Some of the guys say that a ZJ steering set up will work and then you can you there TRE just a thought. That way you end up with a bigger better set up or you could upgrade to something like Rock Kawler set up. My plan is running the ZJ set up until I get the money for the Rock Kawler set.

I just put a ZJ tie rod on my MJ this weekend. FWIW, the drag link is the same as the XJ/MJ one, it's just the TR that's larger. Here's a couple pics:

Yes

most of the OTK kits use a larger tie rod.

You'll have to drill and ream the knuckle.

Honestly, if I was going through all of that trouble I'd got OTK, with a RHD ZJ draglink, and a ZJ solid tie rod, or one made out of dom.

As it is now, the stock sized TRE is probably stronger than the stock tie rod.

ok, so the tie rod of a ZJ is bigger than the MJ, but what about the TRE's? will our TRE's thread into the ZJ tie rod? or do you have to use the ZJ TRE's? will the ZJ TRE's fit into the holes where the MJ TRE's fit (do you have to ream the holes to fit ZJ TRE's?)

Has anyone ever sleeved the stock tie rod to reinforce it. My dad said that they used to do this on their baja bugs and dune buggies and then use a ford 3/4 ton tre. He thinks that we could probably do something similar for the MJ.

I am going with 1.5" .25 dom for my tie rod but it sure does look like the bigger tie rod ends are going to hit the tires..3 5/8 bs on my wheels. I will post some pics of the ongoing project this weekend. Biggest PITA so far was removing the knuckles and rotating.

I know of a guy that looked at doing the sleeve idea with a Yj but the prob is finding the right tubing with the right Inside diameter so it fit snugly on the stock set up. He finnally back out and is fabbing one up. I am going to Build one from scrtch and go OTK for a high steer kinda approach. You can buy these inserts that all you do is drill a regular hole and then slap the insert in it and its ready to go. I don't know how much i would trust them but they seemed like they would work well.
