neohic
I've noticed around town that there's a near mint Dakota Sport convertible running around. Actually, he cut me off big time the other day and I almost took it out! Really been thinking about what it would be to do a nice convertible Comanche especially now after Dirteatr's ordeal. It would have to be with the right truck and I'll probably never do it, but it was just more of a "what if" kind of though. I don't even remember what site I found the first video on, but after a small taste I had to see them all! Really... I think I found more amusement out of listening to the guy who's working on the truck. I think he sounds like a Muppet or something. Just about every video has to start with a dopey sounding, "... okay!..." Like most on here, I hate seeing a nice MJ cut up, but... enjoy! Part 5: "... been working on it all week...thank God I go back to work tomorrow...", "Uh... went to the steel mill and bought some steel for a roll bar... built me a bumper instead...", "I got some new wheels off of... uh... Comanche out at the junk yard... had about five of 'em out there...", "Kinda sad... uh... some of 'em had some pretty nice bodies on 'em..." :shake: Execution?... eh... not so much. However, the idea behind it?... I kinda dig it.

Minuit
Definitely not in the case of someone cutting up a perfectly straight and untouched MJ cab. Now if it's been damaged like in Dirteatr's case, I think it would be perfectly justified and very cool.
rmoore1031
Isn't the roof an important part of the unibody? I wouldn't do it, I got a sunroof

Minuit
Yeah I certainly wouldn't want to stress that truck too badly lest it fold in half. I doubt the guy realized that, though considering his record.

dscowell
he mention he got his inspiration off of a Dakota I think he should have chopped up a Dakota instead. :fs1: not a fan
jimoshel
I would of swapped him a Dakota or a S10 straight across for his Comanche. He could chop all day then and I wouldn't mind. Although it does look good.
vaquaro
A few years ago , there was MJ Convertible in Langley B.C. The guy had done a convertion with a rollbar & 2 tops , one convertible extremely well done & the other a fiberglass copy of the original MJ original cab roof . Had it for sale , Haven't seen it since .

Exgrayxj
HAH!!! A friend and I bought THAT TRUCK a bout 3 years ago, to use for parts for a MJ he had, we used the more desireable parts from it and replaced them with the stuff on ours ... The tach dash and I think some interior stuff went into Georges truck , can't remember what all he used, I have the tailgate on my mj currently,. It was a running driving truck, we went to I think it was Port Orange ( south of Daytona) with a tow dolly, but I drove it the 60 or so miles home. 4.0, aw4, 2wd. Ran good, drove fine. Top had slide bolts to lock the top on, things were sort of crude, but it worked well, actually. After we got what we wanted it was sold to a neighbor of my buddy, who at the time was license-less, and took him quite a while to get his license back. Last I heard it was at a pawn shop in the Ocala/Homosassa area. AND< THERE IS A FRAME! It's just a welded sheet steel one, it is NOT a unibody, where the strength is in the rockers/body assembly. Remember where your trans crossmember attaches? This thing drove better than the mj I have now, of course with considerable more wind noise and rattles from the top. No floor mats or carpet, good floors tho. Since I heard where it is I have even considered buying it back, just for the novelty. I have a feeling the price would be higher than what we paid, I think we paid somewhere less than $500 for it, got our parts and sold it for about the same.
