Sega Game Case

Decided to go to an indoor flea market with some money in my pocket. Seeing as my Jeep doesn't need anything for it right now (surprisingly... ) and it needs something to do to justify me keeping it, I looked around a bit and found this. So $60 less and 10 minutes of driving home later....

A 1991 SEGA video game display case in rather good shape  When I'm not wrenching on cars, I'm out looking for classic video game stuff. I've got such a big collection it's not even funny, so I figured this would compliment my collection quite nicely. Seeing as I have some spare MJ Badges, I'll probably also use it to display those as well. ;)

Closeup of the logo. How nice... Shame Nintendo ran them into the ground.

Shot of the doors. They have the Sega logo etched into the glass and the logo is still in pristine shape. Goes to show you how nothing made nowadays can compare to the old days (our MJ's for instance)

Will update this when new progress is made. For now I have to go out and do some wrenching. :wrench:

So lets see the collection, I'm a fan of old school video games. How bout the 3DO from Panasonic?

Ask and thou shall receive. As far as the 3DO goes, that's one that's eluded my grasp. We all have to start somewhere, and we can't jump to the top tier of gaming goodness when you're a rookie. ;) :rotf:

So with that being said, here's the first installation of many showcasing my video game goodness.

-------------

Up first (was) a mint condition NES Sports Set back from 92 I believe (- a few wires and controllers because they're stored elsewhere) I got this by sheer luck, as a friend of my dad was going to throw away this whole package in the dumpster! :fs1: :( Luckily, my dad talked him out of it and brought it home to me and my sister back in 08'. Talk about luck!

Now I'm playing with power. Mint condition posters that still have that factory poster smell on them. :ack:

Back before you kids and you're fancy Wii's, we had to sit 3 feet away from this thing to be able to have "multiplayer" :shake:

And the games for the NES I currently have :

Zelda II, Super Mario/Duckhunt, Castlevania, Megaman 3, StarTropics 2, Castlevania 2, Blaster Master, Megaman 2, Zelda I, Bucky O'Hare, Battletoads, and Final Fantasy

Not too shabby for the NES in my opinion.

Back with another installation.

Moving on up the line, an SNES. My sister got it for doing well in school back in 95, but she pretty much passed it to me after a few years and I've had it ever since. This has to my my all time favorite system, in terms of great games, but also a lot of personal memories tied into it.

And the games, from top to bottom

Jurassic Park, Super Mario World, Earthworm Jim 2, Super Castlevania IV, Jeopardy, Might Morphin' Power Rangers, Kirby SuperStar Saga, Mario Paint, Megaman X, WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game, Jurassic Park 2, Starfox, Monopoly, Secret Of Evermore, Harvest Moon (both in near mint condition with original manuals and posters)

Side stuff is a SNES Game Genie, and a Paint Mouse. Not pictured is Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars due to having misplaced it.... :hmm:

-----------

I should also note that about 10 years ago, I owned over 80 different SNES games. No doubles, mind you. But like all stupid kids, I sold them for $ to buy something else. If only I had a time machine.... :thwak: :thwak: :thwak:

I think I had every NES game you showed there. Battletoads was unnecessarily difficult. The turbo button on the joystick controller was a nice feature.

Make sure you pick up for your NES collection:

Mega Man 1

Faxanadu

City Connection

Super Tecmo Bowl

Guardian Legend

A few years back my buddy got an old Atari system with a ton of games from another friend who was gonna throw it away. It had a few of the adaptor pieces with it too, don't remember what they were for.

My favorite NES games were: Ice hockey, castlevania, megaman, and metroid

Yup. Got those on my list of games I should pick up. Wish I could find a copy of River City Ransom though. That game was fun playing with a few friends back in the day. Sadly, never made it past the Ice Level (4?) on Battletoads, but then again, who has?

I hope you guys know about this site, but if not, enjoy.

http://www.coolrom.com has much, much more.

Ha, I used to go to that site all the time when I was retro gaming on my pc. Fun stuff there.

Thank you! My brother and I used to play it all the friggin time. We never got past the part where you're falling down the giant hole. We always ended up accidentally killing one another. I still have a working NES, and a working copy of Battletoads. I should fire it up again...

And don't forget Earthbound... If, by some stroke of unnatural luck, you manage to find it for a decent price.

:agree:

Anyway, getting back to the thread.... 8) Did some rust removal of the top panel housing the display light. It was pretty grimy with minimal surface rust. About 1/4 way done here.

One thing I did learn though, when doing /any/ rust removal, the coarser the sandpaper, the faster things get done. This is also very true if you're trying to do rust removal before a huge thunderstorm....

Moral of the story. When in doubt, go with something coarser than 100 grit, which is what I plan on getting tomorrow. :shake:

Fully finished top panel. A bit dark due to lighting and crappy cell-phone camera.

Plans for tomorrow:

1. Go get coarser sandpaper.

2. Get rest of original "Gun Metal" paint scheme off of the entire thing.

3. Prime it all with 2 coats.

4. Figure out new paint scheme....

Since I'm doing this as a combined Comanche/Sega showcase thing, I'm not entirely sure what color I should paint this case, or what designs I should go with. I was a serious time artist for 4 years in high school, so this kind of stuff comes pretty naturally to me, so that won't be a problem. Anyone got any ideas of what colors I should do? I'm partial to the Comanche Chief type of design.... :chillin:

Wow, can't believe it's almost been a year since I last posted on this thread. This thing has basically sat in my living room for almost a year now with no developments. Finally decided to do something with it.

Decided on painting it "Sega Blue", with white highlights on the front and sides. Here's after one coat of paint.

It's also hard to believe that I haven't cleaned the glass on this. Didn't even bother with it when I brought the thing home. Can't really tell the difference, but the right door is clean, left is still dirty as @#$%.

:chillin: Used some GM glass cleaner spray I had laying around. Pics don't do the glass any justice.

I swear, if it isn't the intense heat, it's the rain. :ack:

Lugged this thing outside and was able to sand down the backside. Threw a coat of Rust-Reformer to get what I couldn't sand down all the way. I'll probably end up doing this to the entire case.

Decided to lay down a coat on the inside; where the light-display housing is.

Decided to pick up a few Sonic decals to put on first. Should look pretty good when it's all together ;) :brows: Now only if the weather would co-operate with me for one day.... I would have probably gotten the whole thing sanded down.

  • 2 weeks later...

Thought I had a few pictures of these floating around on this thread, but I guess not. Some very not-so-recent finds from earlier this year.

Legend of Zelda / Super Mario Bros. thermos from '89. Doesn't look like it's been used or even cleaned for that matter since it was shipped out. Some kid won it in a Nintendo Power giveaway to promote both of the games, or probably Nintendo in general. They don't make 'em like they used to. :chillin: I was lucky to find it when I did. So I collect a lot of VG stuff; what can I say? whaat.gif

Other than a few specs on it, the thermos is in relatively pristine shape, not bad for a $20 snag. I got this along with it. Matching lunchbox.

Upon closer inspection... :D

Maybe one day I'll post some more pictures of all my other VG-related swag... Maybe. :brows:

Finally got the backside primed and painted. Color seems to be a bit off in the picture. It's just a tad darker IRL; but it's close enough. Depending on how the weather plays out in the next hour or so determines whether I put a 3rd coat on today. I have an erratic schedule with work this week, so I'm not going to be doing anything with it again until the weekend. :ack:

Also, this gun attachment is awesome. Makes it easier to get a better spray than using the old arm method.

Just cleaning up a front license plate I picked off an '85 Z28 the other day. One of the only 2 generations of Camaros I like (1st / 3rd)

Should look pretty good on here. :brows:

Finally some progress on this thing. About darn time :thwak:

Took it outside today and sanded down the other sides.

Coated the front and sides in Rust Reformer to get rid of what little rust was there to begin with. Now I just have to wait a few days for it to cure before I move it back outside for paint. Feels good to almost be done with this thing.

NOTES TO SELF

Things to look into after paintwork is done (to add to collection / possibly display on or around case)

- - - -

Nifty Posters

Castlevania III - http://www.ebay.com/...=item4abe5ce5fa

Super Mario RPG (Look @ Gamecaseworld's store, more good posters to be had here) - http://www.ebay.com/...=item4abf276192

Look for Sega related posters; possibly some Sonic or Streets of Rage ones. Also, would be wise to get a copy of Streets of Rage; game is hella-awesome.

Swanky Magnets

Castlevania Bloodlines - http://www.ebay.com/...=item3f0d1a444a
