3/32" sheet of veneer that I've been eyeballing. We'll see. :thumbsup:

• They make vinyle sticker in sheets that looks like wood. Same material they wrap all vehicles with these days. Its fade resistant, sticks right on, and peels right off when you decide (realize) it looks bad. ;)  Hell of a lot easier than veneer, and cheaper...and in a year or two will surely hold up better.

I like the wood sides and this thread got me thinking. With my beige truck some reddish-colored wood paneling such as below would look pretty alright (giant pic). Maybe some vinyl woodprint edging trim with faux carriage bolts could be used to finish it off.

Wood (sic) look better if it had a contrasting border around the panels, like this Ranchero. I used to like the vinyl roofs too.

The XJ Wagoneer pictured is very similar to the 1990 Wagoneer LTD I had.  I'm thinking of doing that paint scheme on my MJ when complete.

 

A buddie suggestes I go to a car graphics shop where they do car wraps and signage.  They might be able to make the wood panel vinyle cheaper than buying it for cars.

This way they could also just print on the trim/edging, emblems, whatever... 

 

I haven't checked it out yet but sounds like a possibility.  I'm thinking Deep/dark Blue with wood panels.

Yep, think that's the color.  Mine was a downsize 1990 XJ Wagoneer LTD (below) when I towed a CJ8 too Silver Lake MI. for four wheeling.

 

 

This is my first poor attempt at using photoeditor/paint to get an Idea of how it could look: 

 

 

What do you guys think of the Idea.  I'd go no cap in the summer, and a Black or same blue cap in the snowy months....

Honestly I think you might be able to pull it off you used that Wagoneer Baltic blue and two tone wood, like it is above

What do you guys think about brown with wood trim?  They did make FS Waggoneers in that combo.  I'm thinking maybe a deep Brown like AMC Chestnut Brown Metallic with light wood grain & trim graphics....

A brown or burgundy color. My mother would love to have a Grand Wagoneer in burgundy. As for the Cherokee and Comanche I never liked the wood trim on the Cherokee. It always seemed like an apology; "Sorry we had to discontinue the Grand Wagoneer, but we slapped some wood trim on a Cherokee!"

I am with you here.

Wood was originally used in coachwork because it had been traditionally used for making... coaches. Steel was just too expensive and hard to come by in quantity (until  industry ramped up to meet demand).

I've never been a fan of fake anything (wood on a car, non-structural columns in architecture, fake titties on a woman, you get the idea), and instead have always been of the "form follows function" school of thought. Just my opinion - they say there is no accounting for taste, so have at it. :)
