jeepaholic
When I truss my front axle i was thinking of sleevin the axle tube also. Has anybody done this? Only problem may be finding a pc of pipe or tube that fits tight enough. I already have all the brackets cut off the axle as well as removed the steering knuckles.(rotatin the knuckles to get proper geometry w/out using cv shafts). 87manche
are you planning on milling the knuckles to fit over the sleeve or just but them up against the sleeve and weld it all together?
jeepaholic
butem and weldem..then gusset them top and bottom with tubing. ;)
pingpong
Why are you going to sleeve and trus your axle? :hmm: Seems like you will be adding lots of weight. Just my opinion though

86FUBAR
on pirate4x4 in the tech section theres a build up of a 30 and the guy sleeved it and put cj Cs on it, seemed like a good thing but the retard did it to a C.A.D. d30 . he put in alot of work on this thing and it came out good but why to a cad?
DirtyComanche
Run a sold shaft through a CAD axle and you get a hella strong UCA mount. Buuuuuuuut... PITA to weld that hting up right.
86FUBAR
remember its cast steel , it will crack/break there is no give, a mild steel uca mount will at least bend like crazy befor it breaks
Eagle
remember its cast steel , it will crack/break there is no give, a mild steel uca mount will at least bend like crazy befor it breaks Is it cast, or is it forged? (I'm asking ... I don't know. If it's forged, it's gonna be a helluva lot stronger than that stamped POS on the non-disconnect axles)

jeepthing07
the CAD axle's UCA mount won't break i would rather have a CAD axle than a non CAD

feerocknok
Nothing lasts forever... I'm impressed! Is this a Jeep of yours, Pete? Turns out mine is bent so the center is down 3/8", so I'm axle shopping.
Pete M
Nope. Just some random Jeep on the internet. My wheeler has a 44 up front. :D
pingpong
I bent a front VD axle at Tellico a few yrs ago. They are strong, but anywhere there is a joint there is a stress riser in my opinion. When I swapped over to the non disco housing, I trussed the passenger side arm on the front and on both sides. Had no issues. Before I did that though, I ran another weld bead inside the mount, and along the outside. I also rewelded all the lca's mounts, and the coil bucket mounts, seems Dana or Jeep, or whoever did the weld work was not overly concerned with penetrating welds, or complete metal fusion when they performed the job
