btm24 Posted May 30, 2011 Share Posted May 30, 2011 A friend of mine helped me Installed the front part of a RC 4.5" lift the morning of (4:00 am) my high school graduation as a graduation present. The parts we installed are 4.5" coils, lower control arms, shocks, and Swaybar drop brackets. Since then there has been a lot of creaking up front when going over much of any thing. I was wondering if there was any thing i could grease up to make this creaking go away? Or is this just the new parts settling in place? philbert001 Posted May 30, 2011 Share Posted May 30, 2011 Did you loosen the upper control arms before everything went in, then re-tighten them at ride height with everything in place? On that note, did you tighten everything at ride height? Or did you torque it all down with the axle at full droop? If you tightened everything at droop, (Or if you didn't loosen the uppers first), it could be twisting the bushings into their new home at a different ride height. btm24 Posted May 30, 2011 Author Share Posted May 30, 2011 Nothing is "torqued" but tight with air tools. I went though and tightened every thing down before I put the tires on and set it on the ground but the front 2wd axle was held up by a full size jack. But it is posible that i missed something seeing as how it was 4 in the morning and had been working on this for like 8hr's. To put on the lower control arms we had to loosen and take off the uppers then we put them back on. Do you think thats good? Come tuesday i have access to a lift at my old high school thanks to the shop teacher so ill be able to do any thing that is needed to stop the creaking. Also, with that much lift, you'll need an alignment. (It'll be toed in pretty good at 4.5 inches) And you should be thinking about and adjustable track bar too. Also i can think all i want to but its gonna be a tad before i will be able to afford the adjustable track bar and such. philbert001 Posted May 30, 2011 Share Posted May 30, 2011 I've been tape measure aligning jeeps for years. Like Hubbell said, find a write up. And as far as the track bar goes, just drill a new hole in the Axle side mount towards the drivers side a half inch, or whatever it takes to re-center the axle. You'll need to put a nut on the backside, as the tab-nut will no longer fit in there and line up with the bolt. I ran my XJ with a stock track bar for like a year, (DD and wheelin it pretty hard too!), and never had issues with just moving it over! Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Even at that, with whats riding on top of that axle (your @$$, your friends @$$, your womans @$$, and possibly other drivers on the road) the $150 for an adjustable trackbar should be a non issue. I mainly posted up because an earlier post recommended drilling a new hole 1/2" over.
