Project Silver

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping that posting this will keep me motivated to keep the project going. This will be my DD and weekend hauler.

87 Base Model: 4.0, 2WD, Automatic, Dana 35 rear, 137k+ miles, AC, PS, SB, previous owner put a Maaco $300 paint job on right before I bought it in the original color other than that it appears everything else is original.

Thanks, Buxmj. It appears it has, I've crawled underneath it and there is no rust. The past 2 owners are Floridians, so I think its safe to say its been in the SE, if not FL, it's whole life.

Ironically, within 1 week of getting the truck had 2 offers for it, I was like not for sale, I looked too long and hard to sell!

  • 4 weeks later...

All my recent updates were deleted by Sunday's mess-up. So have to repost them.

Got the rust spots cut out, welded shut, then primered on bed rails. Have to get some surface rust out of bed then will Grizzly Grip it.

Killer MJ. I love the old style front end. I always wanted to do a '97+ conversion, but these have slowly grown on me to be my favorite front end.

I could trade you a 97 front end for the one off the farmer...

Nope. I'm keeping it. I love that look.

Nice looking truck

Did you do any lift on the back?

Thanks. Yes, we added a leaf spring, longer shocks and U bolts.

The one thing I do not like about the Rusty's kit is it did not come with a adjustable trackbar, which I'm going to have to buy one cause the front axle got off centered and the passenger front tire is rubbing on the sway bar link.
