  1. I have done a lot of looking for the perfect radio swap that would keep the factory appeal and look for the era. I was just going to put an old disc changer behind the seat and wire it into the stock radio but decided I didn't want the little changer fob. Thought of using one from a Ford Contour. It fits good and doesn't look too bad. Even has a small amp with them. Then one day while looking for some parts for a mazda pu, the JY guy sent me to the wrong row. Instead of a mazda pu, it was a mazda protege. I was a little tick until I looked inside a saw something I might could use. The radio has a single knob and buttons like the MJs have. Also it should fit better than the ford one because it is almost identical in size. The Ford one needed just a little bit of shaving around the bezel so the buttons wouldn't hit. The mazda one will not need any modifications that I can see however I have not put it in yet. I'll be sure to upload pic's in my build when I get around putting it in but I think it should look good. Just have to rub that Mazda word off of it.
  2. I think they will dull down a little after some time in the weather. That appears what has happen to the fey. If you washed and waxed the fey it would probable look a lot like your newly painted one. I got a NOS front bumper and it is about as shinny as your rears. Eggshell, from my experience fades pretty quick. Trucks looking very nice by the way.
  3. Figured I'd close out this thread. Truck got sold awhile back. I've not seen it on the road so don't know it's status. It needed more work than I wanted to put into it so it had to go. Here's a couple of final pics of it. It was fun while it lasted. :(
  4. I can't believe that no one has commented that the MJ really totaled that XJ. :D One tough truck. Very ironic that it was two Jeeps. Even more so that it was an MJ.
  5. Just reading the article and the options listed, it was an 86 Comanche X with a two tone paint job(Black and Silver) and some chrome. It probably did not have any special badging and was more than likely, just something printed on the sticker in the window. Almost sounds like what Larado's looked like in later years. I've seen a couple of pics of the 86 with two tone paint but can't seem to find them at the moment.
  6. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... K:MEWAX:IT Cool thing about this one is you don't have to find the Tach with a shifter window in it.
  7. PM sent.
  8. I was needing one and ended up using one from a 96. Fit in the same spot and appeared to function as it should. Just a thought for you.

    Been awhile

Yep I did. It's build date was 11/91. One of the first things I checked. It will have to wait until I finish some "honey do's". Started some remodeling back in October and still haven't finished. :shake:

Little of this and a little of that. Just kidding. Someone beat me to those $300 used tail lights, but I did manage to get a nice tailgate. It was a pretty basic 2wd LWB pioneer edition MJ with no options. I really hoped it would of had buckets, a center console, and a cargo light. It did surprise me that it was a column automatic(no tach). Other than the tailgate, I pulled the MJ specific interior parts including the seatbelts. Pulled the back window rubber and that oh so hard to find HO sending unit. I also got a few parts for my sons Mazda pickup. Not a bad haul, but I've had better.
  11. It's a Ford color. Dark Shadow Gray Metallic. Can't remember the actual code but I'll see if I can find it in my paperwork.

Only sea time I'll be logging is maybe a cruise ship. :brows: I did manage to lurk around here from time to time. Saw you making a killing on some tail lights. Not quite. Only French I know of is French Fries, French dressing, and French Toast. :D
  13. I really wish that was the case but I had to walk away from all my Jeeps for awhile. I was getting burned out and almost put them up for sale. I'll be making some progress probably by the summer but not too much before then.

    Been awhile

Holy crap. It's been so long since I've posted anything I had to reset my password. I've been busy with other things but I think I'm ready to start thinking Jeeps again. Went to the JY today for the first time in months and picked up a couple of things off a 92 MJ. I'll be putting some stuff up in the classifieds later and trying to catch up on all the cool stuff I've missed on my vacation away from CC. Cheers to all.
  15. You can get it out without removing the bar but it is easier to take it out then put it back in with nuts and bolts. I pulled mine with it in but when I swapped to electric windows, I took them out for better access. If you pull the vent window out and the glass it will make it 100% easier to get it out and back in.
  16. Ones crooked. :D But they do look nice. Was that an ebay score?
  17. Two nice pieces of history. Took awhile to find anything on the M501. Here's a couple of links for those interested. http://www.madracki.com/usarmyhawk/drawings.html http://home.comcast.net/~bcole3/517tharty/BatteryD.htm Oh, and buy the CJ
  18. Kind of the point I was making. Until one rolls through Barrett Jackson, the only love the MJ is going to get is from us old jeep guys. I've seen many done and they still pull down a hefty price at auction. People that just want the look, don't care. It's only your serious collectors that want all the numbers to match. Doesn't that sum up all the MJs  My personal thought on the MJs that I would want to find and pay good money for are: 1. #1 or #100 Street MJ 2. Last MJ to roll of the assembly line. 3. Any Street MJ 4. First MJ to roll off the assembly line but only if I had #2 in my list. *Yes I'd like the Thunder Chief but that will never happen. Plus being label as a prototype it could not be license for the road.*
  19. Only thing on the Laredo package that can't be had on all the other packages is the body trim. Big whoop. Buy it, part it, and enjoy your D44. There's plenty of badges on XJ's if you want a Laredo MJ. Most would not know the difference. Now if it was one of the 100 Street MJs, then I'd be upset if it was parted. Tell the guy he can let it rot, or sell it to you so you can help many other MJ enthusiast with the parts.
  20. Just a thought but the engine idles up when the AC is turned on. Might could look at what signal causes that. Not sure if that is enough for what you want.
  21. All you need is a brick to set on the gas pedal. Just screwing with you Pat.
  22. Just remember to drain any fluids or cap off holes that will let them out.
  23. :agree: Just fixed the manifold leak on project Deer Hunter and no more tick's. Only downside is now I can hear the lifter chatter.
  24. It is used to lower the tire down. Put it in the hole through the rear for the tire winch and then put the crank in it. Most were lost long ago. Oh and thanks mrsinister for the diagram. Saved
  25. Congrats Bob! Even though that 91 should have been mine, I'm glad you got it.
