I bought one last winter. 1994 6 cyl. We knew it had a bad trans when we bought it (42RE). The transmission eventually blew up, but we were able to make it home and ended that trip doing 12 mph max in first gear for the last 10 miles or so.

While we had it we enjoyed it. I wish the trans would have been good from the get go. It was a nice Jeep to drive and it did great in the snow. I liked all of the creature comforts it offered and the seats were darn comfy.

ZJ is right. My fist Jeep was my 96 ZJ. It is the most comfortable vehicle I've ever owned! It's got 195,xxx miles on it, and still runs like a top! (4.0 of course!) If it is a full time 4x4, (NP249), first thing I would do is swap in a 231, or 242. That way, you can run it in 2wd, and save on gas. (Or get bad mileage, but have more fun doing it!) Congrats! They are great trucks!

Said it once, say it again. I love my ZJ. :D

At times I wish it was a 5.9L, since its a '98, but at times I am glad its not. With gas prices being what they are, I'm glad I have the 4.0L. My average mixed MPG is about 19.4 right now, with the front drive shaft out, and somewhat sensible driving.

Doesn't stop me from pining over a 'niner when I see one for sale though.

Go big or go home!

The Niner's are fun. Extremely fun, especially with a 242 transfer case installed an the ability to spin the rear tires on the pavement. However, it doesn't sip gas - it chugs it! Best I've done with mine is 17MPG all highway driving keeping it around 70-75MPH. Although I've enjoyed my time with the the ZJ, I won't be holding onto it much longer. It gets driven the least of my insured vehicles and I can't seem to justify keeping it around. I would rather someone else enjoyed this beast!

The Orvis edition ZJs are pretty neat and I've always been drawn to them, but mainly only the '96 and '97 models that got the newer snowflake rims. I personally think those look much better than what came on the '95's. In fact, I believe that the '96 and '97 Orvis edition ZJs are rarer than the '98 ZJ 5.9L Limited.

Edit: According to the Wikipedia site (which may be inaccurate), even the 1995 Orvis edition is rarer than the 5.9L Limited :D

In my younger days I preferred a basic vehicle, Standard trans, No AC or pwr strg, To a luxuriate one. In my old age I have learned to appreciate luxury. A '93 and a '94 ZJ fully equipped helped change my outlook. For the last couple months I have had a RUST FREE '88 Sport and a RUST FREE '98 ZJ sitting side by side contemplating a complete swap of all the goodies. A '88 RUST FREE MJ with A/C, pwr windows, pwr seats, pwr strng, factory stereo and overhead console sounds intriguing. We'll see. comanche.gif

I just had some guy contact me about trading my '88 Comanche for his '94 ZJ 5.2 Limited... Hopefully it isn't too good to be true...

I would NEVER traid my MJ for anything  although that thing is really starting to piss me off... well the track bar anyway.

well people suck :headpop: !!! the orvis jeep was misrepresented....... seats were more than trashed sunrood didn't work ....bad BONDO, rear bumper cracked and falling off, extreem death wobble, and lound clunk in trans when downshifting..................................... not to mention that it leaked oil from everywhere and the tires were bald! So a three and a half hor drive..... turns out there was a 1994 grand cherokee with 150,000 mi on it silver larado good interior and runs and shifts smooth..... no sunrooof :( :( , but I only paid $1900.00 :dunno: well ill get some pics up as soon as I'm not so depressed about the situation..... the one I bought smells like WEED HARD CORE I'm not sure how much more fabreese I can take and the dash is all cracked up also the sterio needs to be rewired because people are tards :fs1:

So what do you think 1900.00 for A 94 with 150000 mi in good shape..... :shake:
