smithe1811 Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Anyone have one? I would like to make this happen on mine.
Pete M Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 there might be a write up somewhere, but it'll go something like this: -hold up the 97 lights in the MJ bed -fab all the mounts and fab fillers for the gaps -rewire to make the lights work properly

COFFMAN Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I,ll be watching this thead, me to are keen on the 97+ tail lights and would of like to have started experimenting with the fitment by now. But work seem to slow my buid down. Have seen to posted on here, a gray on with a chinese front. A white on posted not so long ago, the cap between the t/light and t/gate ( the filler piece of metal was not even ) and looked a bit out of place IMHO I,m sure the good fokes on CC will shed more light on this conversion. Go for it i,ll be watching
jpnjim Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I'm surprised no one has come up with a simple bolt on adapter to fit an easier to find tail light in there yet. Since it will be a long long time (never) before anyone remakes MJ taillights, adapting something readily available would seem like the next most likely solution. Personally I like everything about the 97+ taillights, except the funny angle at the top looks a little off when they're put in MJs.
jimoshel Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Cut the top off the ZJ. off. Cut the back half of the '97 ZJ and the MJ off. Weld , or pop rivet, the ZJ back half onto the MJ. Cuss yourself for not removing plastic TL lens before cutting and welding. Replace TL lens. Do careful work and you shouldn't need more than a 5 Gallon bucket of body mud to hide the seam and blend the body lines. :MJ 1:
mnkyboy Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 I built corner armor which gave me a blank slate to put in whatever lights I wanted.
jpnjim Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 ^^this except I want round lights mounted towards the top, like 1960's J-trucks.
HOrnbrod Posted January 13, 2013 Posted January 13, 2013 Early GM S10 / S15 tails are nearly the same size and style as the MJ tails.
COFFMAN Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 I to do like the look of a nice rolled panel in the original tail light hole, with the universal lights in the rubber grommit. Gives that International Scout look which is pretty cool. My biggest problem is what ever way i go it has to be right first time, NOoooo spare beds in the local JY in my neck of the woods :(
smithe1811 Posted January 17, 2013 Author Posted January 17, 2013 Yeah, my main concern is the wiring, i know i have seen a couple on here a long time ago, i just can't seem to find them now.
jimoshel Posted January 17, 2013 Posted January 17, 2013 If every hoarder of MJ tail lights would all dump them on the market at the same time, You couldn't get $5 apiece for one.
