87sparTruck Posted January 31, 2013 Posted January 31, 2013 I don't know if anyone has thought of this before but I just thought of a crazy idea for someone with a 2 door xj donor jeep. Why not turn that cargo bay into a cap. I don't know the exact dimensions of the 2 door xj's but maybe by combining it with another xj 2 or 4 door. Something kind of like the chermanche creations. After seeing some of the mods on here I'm sure someone with a little ingenuity could build one. Any thoughts?
MtnClimber Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Hmmm. I have 01 4 door XJ I'm parting out. I'm gona take some measurements tomorrow :crossfingers:
Tylerzap Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 Ohh that would be nice. Use a modified XJ hatch on the back too.
MJ_Milam Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 i always thought doing a 4 door comanche would be cool. cut the back of the cab from a comaanche and weld it to the back of an xj the do a back half to fit a comanche bed. not sure about dimensions but always something i thought about
86customanche Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 That would be very interesting. Almost making it a suburban type truck. i always thought doing a 4 door comanche would be cool. cut the back of the cab from a comaanche and weld it to the back of an xj the do a back half to fit a comanche bed. not sure about dimensions but always something i thought about Some people have done it. Look around on jeepforum, there are some builds. Some are done better than others.
ParadiseMJ Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 That would be very interesting. Almost making it a suburban type truck. ...thereby making the MJ not an MJ OR...At the risk of sounding sacriligious...you could get an ACTUAL Suburban. You can modify anything just for the sake of modifying it. Personally I like my little truck to remain as God and Jeep intended it in the overall design.
86customanche Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 ...thereby making the MJ not an MJ Yea true that. Trucks are trucks and should look like trucks IMO
87sparTruck Posted February 1, 2013 Author Posted February 1, 2013 Yes I agree trucks should look like trucks but if you wanted a bed cap and wanted to be different here one idea. But honestly for me I probably wouln't use it much if I made it. Having a roll bar is way better.
MiNi Beast Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 And that would be a heavy cap with a modified xj hatch on it.

JeepcoMJ Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 It doesn't fit. Tried it, I'll look for pics

neohic Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 ^ I remember seeing the pictures and I'm pretty sure I found the old thread. The links for the pictures are bad though. :redX:

jimoshel Posted February 14, 2013 Posted February 14, 2013 If you want to try something like that, then get a Blazer and S10, or a Ford Explorer, Ranger. But don't go hacking up a MJ.
