Will hopefully get her back on all fours. :brows: Talking about the MJ you sicko's.

I'm on the fence. I guess I'll wait till he's finished. However I do agree with the bumper statement. The small original one just looks, well too small. Far as the grille, maybe some billet inserts with a honeycomb pattern. :dunno: I do like the fact that its different and kind of a one of a kind.

Stubbled across it on craigslist just looking around for parts. Emailed the guy not really expecting him to still have it since the listing was a couple of weeks old. The engine was rebuilt 10 years ago for a project and never installed or fired up. I'm not counting chickens until I pull the oil pan for a look see, but I'm feeling pretty confident about it. I drove up to Maryland on the eastern shore to pick it up. Also got the rest of the hardware today for the drop brackets. This long 4th of July weekend should pay off for getting some stuff done.

Not to go to far off topic, here come's the rant, I am so sick of people driving while screwing around on their cell phone. I've been to the point of road rage after getting behind someone going 10mph slower than the speed limit and going in and out of the lane, just to pull up beside them and see them holding a cell phone and pushing buttons. Worst yet someone sitting at an intersection and wasting up all the green and leaves you with the red. :headpop: :headpop: :wall: :thwak: I'm looking for a train horn that will hook up and fit under the hood so at lease I can get there attention. I'm not one for stickers, but a large one with HANG UP AND DRIVE, would be great on the back window and in reverse on the front so when I blast the window shattering horn they will read it. Rant over.

Questions about buying a rebuilt engine.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Speaking on removing the dizzy, I tried to last night and couldn't get it out. The bolt is out, so whats the trick. -
Not much in progress. I finally got my drop brackets on the 40th day only to be missing hardware. :headpop: Now I'm waiting on that. I did however pick up a rebuilt motor for $150. I,m to the point were once I get over the hump, it should be smooth sailing.

Questions about buying a rebuilt engine.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well I picked it up today. 3hrs up and 3hrs back. Factor gas cost, tolls, and price for the motor, total $250. It was a little late and rain was moving in so I haven't done a complete internal inspection. From what I can see through the oil fill and plug holes, it looks pretty good. Here's some pic's. Got the engine stand in the deal. :brows: Will post what I find later. -
You could go and buy this Comanche off of Bostons craigslist while your there. :brows: Just a side note, I've notice whenever I travel now, I do check craigslist where I'm heading. Back to the thread.

Search works pretty good, just be specific with what your looking for. And don't be affraid to ask questions. Get some pic's up and we'll tell ya what ya got.

Questions about buying a rebuilt engine.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would grab it all but two things, one I'm trying to save a little cash and two I have 2 231 tcases, 1 242 tcase, a 4.0, a 2.5 with 4spd tranny, a aw4, a D44, a high pinion D30 and D35, front 2wd axle, and a whole lot of other stuff in the garage right now. I just don't think I have the room. :D -
Well if we are dreaming about dream rides, I'll take this one. I know, but what the hell. :D

Questions about buying a rebuilt engine.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well the guy sent me the copy of the reciepts. It's a done deal, $150. I'll pick it up this weekend. Now I just have to figure out how to get it into the back of my wifes 06 Highlander. :brows: It's way better on gas than the TJ with trailer and I dare not take the 86 MJ for a 276 mile round trip. The only down side to not taking the trailer is that he has a Aw4 and 231 tcase that I could also get for another $200. $350 for a complete setup aint bad. Decisions, decisions. -
Unless you have a lot of time to wait for the parts, DO NOT buy from RRO. Ask me how I know.
-
Well I got it to pass inspection and will let the kid drive it till it dies. I'll then probably just throw the other 4cyl in it and drive it some more. It did stop shifting into 5th which I'll look into when I get a chance. Not a big deal right now as it will be driven about 8 miles a day on city streets. Almost bought it's evil twin with a jasper 4.0 for $500. Wife would have killed me. So I let it pass.

Questions about buying a rebuilt engine.
mfpdm replied to mfpdm's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know what you mean Wade. I can bolt things on with the best of them but engine rebuilding is very close if not over my limits. Here's some more info and pic. The engine was rebuilt by NAPA and is bored .040 over and power honed. He's going to send me the scan copy of the reciepts. Here's the pic and from the looks of it, it's been garage kept. -
So I've came across a rebuilt engine for sale for cheap (under $200). It's a 4.0 out of an 89 XJ. According to the owner, "it was a total rebuild magnaflux, bored, new bearings pistons and rods and I have the receipts from napa still adding up to over $850. It was rebuilt 10 years ago but the project never was finished so it was never fired up. The engine comes with all the brackets, intake and exhaust manifold, a/c compressor, dist. and alternator". So my question is, after sitting for ten years, what if any ill effects will that have on the motor and what are the things I should look at or do when or if I go to pick it up?
-
Well I contacted them and they are going to send the missing parts. I went with them solely on the fact that they make the support brackets to fit the MJ or else I would have gone with the RCX ones. We'll just have to wait and see how they come out before I total condemn them, but it's not looking good.

So I pick up a set of MJ Nerf bars Not sure which MJ will get them however I was wondering, 1. Why do they call them Nerf bars? 2. The serious question, Does anyone have the measurements or pictures (both would be best) to where they attach to the frame?

Well, I finally recieved my control arm drop brackets from Rocky Road Outfitters this week. 40 days from time of purchase. They appear to be made pretty well with decent welds. However, the trill of recieving them went away quickly when I started the install to find them missing the self threading bolts that attach the braces to the frame. :headpop: I figured I'd go up to Lowes and pick some up. Nope, maybe Home Depot, Nope again. :headpop: :headpop: Well maybe I'll just put the rest together and find the bolts at a fastner shop I know of on Monday. Dang sleve won't fit into the bracket. Well it fits on the other one with extra room to spare. Well here's the problem, there is an 1/8 inch or better difference. I closed the garage door, turned out the light, and went inside to cool off. :hateputers: :headpop:  I can't believe this crap after I've waited this long. Right now I have nothing good to say about RRO. I may change my mind once they are installed but I doubt it. Sorry for the rant but I've had it with poor business practices and low quality control.

Just got back from the LA area. I thought the weather was great and didn't realize that there was a heat wave happening until I was watching the news at the airport. I guess that dry heat compared to our east coast 90% humidity makes all the difference.

Pete, Eagle was there really a "Street Edition" Co
mfpdm replied to jeepdoggydogB's topic in The Pub
Yep, only 100 of them made. Those are what I think as the only rare Comanches. Since the ground effects is off of it, I'd have to run the VIN to make sure it was truely a "Street MJ". I think you'd actually have to run the VIN through Jeep to get that info because it was an aftermarket company that put the body package on it I do believe. Maybe someone else can chime in. -
Well it got rejected. I have to replace the front brake lines due to cracks in the rubber (dry rot) and replace the rear drums. Also one of the headlights is not properly aimed. But the one that gets me the most is I have to fix the couple of holes in the floor board. I ask why and he said to keep exhaust out of the cab. :headpop: I asked him what is the difference between them and having the window down. Well whatever. I've got 15 days to get them fixed and they will re-inspect it for a buck. I think this one is going on craigslist as soon as I get a passing inspection. I don't have time for another major project.
