anyone ever swap a 4bt cummins or 6bt cummins into a comanche? How hard is it when it comes to matching up the transmission?

wiring? I've seen newer wranglers with 4bt's but never a comanche

Bunch of guys swap them in to Cherokee's, which is essentially the same exact thing since the front ends are the same. I'd stay away from the 6bt as that engine is heavy as all hell and will be a very tight fit. The 4bt puts out plenty of power for the weight of a Comanche. From what I remember, 4bt's don't weigh that much more than a 4.0L while 6bt's weigh in at nearly twice.

Don't know if it was that one or not, but I've seen a yellow Comanche with a 4BT at Jeepskool/Southington Offroad on a couple of occasions. Last time I saw him there he had cut a hole in his hood to fit a second turbo for a twin turbo setup.

If a twin turbo 4BT can't fit under the hood, I really doubt a 6BT will fitwith or without turbos.

4BT weight is 750 to 785 lbs. See this link for more info: http://www.cumminsdieselspecs.com/4bt.html

Hundreds of pounds more the the 4.0 six. Want a diesel? Find a 2004-5 2.0 VW: 134 hp and 247 ft/lbs factory stock. Chip and turbo upgrade for 40-50% more hp and Tq. Also way lighter than the 4.0 six. Likely also a whole lot less expensive than the 4BT

Even the 90 hp 1.9 ltr VW TDI can be built for over 200 hp and 340 ft. lbs. Tq. (Would be my choice when my 4.0 dies. But, the 4.0 will probably still be running when I die).

Really want something different? Find a 2005 VW V10 Toureg: 310 hp 553 Ft.Lbs TQ with factory 4 x 4 and 6 speed auto transmission. And if the stock 553 ft.lbs. Tq is not enough for you, it can be chip tuned for even more!!!

Any links to build threads on these? I'd like to see them.

You can swap those Vw diesels but nothing beat the industrial 4bt when it comes to ease of installed and countless options for auxiliary add ons to the belt system or even in the gear drive from the front cover

You can't fit a 6BT under the hood of a FSJ truck or Cherokee without major cutting so there is no way you will put one in a Comanche. That and the crack of the unibody as soon as you rest that hunk in there...

If you want industrial I'd look into the Isuzu motor the 4bd1t. They put more time and effort into NVH and I've heard claims of it being 3 inches shorter than the 4bt. and the power output is nearly identical.
