  1. Those look swweeett. I may have to reconsider my tire size now. I'll be running the same coils in front with the SOA in the rear with 31's. Great job.
  2. See, that's how it all starts. Couple bucks here, couple bucks there. Next thing you know your 8-10k in the hole and still not done. :D Nice job so far.
  3. Lock it and forget about it. You will still have 2 lo because it's the t-case that decides what range your in, not the axle. And yeah 242's all came with non-CAD axles, thus not having vacuum lines run to it.
  4. Glad you had a good time there Jeff. Was the bar call the Green House still there in St. Thomas? They had dollar Heinekens. Nothing like a cheap drunk. :brows: I'll take a cruise one day after I get out of the Navy. Probably won't know how to act with someone else taking care of the ships operations. :D
  5. Thanks to all for the great compliments. They motivate me to get things done. Got my tie rod dust boots today from Jegs. Put them on and was able to put the ZJ tie rod and draglink on the axle. (one less thing to trip over). Also installed the new UCA bushings. Kinda hard to see but I'll get some more pics when it's under the truck. Was going to do a little painting but the temp drop down into the mid 50's so I figured I'd wait for a little warmer day. Instead, I cleaned up the inner fender covers. I'm going to wait till I get the drop brackets before I install the axle so I only have to do it once. I'm sure with all that is left to do I'll find something to do in it's place.
  6. Don't sell yourself short. You've done more than I could ever do. Ours is all show no go. While we've been tripping over parts in the garage, you've been driving yours.
  7. House: Actually, any show produced by Bad Hat Productions. Well actually, it's from JAWS. But I do laugh every time I see House and that comes on at the end. You're gonna need a bigger boat.
  8. Looks great. What shocks will you be putting on her?
  9. Since I have the front axle and suspension out, I've been cleaning up the wheel wells. I got a set of inner plastic covers out of a 95 XJ to replace my cracked ones. At first I pulled a set off a 2000 XJ but soon realized that 97+ XJs would not work. However I noticed something that made me wonder about the MJs. There were strips of foam rubber tucked between the rear of the fender and door. Once I got home I noticed how there was big holes/gaps between the two and how the rubber would help keep stuff out of the door jam and provide some sound deadning. So long story short, here is what I did. Arrow shows the door seen through the fender. Took a piece of cardboard and a protractor and made a template of the gap. Used the template to cut out one for each side. Then put them in place. I made them a bit bigger so they would fit nice and tight and not move around after a few bumps. I left a small opening at the bottom, below the door, so if water does get in, it can drain. I also put the hard lines back on. There a little funky at the front because the firewall bracket is not on yet. This pic tells me I need to do something with the underside of the bed. When I spray the undercoating in the wheel wells, I'll hit the bed with a light coat to cover up the old blue color. Then I'll put the gas tank in. Debating whether to paint the tank or just clean it up good. I should get the rest of my parts to put the front axle in this week. Then I can put the new RE 4.5 inch springs in place of the Rusty's 3 inchers.
  10. I did a write up on the swap that may answer alot of your questions. Here's the link. http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8093
  11. That's some bad hat, Harry.
  12. That does blow. I know that will be one of my biggest fears when I get the MJ back on the road. Anyway, here's one on ebay for cheap. Click Here
  13. Looking good so far.
  14. 5) Remove CAD axle and replace with a non-CAD axle. This eliminates the problem from coming back and would probably cost less than a POSI-LOC. :brows:

    RRO Drop brackets.

I almost bought a set of RC's and then ran across these. I really think I might jump on them. I figure with them on ebay they are more prone to deliver better satisfaction or face the old negative feedback. I would also have better options to get my money back if needed.
  16. HaHa, at first I thought it was in Russia. I'd buy it for that price. :brows:
  17. Seen these (click here) on ebay for awhile and was wondering if anyone here has installed them. I've seen RE's and RC's but not RRO's. These are the first ones I've seen with support brackets for the MJ. I know I've heard/seen bad things about RRO's customer service but not too much about their products. Anyone else deal with them?
  18. Liner looks good but yeah that sucks with the workmanship. I would call the Line-x headquarters and log a complaint. This may not be the first time that installer has screwed up. They have the power to pull their franchise from him if he is not properly installing their product. It's worth a try.
  19. Well, the guy got sniped in the last 30 secs. $2524, not totally unreasonable but more than what I'd spend on a 28 year old diesel. Like hornbrod said, it would be nice to have because of it's rarity but I figured out the savings over regular gas and it's not a lot with diesel at $4.20 a gallon. Oh well, there are more fish in the sea. :brows:
  20. Been watching this (click here) on ebay. It's a hard to find factory diesel XJ. Was thinking about it till it went over $1000. I was thinking DD and taking it back to stock. So like the title says, What would you pay for something like this?
  21. This is fun. Makes me feel just a bit older. Turn!Turn!Turn! by the Byrds
  22. Isn't that the signature gun for 007? I've always though a simple pump action shotgun would do the trick. Less aiming and less chance that you blow through the target and into something or someone else. "There's two sound that are embedded into ones memory, the sound of their mothers voice and the racking of a shotgun".
  23. Well for the frame I used POR 15 in spots and chassis coat from POR-15. It has a lot of the same properties of POR 15, is not UV sensitive, and is designed for the frame and firewalls. It goes on kind of thick and reminds me of that rubberized coating you dip tools in. I got a quart just to see how I liked it and managed to do the whole frame. It brushes on great. Far as the axles and pretty much everthing else, I used rustoleum automotive primer (2 coats) then the rustoleum professional high performance enamel (2 coats). I used gloss on the axles, but semi gloss on the spring packs. I like the semi gloss because it covers misstakes better. :D With everything I've painted, prep work makes the difference. I degrease first with purple power. Then if needed or if possible I wire wheel the surface or for smaller parts I sandblast. The frame got degreased and pressure wash before I sent it to paint. Also right before I paint, I wipe it down with mineral spirits. It's not perfect but I feel pretty good that it will hold up for a little while.
  24. Well got a bit more done this weekend but nothing too exciting. Kind of feels like I'm going backwards though. I took out both axles and all the suspension parts along with the steering box. Out with the old 2wd axle. Once I got it out I was able to finish painting the frame forward of the cab. Also got the spring packs painted and back together. Still need to get a couple of bolts for them. Plan is to get as much as I can related to the frame done before moving on. Will be running all the electrical, brake lines, fuel lines, and installing the gas tank next. More to come.
  25. Looks like you had some fun. Nice looking rig too.
