Matt1971
My "New" 87 MJ 2x4 I6 4.0l 5 speed manual just over 198,000miles. Has some surface rust that is no big deal, only rusted through spots are just over the rear wheel flairs. Engine, floorboards, frame all in great condition. Sorry for the small picture, if you want to see a bettr one you can go to my picasa sitehttp://picasaweb.google.com/matt.newberry/My87MJ#5525495051752186130 until I learn better how to link photos. The lever on the hood release was rusted, that is how I found this site, was looking for how to get the hood open. I have to say this site is awesome you guys have some really good looking trucks. Hope my project turns out to be as nice. If anyone know where I can get a front CCV assembly would be great, mine is cracked, have it "repaired" with tape. No one seems to carry these anymore. Transmission is a bit noisy hoping that changing the tranny oil will help with that. Want to convert it to 4x4, lift it about 3", remove rust and new paint job. It's my DD and want to do light trails and camping on the weekends. Have always wanted a Comanche and finally have one  Hope to post more pics as I start fixing her up. Matt1971
Thanks Jimmy21669 have looked online for over a week and half a dozen autostores and couldn't find them. This site had it and I found it under 5 min!
Matt1971
ok, so I figured I'd upload a few pics. Here is the rust over the drivers side flair and the passenger side is a bit worse Interior loog great, few rips on the driver side of seat and radio needs replace crankcase cover gasket look like it needs replace, leaking a bit here's a shot of my CCV fresh air hose "fix" The front end, you can see how badly in need of a paint job she needs and the backend, tailgate is in decent shape Think these are stock wheels, not sure, but I like the look of them think of painting them black and keeping them. The guy I bought it from threw in 4 more just like them and 2 more hubcaps Christmas is coming up soon, so not gonna have alot of extra cash to throw into soon, but gonna get started on the regular maintenance. Need ot Replace th fron parking light\flasher, it won't flash when the headlamps are on. All and all I'm excited about the project.
Pete M
nice looking truck. the black interior is kinda rare. although I'd keep an eye out for a bench seat with the headrests. more than one of our members have broken the back window with the heads in minor fender benders. if you don't want to mess with the whole bench, the back part unbolts and should be easily interchanged. you might even be able to swap the black cover onto the new back.
btm24
is that seat leather  nice! Brandon
Matt1971
Thanks Pete, wouldn't have thought about the headrest. Will look into it. Not sure if I want to keep the bench or go with buckets, but seeing as the wife is hand making seatcovers for the bench it will stay for a bit ;) Need to pull up the carpet and check it out, but the whole undercarriage had undercoating on it that will need to be redone soon but is still mostly intact. If I have to clean up the floorboards I may just change out the seat then.
Matt1971
Vinyl, but in really good shape. like I said, the rips on the driver side are all there are. The passenger side looks new.
Matt1971
So I replaced the front drivers side turn signal/parking lamp socket. It wouldn't blink when the headlamps were on. It was backfeeding current. Picked up a Dorman 85898 for around $10. No pics of the work :( it was getting dark and starting to rain when I did it. You should have seen me with the flashlight between the legs and a raincoat draped over the hood and light lol Anyway all went well and is woking perfectly now. Note to self: get a canopy to work under
Pete M
I've had plenty of instances where one of those cheap canopies would have been reeeeally nice.
glundblad
I have always thought those white rims looked good. Especially on a mildly lifted truck with BFG all terrain tires. I would vote that you keep them white.

Matt1971
No part number that I saw listed but they are the ones the site list to replace factory original parts numbers #53004838 & #53004868. Here is the link to the page http://www.teamcherokee.com/Emissions/index.html The ones pictured above are the Emission Vacuum Harness Cherokee & Comanche 4.0 Liter 1988-1990. It says 88-90 but they are identical to the setup that was on my 87.

Matt1971
So was looking at my rear dif and it looks like it may be leaking slightly on the ds... btw, can anyone tell me what kind this one is? I'm thinking it's a Dana 35 :???: I don't know how you guys can tell just by looking at them. :hmm:
91MJdude
yes that is a dana 35. you can tell by the cover shape. just have to know from experience or pictures online also your proportioning valve rod is on wrong! the rod is suppose to be in the vertical position :) mine was the same way when I got it. you will be surprised how much better your brakes will work now!
