30" Tires On Stock Height?

so I was at a tire store last night looking at tires to put on and get ride of these tiny arse 200/55/r15's. I want to run 30/9.5/15's but was wondering if I will have any clearance issues and how I can solve them.

 

also, firestone destination a/t or m/t? I am used to driving a humvee with m/t wheels so noise doesnt bother me. unless you have a better or equal tire for equal or less the cost.

I have no issues and thats what I run I do have WJ lower control arms I put them on before the tires so I can't say you have to have them.

No fitment problems other than rubbing the lower control arms when you steer to sharp. WJ lower control arms will help, but might still not completely eliminate it.

 

If you don't go off road I would stick with the ATs. MT tires wear a lot faster (like 20,000 miles to bald) and most of them suck in snow or rain.

the sucking in the snow/rain is what the salesman told me, just wanted to verify what he was saying. I'm assuming wj lower control arms are cheap to obtain and bolt directly onto the mj?

You will have to cut the steel sleeves flush with the rubber bushing to make them fit. Takes a few minutes with an angle grinder and a cutting disc.

The WJ arms do require the bushings to be ground down. People have done it with just an angle grinder.

 

 

Another option would be a set of wheels with a smaller backset, or getting some bolt on style wheel spacers. It would make your tires stick out of your wheel wells a bit.

I run 31's on stock suspension. See sig pic.

Only rubbing is on the lower arms at full lock. I would think 30's would fit like a glove.

My 29" tires (235/75R15) just barely rubbed (but still rubbed) when they were new. A few thousand miles (and a few sixteenths of tread) later they don't anymore.

I paid around $40.00 for the pair used some one on here that used to sell allot of parts a few years back. I just used a angle grinder to make mine fit. I had bookmarked a how to but it got lost with the change to the new club.

They do just fine ,but i'm carefull. Tire spin is much easier in the wet ya know!

I put Geolander 30s on mine with no issues. I did change out the lower control arms out with WJ lower control arms in preparation to installing larger tires.

30" bfgs on aluminum Jeep rims under a 2wd with stock arms. never had any rubbing.

 

 

mods needed to the WJ arms. you can trim it any way you want, just make sure the rubber doesn't get too hot.

My 235/75/15s rub only when steering sharp in reverse. 88 4x4 with 24 years of settling suspension and over 205k.

my suspension is probably pretty settled also, 281k yesterday. I can't wait to get these tires. then my speedo will be slow instead of fast :yes:

 

thanks for all the input. how good does the 2.5 power these tires? I'm assuming just fine, but I want to be safe

I feel somewhat stupid now. after talking to my tire guys he alerted me that 30/9.5 are not even 1/2" bigger than 235/75's. pretty lame, I think I'm gonna go 31/10.5's now.

 

edit: or I just look at different tires. the hankook dynapro AT measures 30.9/9.4 actual compared to the firestone/bridgestones that measure 28.9 actual for a 235/75r15. I think I found my tire.

28.9 is the theoretical correct size for a 235/75R15. There is NO way that size tire is ever going to be 30.9" tall.

 

Actually, I just looked it up and that Hankook is a 235/75R17. It is 2" taller because it goes on a 2" taller rim. They don't make that tire in any other size than that.
