What gears would a longbed 86 2.8 v6 with an auto have?

Recommended Posts

Not quite, the 4:56's came in 87-89 XJ/MJ models with the 2.5/AW4 combo (only)

JT, that axle may have CV-jointed shafts in the front instead of u-jointed ones (if that's a concern to you).

....I stand corrected ;)

I've only ever seen 4 of them in my life, one was the 87 XJ that donated it's D30 to my MJ, one 89 XJ in Harry's U-pull it, one 87 MJ currently sitting in my junkyard that I stripped bare, and Jerry's 87 or 88 MJ (tjbliley).

Like Pete says, ANYTHING is possible.

No one knows for sure. It's an 86, and if I've learned anything about 86s, it's that you can't reliably predict what gears they will have. :(

Even the parts books couldn't agree with the Dealer Brochures & Data Book that year.

Dealer books said gear options were 3.31's, 3.54's, and 4.10's (but not telling you which combo got which gears)

Parts book only lists part numbers for 3.08's, 3.55's & 4.11's.

Only thing I'm sure of in 1986 is Metric Ton MJ's got AMC 20's, with 4.10's.

Other than that, I'm not even gonna guess. :smart:
