Automan2164
Well, I can finally break the silence, as its at my house, and officially mine. I recently sold the Rev, and my half Metric Ton to JeepcoMJ, with my sights set on a rust free MJ. I was going to H.O. the Rev ('90 LWB) but it had soft rockers, no floor, and a crap bed from rust :ack: . The prospect of a truck that was already minus a trans, engine ready to pull, a Factory Metric Ton, and NO RUST got me excited. I had found it on CL as a package deal, with another MJ for $2200, but had to have this one. Quick stats: 1987 Jeep Comanche Base 4.0L / AW4 / D44 Bad Engine, Trans removed NO RUST!!!! Originally delivered to West Los Angeles!!! Has a ladder rack made at a welding shop in CA Socal Surf shop sticker Contacted the seller, and turns out he's a member, XXLMJ. This was supposed to be his rust free shell to put the drivetrain from his other MJ into, but is playing with a Duster, and baby on the way (actually inducing labor tomorrow), so projects need to clear out. He doesn't know much about it, he didn't even know that it was a California truck. He bought it from a farmer, who bought it from a farmer who used it to haul watermelons in Michigan. Once I told him the dealer info, he pointed out how he always thought it was weird that the rack was welded in Cali. Now the best part... Upon inspection, no midwest rust. Not even the floors are rotted. Just a little bit of surface rust on the floors! The bedsides aren't crunchy over the wheelwells, the cab corners are solid, and overall very clean. The only thing with midwest rust is the tailgate. That's fine though, we know how how easy those come off. 8) I picked it up for $500 from Dave, and got it home with the tow dolly from Pat, and the enlistment of a buddy who volunteered his F150. Spent the day driving from IL/WI border to Darn near Michigan in Indiana. Stopped at a pizza buffet, a Bass Pro shop (HUGE!), and spent it with the GF, My buddy, and his fiance. And, since I nickname all of my trucks, let me introduce... The Melon Farmer. :D Dave and I after loading it up: (I am on the right, I think my GF snapped the pic while I was making a face :rotfl2: ) At the gas station getting into town: All in all it was a great trip, and I am happy to have it home. Just happened to be my birthday today, so it was a good present to myself. ;) Plans are to do the AX15 HO conversion I had waiting for the Rev, 4x4 Conversion, 4.5 Hell Creek lift, 31/32" tires, and 4.10's. Make it a utility truck that can still have fun when needed. I am just all sorts of excited to be not having to fight rust right off the bat. You southern guys have no idea how lucky you are. I can't wait to start putting it together. Rob L.

dasbulliwagen
After living in Michigan most of my life, I am now very thankful that I'm in the south with rust free toys! And you know that if you want to keep that truck like that, you won't drive it in the winter! I used to have to find a winter beater every year so I could put my nice VW's away for the winter to keep the rot off them. Nice find though, and I look forward to the build! jimoshel
Nice score. Swap ya straight across for a '77 J20, after you replace the tail gate. Or a '75 :brows:
500 MJ
Nice grab Rob! Yes, that Bass Pro Shops is huge, I drive by it every time I go home. Got the g/f a $50 gift card there for Christmas last year, guess we gotta go back to get her a present... :brows:
Automan2164
Thanks fellas. Finally got a chance to go through the new purchase, and this caught my eye: It appears to be stock, but in all the MJ's I have torn through, I have never seen one... Maybe someone else here has? Its a map light / visor clip / storage deal. Its matched to the factory interior color, has two map lights, and has a little trap door (the thing that looks like a compass display pushes into a compartment). Just curious if anyone else could fill me in. Rob L. :D

HOrnbrod
MJs never had overhead consoles, even the exports, so this has to be from something else Rob. From what? I have no idea..............
