Hi All.

I’m a New jeep owner, an 88’ Comanche 2X4. This is my first JEEP, and sadly it’s a 2X4 :) . (can that be fixed?)

I’m new to Jeeps, but not off-roading or trucks. I have a fuel injected 79’ Power wagon and a 525+HP 6.4 HEMI Dodge 4X4.

I must say there are many very nice Comanche trucks on this site. I look forward to reading and getting more info on these very nice Comanche trucks, and communicating with all of you on here.

I originally bought this Comanche truck to pick up a new engine for my Dodge RAM, and as a temporary work truck. But after driving it for a few days, I really like it. I’m thinking of using it as my primary work truck.

This truck was built before the great “Cup Holder Wars” of the 90’s. You know, where a 4 passenger car came with 12 to 20 cup holders. My only complaint is the lack of a cup holder in this jeep. Not a bad truck, when my biggest complaint is a cup holder. :)

Welcome, I think there's still some beer in the fridge. If you keep the MJ, get a 4x4 XJ and swap what you need over.

Lots of helpful friendly people here. :waving:

Actually......there a few threads on cupholders here. I think I started one, complete with pics. Things are looking up.

I love my 2wd. Very handy to have around, It's my daily driver. I also have a Wrangler for 4wd.

welcome to the site.

for some reason I have yet to part with my comanche even though I go through 15-20 vehicles a year. there is just something about this truck that makes me keep it and wash away any thought of selling it.

Welcome to the club

I have to admittt that when I bought my truck I intended on just trowing some used M/T's at it and abusing it until it died

but the more I drove the more I liked it and now it's all I drive.

Moral of the story biuld some cup holder's and ditch the dodge.

Don't know about the cup holders, but the 2wd part can be fixed quite easily by using parts off a Cherokee. And Cherokees are everywhere. The only issue is the rear drive shaft, and you'd probably be best off by having a shop cut your current rear drive shaft down to the shorter length needed for 4wd.

Oh, and welcome!

4wd swap as everyone has said is pretty straightforward, just rip everything out of an XJ.

As for the cupholder problem, here's a clever way to solve that problem, this will only work however as long as you plan to keep your bench seat.

welcome!

mine's a 2wd (for the moment, i just need to find time to pull the interior to install t-case shifter and swap the transmissions...). it does pretty good in the snow, now that there's an extra dana turdy-5 axle in the bed :D

but judging by how clean your truck looks, i'm thinking you're not from the rust belt. that, and what looks like a texas inspection sticker in the windshield.

what engine/trans do you have in there right now?

This truck has absolutely no rust, except on those rims, and I just put some clean shiny rims and tires on. it was just panted 2 weeks ago, and has new front grill, new side glass, new plastic parts on outside, all new lights (except tail lights). From the outside, the truck looks new. From what I can tell, the original owner was in Arizona, so this jeep was in good climates for most of its 20 year life.

It’s a standard (not sure on what transmission, it’s a 5 speed). It has a 4.0 inline 6, and looks good in the engine bay, very little oil and grime. The engine pulls real hard; I’m quite impressed with the 4.0. This little truck drives great, I mean it’s got its quarks, but damn for a 20 year old truck with over 250,000 miles, it drives great!. And what’s really cool, its unique and rare. I have yet to see another on the road in my parts. It’s a great looking design, I’m really surprised more wore not built.

I originally got this truck to pick up my HEMI engine, and use it for a few weeks for service calls, till my other truck was ready. I have decided to keep this JEEP as part of my fleet, and I’m going to build it up. First major mod is conversion to 4X4, then a stroked 4.0, and so on. You all know how it starts, add a $2.00 cup holder, then a year later you got $12,000 ~ $20,000 spent. : )

thanks all.
