Headers and other aftermarket exhaust
Kernel replied to Brenton's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
YES! and no. my case cracked manifold/s: you can replace your stock soon to be cracked already cracked manifold with another stock manifold ? for half the price of a borla/banks (over the counter). or have your soon to be cracked prob already cracked manifold welded up. the borla helped the renix still not a high output but it helped it. the biggest gain was just climbing grades (in a rig that has the aerodynamics of a brick and with mine running 35's w/4:56's) being able to stay in overdrive without running in 3rd for miles. went with the banks on the mj just to be different/try it plus the previous owner had a new cat back exhaust (muffler shop) installed. the banks just bolted right to the stock down tube. stock 4.0L manifold suck. .02 -
Headers and other aftermarket exhaust

header wise i have a borla on my '87 xj (with cat back) and a banks on my '91 mj (just header). the borla helped the renix but the banks is/was a stock replacement. cat back for a mj prob not but you could get the header, down tube, to cat, maybe muffler and then head to your local exhaust shop. maybe flowmaster makes a cat back systems? been very happy with both headers (borla late 90's, banks mid 2000's) with no prob... expensive yes. worth it yes. .02 -

not saying it's your fuel pump. my rig would never not start just took longer and longer. i ran around with a pressure guage attached to the fuel rail and found a pattern. there ended up being a crack in the top of the fuel pump. it ran at pressure but would flutter to 31-34psi. edit: it also (the pressure) would drain off purdy quick after shut down.

paid 3.69 per gal for 87 this morning at an arco (cash only) in campbell ca (northern ca, south bay). this is about .10-.15 cheaper than most named stations but had to fill up the zj... 85 bucks later... ouch. :shake:

i've had my kit for 10+yrs.... kit came with different mfg wheel studs. didn't think anything about it until i had a couple work free and 1 blew a hole thru the hat on my pass side disc. my kit came with no locking studs on the spindle nuts. i didn't know any different at the time. the hubs would keep coming loose and breaking the locating tabs on the washers. a buddy brought it to my attention yrs later as i was tightening up my hubs after a con run and i found out later warn had an upgrade kit... but by then i was using some old 44 nuts & washers. the o-ring at the base of the hubs get chewed up... not sure how this happens.

nice  you will love the extra clearance. especially if you run a small lift. i suggest you weld a tube/bar on the outside of the 2x6 to give a little more clearance for the body. .02 made mine into air tanks. :D -
thanks for the rims. posting because i had no idea we had anything in common until i pulled up in front of his house and parked behind his mj. comancheclub sticker worked again. mark p.s. should have taken a picture. :D
