I need to replace the u-bolts since I changed springs. I'm looking for 2.75" inner diameter ones for my D44 but no one seems to have them, Autozone, Advance, Napa is closed today... I even tried PepBoys. I can order them online but was really hoping to get my spring swap finished today.

Any ideas where I can get these?

If I have to order online, are there any preferred brands? The Rubicon Express U-Bolt Kit looks pretty good, $40 ( ) for all four bolts, washers, and nuts; or Motion Offroad has them $11 each; RuffStuff has some "premium" ones for $12.50 each... worth the price?

I have the motion's now, had the RE and had a set made locally in the past. 10-15 EA is going rate for good U Bolts.

I order mine online.

Thanks. Called around and found a napa store that's open, none of the stores around here have them in stock and they'd have to ship it in anyway. I think I'll go with the more expensive RuffStuff grade 8 bolts, and get something a little heavier-duty to go with the D44/Metric Tonne combo which I will be abusing. Guess I won't be finishing the swap this weekend though :fs1: Serves me right for assuming I wouldn't have any trouble finding them locally.

I get them from Napa. Here if I order today.. they will be here tomorrow when I get out of work.

I have mine custom made to order locally. Price varies with the length and diameter rod it is made from, but usually ~$5 per bolt, plus a bit for nuts and washers.

I also get them made locally. IIRC, the last time I had a set made they ran about $6.50 each -- but that's very likely subject to faulty memory.

You won't be able to match the exact size. Factory u-bolts for the XJ were 12mm, factory u-bolts for the MJ were 14mm. American sources use American sizes. 1/2" is smaller, and 9/16" is larger. Since I play with both XJs and MJs, I have standardized on using 1/2", made locally by a shop that builds springs for heavy trucks. I figure a NEW, heavy-duty 1/2" u-bolt is at least as good as a 20+ year old, rusty 14mm u-bolt.

I got new ubolts from tractor supply, i'll post up the part number if anyone is interested.

fits perfectly. 6 bucks a pop also.

What's the part number? Is it for a dana 44?

Part #514, i have a Dana 35 rear, idk if it fits a Dana 44.

No, it won't. BTW, that p/n doesn't exist on the TSC website. Also, the largest U-bolts they have are 3/8" that are too small for even the D35. 'Course the web site might not list everything............. :D

So does anyone have a good source for spring plates for a D44? I haven't' found any locally and am also not having any luck with u-bolts. :fs1:

If your going to stay spring under, I much prefer the older JKS B2 plate. But for spring over I would go with a kit that eliminates the U Bolts entirely. OR the JKS B3 might also work.

last year i broke three u bults so i had some top notch mother truckers made up. 5/8 fine thread with hardware at Rochester Truck Repair. a little pricey but i got the peace of mind i wanted. about $44. they were 3'' ID 16'' long

5/8 inch is way overkill. The close SAE equivalent to a 14mm would be 9/16", and my local spring shop doesn't charge much more for those than they do for the 1/2 inch style. I just think it's easier for my limited mentality to deal with one size, so I've standardized on 1/2".

go look in your local Tractor Supply maybe, theres where i saw it.

I went to TSC this weekend, and was happy to see that the 514 U-bolts are available in the store, though the website has no listing for them. $18 for all 4, with washers and nuts.

As for U-bolts I got a set at O'Reilley's and they were about $6 a pair. I needed a set when I swapped in a Chryco 8.25 rear. Glad that D turdy-five is gone.
