Anybody ever put a tailgate lock on their commanche?

Pics?

Recommendations for lock?

Kind of silly to lock a shell and then have a tailgate the doesn't lock. Even if it's just little things in the back.

Why? The shell hatch door closes over the tailgate, so when you lock the hatch you can't open the tailgate. But if someone really wants to get in, it'll only slow them down for a second or two.

Hey Don not every body runs a topper , some have roll-back or hard tonneaus FWIW :fool:

I am looking to build myself a custom cover inside the bed rails so it will be pretty low-profile. So a locking tailgae would be great for me.

Wasn't the OP asking about a shell?

But I'd like to have the option of locking the tailgate too if anyone comes up with a solution. :D

For mine I just got a standard, sliding pin type lock. I mounted it inside the tailgate. Then when I close the top and lock it, nobody can access the inside lock.

Yea, I thought about that. The problem is, when I build my top I want it smooth, so I would like to find a way to lock the tailgate handle instead of having to figure out how to fab in a locking mech on my cover.

I was going to have the cover shut, have latches on each side then just close the tailgate.

I fabbed up a metal plate that mounts behind the MJ tailgate handle with a power door lock actuator and rod attached to it that's "in" the tailgate about 7 inches. Ran the wires to the cab and tied the electrical in. Less of a chance my tailgate will walk off.

I don't suppose you have a write up on that and some pics, it sounds pretty sweet.
