MJ factory tailgate

Recommended Posts

My mj still has the original tailgate, from what ive been reading a lot of people no longer have 'em.

Basically what I'm trying to ask is that do these get stolen often? Ive had buddies who have had their tailgates stolen so I'm wondering If i should secure mine... Any ideas?

alright, just kinda wondering... hopefully soon ill be taking it off for storage as a build myself one with an integrated tire carrier :D ... it gets old trying to load stuff into a shortbed with a toolbox and spare tire in the way.

on another note I'm looking at buying an inexpensive 2.5 86 mj with a motor issue.

:grrrr: addicted

Here is what you can do to prevent your tailgate easily walking off, for only a couple bucks...

Are you familiar with how the gate comes off? With the notched cup on the one side, take the gate halfway down and pull out and such? Take a metal hose clamp, and tighten it around the end that has the slot. It will prevent someone from taking the gate without taking off the clamp. The clamp will keep the slot covered, so you can't just tip the gate and pull it off. If YOU ever need to take it off, just keep a screwdriver in the glovebox. It will keep the little gate stealin bastid's in check.

Make sense?

if your tailgate gets stolen then i think its time to move.

His location says KCK... if its the KCK I know... they would steal the caps off your valve stems if they could.... I had a POS rental Hyundai stolen not once but twice while working there...

Don't worry, I have a couple of spare gates, and it looks like you are near me. I'm in Belton, so it could be easily replaced, but I don't think you have to worry. How many comanches do you see around us? I saw one yesterday, but it had been 3 months before that, that I saw another one, and it was at pick and pull. The clamp is a good idea though.

It's funny that you mentioned someone stealing the tail gate. There is a guy who lived by my parents who was also restoring a Comanche. He was talking to me about how hard it was for him to find a cap for his clutch fluid reservoir, and some other small things. Well, one day while I was out of town, I left my truck at my parents. Came home and his truck was finally up and running. And wouldn't you know, all the things he said he was missing were suddenly and coincidentally missing from mine now! Douchebag.

sorry guys should have specified, I actually live in Leawood Kansas, a suburb of KCK. Here cops get called when you walk on someones grass, or say when you happen to drive a mustang with open headers up the street at say 11pm. Once had the sherrif and a local cop show up within one hour... We're just rednecks living in the city. :waving: Crime where i live isnt an issue, crime near the jys I frequent however is the opposite story. Ive had backpacks and whatnot taken from my truck while i was gone for 30 mins. :fs1:

Also itll discourage people from taking it just to mess with me, since MJs are admittedly scarce around my area. Great Idea though, I'm gonna give it a shot
