airspeed
It was a beautiful day so I thought I would take my Jetta "Silver Bullet" for a change of pace. Moved the Comanche out on the street to get the Jetta our of the garage, you guessed it. She heard the doorbell ring about 9:30am, some guy standing there saying he was sorry. He was trying to hand his little girl something in the back seat. I don't know how bad it was hit, my wife says the bumper is bent up. He lives right around the corner, left his name and number. Now I have to go through the rest of the day with that on my mind... How bad has it really been hit? Just the bumper or is there body damage? I had just found and installed a factory Drawtite receiver hitch. To top it off I have a late meeting 4:00pm that I really don't won't go to, but I have to be there. The bright side, no one was hurt, just twisted metal.
Pete M
that sucks. at least he manned up and said something. a hit-n-run in front of my house left my van with a tweaked door and a window that won't roll all the way down. :fs1: Takes very very little to bend an MJ's bumpers, so i'm guessing there's some slight body damage. :( but here's hopin' there's not.
86customanche
Thats awful news. On the bright side, he left his information and seems very sorry for doing it. Hopefully you can work something out with him for repairs and it's not too much.

Pete M
There are plenty of vans in the junkyards. I've got no good excuse. :thwak: by the way, 218k miles so far and the transmission works fantastic. the rest of the van however is succumbing to a life lived in michigan. That's probably why I haven't swapped the door yet. it's akin to polishing a turd. :(
skidoo_j
So how bad was it?
airspeed
Not bad at all. Just bent the outside 6" of the bumper a little bit, scuffed up the plastic endcap. There was one small depression in the box under the bumper endcap that will probably push out form the back. The factory receiver hitch really stiffens up the bumper. I almost felt sorry for the guy, his Taurus was mangled from the front wheel well to the rear wheel well. The doors on the right side of his car wouldn't open. 88MJXLS
There's something to be said for how sturdy MJ's are in accidents, my sister backed into my front bumper and mangled the back of her Stratus, I just had to re-paint the bumper, lol. Glad to hear there was minimal damage to your Jeep!
