I *think* the 1990 factory rack is the same as an 87's.

I took my old 87 XJ's rack off years ago.

It used screws, and a type of rubber covered nut insert, that went into holes in the roof.

Tightening the screw into the nut insert expanded the rubber, and it locked itself into the hole.

Most of them fell apart when I took them out.

I wonder, would it look good to get a XJ roof rack, cut it down and put it on an MJ?

If I remember right, I think Jeepco's brother did that

I remember Jeepco's bro's rack, It was quite interesting, I liked it. But I think it was made from a few Yakima drip rail mount racks with the basket on top, not a stock rack.

Saw this in a build thread the other day.

Definitely not a stock roof rack from a cherokee b/c it mounts on the rain gutters. I'm sure a stock roof rack from a cherokee could be modified and put up there and look pretty good.

Or you can do like my mechanic and do this:

Sorry about the crewcab hijack, but I had alot of fun with that pic when it was posted on JU (5+ years ago).

Someone posted it, then others claimed it was a chop.

I added fuel to the fire:

So they posted another pic:

so I *fixed* that one too :D

Hahaha I'll have to show that to Steve (the owner of that crewmanche). He's actually gonna have it up at the Wheel In at Oak Ridge next weekend on display. He is a really cool guy and is a vault of information when it comes to Jeeps.

Give him a club business card. :D

I remember the controversy over those pictures. It was hilarious. :rotf:
