92tanMJ
Hey guys I'm looking for a MJ, It just is becoming more and more practical for everyday life. Well anyways I currently have a 98 cherokee and I am looking for Mj advice because I don't know many issues about them, major problems to look for when buying ect. but here is the one I am looking at, I wanted a manual 4x4 I6 and this one has them all. Ive emailed the guy and he said he would go down to 1.6K with out the tires. He has sent me picture of the underbody and it is basically rust free just pitting. It looks like someone undercoated it before him, and the floor pans have already been replaced. Also I didnt think they had them in 92 I thought 91 was the last model year but who know..well one of you guys do. I don't. haha http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/cto/3439724615.html Oh and here's my Xj Ive done all of the work myself and it didnt run and was competely stock and unmolested when I got so needless to say I'm not scared of a little project anymore. haha So I would just love some advice from ya guys, and if any of you are cherokeeforum I'm Zacks98. Thanks guys
MJRemi
92 is the last year and most desirable, however, condition is still important. That truck has high mileage and rust cancer along the rockers and wheel wells. The fresh under-carriage coating could be covering up some serious rust.I would keep looking but if you really want the truck, stick to the $1600 range WITH the wheels on or take off a couple hundred if he keeps the wheels. Repairing rotten body panels is not cheap nor easy.
Alexia
$1,600 for that rust bucket even WITH the wheels? No way.
xjrev10
$1,600 for that rust bucket even WITH the wheels? No way. Offer 1000. Look for frame rot near the rear spring hangers and X frame. If there is ANY, use it to your full advantage. To get a better deal. If not walk away; there are others out there.
86customanche
1600 is too much for the condition of that one. I bought my 92 for only 1000 and the rockers are less rusted, have basically no bed rust, and a little floorpan rust that I fixed already. Id keep looking. Price changes depending on location, northern trucks should be cheaper because of the rust problems.
92tanMJ
Well then I guess its time to keep looking, haha or to try and talk him down to half of that. Any of you guys do the 2wd to 4wd swap? if so honestly on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard is it? Like changing your oil is 1 and an engine rebiuld is 10. lol cause hard for me could be easy for some of you. haha

Preferably a floor jack and a bottle jack for axle positioning. Installing the 4WD shifter - 2. Lots of interior to disassemble and pieces to keep track of. Swapping the transmission - 5. Technically this is really easy. However, if you do not have the jacks or muscle to get it into place paying a shop to do is usually cost effective. ftpiercecracker1
$1000 without tires/wheels whichever, $1300 with. If you do get it, i wouldnt even bother with doing body work. As said before it gets extremely expensive extremely fast. Make sure the driveability is sound and drive that sucker. Also, ask if the a/c and heat work.
