jpdriver1
Chrysler suspends workers caught drinking on TV DETROIT (AP) — Chrysler Group LLC said Tuesday it has suspended nine workers without pay after a Detroit television station aired footage of them allegedly drinking and smoking marijuana before their shifts at an area plant. WJBK-TV aired the story about the workers at the Trenton Engine Plant last week. The station said it was tipped off by other workers at the plant. The plant employs around 500 people who make V-6 engines for the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Grand Caravan and other vehicles. Chrysler said it identified the workers using the station's video. All nine have been suspended without pay while the company investigates and determines what action should be taken. This is the second time in a year that the station has reported on Chrysler workers drinking and smoking before a shift. Last fall, the company fired two workers and gave two others unpaid, one-month layoffs after the station took video of them drinking beer before the start of their shift at a Detroit assembly plant. http://news.yahoo.com/chrysler-suspends ... 30619.html
jimoshel
Well that explains why the crankshaft in my engine was in backwards. Had a heck of a time trying to install the serpentine belt over the flywheel.

HOrnbrod
I'd probably ram a couple and smoke a joint too if I had to live and work in Detroit. :ack:

But that doesn't excuse the stupidity of doing it in public or in front of a camera.
AMCJeepMJ
Is this a repeat from last September? http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/dpp/news/chrysler-auto-workers-busted_20100923_dk

HOrnbrod
I'd probably ram a couple and smoke a joint too if I had to live and work in Detroit. :ack: EDIT: And not be super stupid enough to be caught on camera. They for sure had been doing it for years and got careless. Not an uncommon occurrence in the workplace.
SW86
just think of how many "higher ups" toke up and drink on the job too. sure they're smart enough NOT to do it in public but hey as long as they are doing their jobs, who gives a @#$%

Blue XJ
Its funny that they target just the Chrysler plants. EVERY union plant I have been in has had this going on, not just automotive ones. The plant we have at our building has it too, there are 4 or 5 that get drunk all the time, then hop in company vehicles and bulldozers and start driving them around. We had a hull fall off of a trailer before and it broke through the 12" thick concrete floor and took out a ceiling support ~10" I Beam. Nobody does anything, you can't win against the UAW. Pete M
far as I know, the news station got a tip that some of the guys at the plant were doing it again. they weren't picking on Chrysler, just checkin' out a tip that panned out. maybe it's just that their parking lot is out in the open. :dunno: also, the trenton plant is further from the city of Detroit than me. it's comfortably in the 'burbs. but all of michigan sucks for jobs. Who give a @#$%? Hell, if I'm going to buy Chrysler, do I want my $40K vehicle assembled by a bunch of doped up clowns? your missing the point completely. its now said that over half (maybe even a third) of the US population smoke weed and growing. it doesnt effect you like beer and if you ever smoked, you know you can still do your job just fine. espcially one thats the same @#$%ing thing day in and day out. so you think the few people they caught doing that are the only ones. no, they were just the dumb ones that went to a public place on a daily basis. I'm sure at other car companies the same thing is happening. they just know how to get away with it and lets face it, detroit isnt the best place in the world. surprised there isnt more going on then just beer and weed. thats when id worry, when a tweeker who's been up for days makes my car. and yes I'm sure whomever you listed could smoke. you don't know them personally. they might take lunch break and go get high, then use eye drops. so many high up/low level people i know, do. hell weed is becoming legal anyway. so id like to hear your arguement again in a year or so :chillin: if you or anyone else has a problem with it, tell me this. what happened to all the drug tests they are supposed to be given? what, they do it, ONCE when you get the job or IF you get hurt ON the job. wow. if it was such an issue, companies would dish out the dollars to clean up but no one cares because the work still gets done on time and correctly! i will say though getting, pretty much drunk, on the job isnt cool. thats when issues can come about more so then if you were high. That varies from person to person and is an awful blanket statement to use in any of your arguments. Marijuana effects my senses and abilities in such a way that I would be utterly and completely useless on any job. I can put back a few beers and be buzzed (not drunk) and perform my job flawlessly. It all depends on the person. However, that doesn't make either scenario right. Save this BS for the weekends or after work. I don't understand the need for people to constantly smoke up and get high and/or get drunk. Are those people's lives really that mundane where they need to use a substance to keep things interesting? Get a hobby.

Get a hobby. thats true and i didnt think about that. ive got friends that can't do $#!& when they smoke but when i used to, i could do anything just as if i was sober. so yes it does depend on the person but those guys look like they've been at it awhile so I'm sure they can handle it. and i also agree with your second statement. however not everybody does it constantly. i don't drink, so id smoke a little every now and again to "relax" but people who depend on drinking/smoking really should get a new hobby and save it for the weekend/after work
