Southpaw26
Like the title says bought a 2000 XJ today. My plan is to swap all the front end sheet metal, doors, center console with floor shift, and carpet. Is there anything I need to know before going into this swap? I do not plan to swap in the engine or dash. Only exterior cosmetics, center console, carpet, and oh yes the windshield.
ftpiercecracker1
Oh, my bad  , every time i hear about someone doing a 97 swap all i can think about is how much firewall manipulation is needed. BUT for the doors the only thing that is different is the door strikes, these will have to be modified. can't say much about the rest.
Southpaw26
I am hoping everything else is all good. I wonder if the grab hanldes from the XJ will work in the MJ. Also hoping the capret and console will.
87Warrior
Carpet will fit 'funny' because it is formed for the XJ that has cross seat braces and a flat floor. Your Comanche has no seat braces and an additional frame brace. That said, the carpet will fit in the MJ cab and will look fine.
Southpaw26
Ok so will the carpet not look right. Not trying to do all that and it look incorrect.
SnowManche
should look OK, just post tons of pictures to convince us all this is a project we want to tackle
cruiser54
What about the later doors inner panels hitting the early dash? Is that an issue?

A few brackets get cut off and a few new ones get welded on, a few holes get drilled and some slight trimming around the Steering column otherwise it is fairly simple... Eagle
I'm seriously considering the same upgrade for an '88 MJ 4-banger I have sitting in the yard. Just need to decide how much I value my marriage ...

Southpaw26
Let us know when you find out your doors won't close. LOL. I have seen people do it on here. Did not see them saying it was a problem. Can someone chime in that knows.
87Warrior
Let us know when you find out your doors won't close. LOL. The doors will close. The issue is that the glovebox door won't open all the way.

87Warrior
What does it hit on? Power window switch molding. I don't believe manual window doors would be a problem. Awhile back this exact topic came up and there was even a pictorial example of the interference.
cruiser54
Good to know. It would be a gear to find out later that something wouldn't work or fit. Glovebox is workable.
Southpaw26
I guess the glove box not opening is not a huge concern.

Southpaw26
New front end is now on. The swap was pretty much a breeze. I took the old front end back off the Comanche and put it on the 2000 XJ. Since the XJ is a running driving 4x4 XJ. Doors I have not tackled yet. Still trying to decide on what I want to do. My preference would me a set of non power doors. But I just don't ever see any 1997 and up XJ's without out power doors.
Southpaw26
Found a set of non power 1997+ doors today. Had to pay up for them as I just could not find any of them anywhere. Will get those put on this weekend. Moving right along on this project, hope to not run into any speedbumps.
