Yay or Nay Questions?

Recommended Posts

Just wanted other opinions on these. I have my own thoughts on them, but I like hearing what others have to say. :brows:

1. Grabbing an extra MJ E. Brake Cable from an MJ in the local P&P?

2. Grabbing sun visors, tailights, headboard from same MJ

3. Taking the passenger front quarter panel to replace my own from same P&P MJ? (replacement is red / not rusty whereas mine is rusty and severely dented )

4. Pros/Cons or Opinions on Steel Rims vs. Aluminum rims on an MJ? (both would be from either XJ's or MJ's as I've seen both on local P&P vehicles)

5. Any other useful things I should be on the lookout for from either vehicle type that should be on anyone's junkyard run list?

I've always thought that steel rims looked bad. The stock ones any ways. I also think they are way to heavy. The other stuff I would say grab if you can. You never know what may come up. But make sure that where your there, to grab any thing that was only on an MJ, and the vin #.

Take anything that's not rusted beyond recognition or welded solidly to the unibody.

Steel wheels are able to take more punishment off-road, but they weigh more. I used to run steel by choice, but with a bad back I'm finding the weight a severe drawback, so I'm putting everything on alloys now.

Seems there's also the occasional request for fuel tank J-bolts, for rear speaker frames, for

cargo lights (first thing I look for), for good tailgates, etc. I always check the rear axle in

the unlikely event (haven't found one yet) there's a Dana 44. Rear window gaskets are

popular pull items. Now, the other side of the coin, you can only store so much stuff before

the garage spills over. Now I'm looking mostly just for upgrade parts. Headliners? I've

passed up several because they're just too fragile to mess with.

Yup, pretty much summed up my thoughts with everyone's opinions. Flint also brings up another valid point.... I never checked this truck to see if there was a 44 underneath it.

I should probably bring a shopping cart with me this Saturday when I go. There's so many things waiting to be grabbed off that truck... :wrench:

Were you really expecting anyone to tell you nay? :rotf:

Haha, not really. I just figured I was missing more important things I should be checking on other than what I posted. Glad to know I was in the ballpark with my "To Check" list.

Any update? Did ya pull that headliner? I'm currently looking for one, and a latch for the rear slider window,

Somebody snagged the headliner I was going to pull somehow. Guess I'm not the only MJ'er in town.... But I'm headed off to bigger ponds today so If I find one in good shape, I'll snag it for ya.

NEVER ..... EVER ..... PASS UP A FACTORY MADE MJ RECEIVER HITCH OR A STRAIGHT REAR BUMPER.

Yeah, finding a straight rear bumper, or ESPECIALLY a factory receiver hitch would be like winning the lottery. :rotf:

Actually, don't worry about that headliner, it is way too fragile to ship anyhow, and I think I am going to order an SMS headliner..

What's so cool about a factory receiver hitch? I've got a receiver hitch on mine I'm pretty sure is factory..

Yeah, what he said. But more like damn near impossible to find. Consider yourself fortunate to have one.
