comancheman
ok so just finished redoing my brakes. new lines, booster, master cyl, calipers, everything brake related is new. spent around $400 on everything. go in for inspection. . . 3 out of 4 bad ball joints, holes in both side floors, and no back up lights. back up lights come on you just have to jiggle the shifter a little but no thats not acceptable! ok i actually enjoy putting new parts on the truck especially safety related ones but thats around $700 total this month. I paid that much for the truck. I'm just glad I don't have to pay labor charges. I'm also kicking myself for not checkin the front end when i did the brakes but hey what can you do. rant over :ack:

JeepcoMJ
you can rebuild the neutral safety switch if it's an automatic aw4 by removing it cleaning it, repacking it with dialectic grease and putting it back on. -Pat

JeepcoMJ
What's this "inspection"? :dunno: I am so glad I live in a place without inspections and without emissions. agreed. I got pulled over by an inspection trooper however just this last year with my 87. couldn't find any height spec measurements on a comanche so I got off free :D
WyoCherokee
What's this "inspection"? :dunno: :agree: its a big bunch of malarky. there is no way any of my vehicles would pass. they would probbaly roll over and die if i brought in the 67 :clapping:
87Warrior
What's this "inspection"? :dunno: Here in KS we have one inspection: If you buy a vehicle, used and out of state, the sheriffs office must confirm that the VIN on the dash is the same as on the Title. My Comanche fell subject to this. I get why some states have the sniffer test, but beyond that its just stupid.
Pete M
The sniffer test (at least how it was run here in Michigan years ago) was just a tax on the poor (new vehicles don't fail, old ones do). What a scam. Thank goodness it finally went away. :D

gogetemturbo
Just be happy you don't live in the smog capitol - stupid california  :help:
Pete M
Trust me, I am happy about that. :D I'll gladly visit for a couple weeks some day, but I couldn't take all the asinine rules. :ack: As I understand it, Georgia has differing rules county by county and it was a requirement for my bro-in-law to live in a county that was both wet and smog test free. :D
Oizarod115
right you are about GA being different county to county... thats why the truck is owned by my brother who lives in a smog-test-free county, and the volvo is in my name cause it passes :D although i'm glad we have smog-testing cause it keeps most of the stinkin-old-heaps off the road. (yeah, mine stinks but it's not like a late carbureted firebird or anything lol.)
Pete M
although i'm glad we have smog-testing cause it keeps most of the stinkin-old-heaps off the road. Not really. Ineffectiveness was a big reason why Michigan threw it out the window. There are soooo many ways around the system (like the one you've found). It's just a big scam to get your money. ren
I know that the one back VA. was a joke, as you couldn't be "hit" for some thing if it wasn't there...I.E. backup light- remove the socket, and no problem. If the socket was there, then the light HAD BETTER WORK. Holes in the floorboard- put the carpet back in. Duh. What a joke. Ky, now that is different. Goes by population size I.E. Louisville had a "sniffer" test but you could fail and get a "repair quote" for over $500 to fix it, and no more test. ???? Around here... Man you should see some the crap driving around. I think that some of those rides require a Tetnas booster just to look at, and that some them have allready been THROUGH the crusher. :shake:
702_MJ
LOL, at least I'm not the only one who hates this subject :fs1: . Hawaii is a piece of crap, they follow in the same path as cali, it just takes a few years for them to think about it. Tried to get mine inspected and this is what i got. 1. Headlights are blue(ok wtf) 2.Your tires are almost outside the stock flares( so theres toyotas with 15" deep rims rolling around) 3. My e brake doesnt work(ok i fixed it now) 4. Is this truck lifted "uh no thats stock" (ok 1.5" shouldnt count) That was at firestone. They all are professional. Went to a crooked shop and the guy said he would pass me if i change my headlights. Did that go back the next day and sum punk kid tells me my exhaust is too LOUD!!! Guess what he drove.........A HONDA WITH A FART CAN ON IT! Tried to throw the whole its legal thing and they said "once we saw the flowmaster equipped sticker we aint gonna do it" OK so the fart cans pass, and the camaros with open pipe pass. WTF Looked online on the rules, nothing against exhaust but....... -height limits for trucks -if you got tires that stick out of the body you need flares to cover them Theres more but thats the ones I'm concerned about when i throw my lift and tires on. Some times living in paradise aint worth the hassle
