  1. ya have it, and a intake/exhaust gasket is only $20. I say why not, can't hurt. ya gotta take the intake off to do it though.
  2. the ballast resistor is the ceramic piece on the left side of your engine bay, mounted to the sidewall...one wire in, one wire out.
  3. yep. you probably have 1 idiot light in there somewheres, but if you have the oil pressure gauge and the temperature sensor guage (not idiot light), then it's a direct swap. same year and same motor to be safe, though it will work out of any year renix 4.0 (1990 and previous ...that means 1987)
  4. hahaha, well, project tatersalad is out the door...i needed the tranny for my 3800. uh, then there's project project (89 pioneer shortbed) Turbo Deuce is my dad's turbo diesel...on it's second rebuild gordy is my brother's 87 mj then of course MJ3800 then there was the mj on j10 frame which has since become a diagrammed idea on the computer...that's a fancy for the future the 87 sport truck...which is sold can't think of anything else...my ideas are a bit eccentric if not anal when it comes to building things  ...so if i can't make it perfect (in my eyes), i won't usually do it. exception to that is the black interior in the 3800...i want it so bad that i'm willing to paint parts to work in the meantime.
  5. http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=914369 check that out, it's wicked cool. they made a trailer out of a 4 door cherokee :D I was planning to do that with my tatersalad bed...but now I may decide to use the junk xj body to do it...
  6. haha, NO
  7. yes, I made the driver's side a-pillar work. it required a further cut-down of about 3 inches, but they are identical. I could have used the passenger one, except that it cracked right through the middle of where the oh $#!& handle goes. :-/ no worries, i'll find everything in original black sooner or later.
  8. possible. keep in mind that the upper cable is only used in a case with cruise control...otherwise its a complete cable from transfercase on up. any cherokee cable will work.
  9. hahaha, this is THE best paint you can get for this. i'll type the name tomorrow...i always forget it. but yeah, it's temporary. everything that I've painted will be replaced at first sight of the correct factory colored piece. hence, i cleand the crap outta everything with 100% simple green solution and a scotch pad. end result, it holds up pretty well, and my arms are tired.
  10. this is the exact CB i have it's not quite as clean, and i don't have the power cord for it, but it does work when i hook it up with a set of nipper wires. it's old.
  11. hehe, i'm good with my "free" antenna. i like that word. it rolls off the tongue. everybody now, .... freee ah, that's better. yeah, I don't wanna spend $$$ on an antenna at the moment...need the lift and stuff first so the antenna will come after that. till then i'm stuck with what i've got. for *free*
  12. for 60% of that you sounded to me like the teacher from charlie brown. i don't get it...
  13. :P jeep made it simple. I could be entirely wrong and just have one f*d up truck, but everything but the H.O. gauges worked on it so I am going to assume it's the case. if anyone can correct my previous statement, please do. from what research i've done, that's what i've gleamed and it's proven the case in my case.
  14. not necessarily the truth freerock...tachometers don't run on the number of cylinders typically, they run on an algorithm of beats per rotation...a.k.a. it's like a CPS in a way. basically they pick up a signal and send X signal based on how many rotations there are. that's the real dumbed down version. it would cause some concern if it were a 4.0 vs. a 2.5 in my opinion, but I know that a 2.5 cluster also works in my 86 with the 2.8. actually, I was surprised when i put the camaro engine in that the tach still functioned exactly perfectly.
  15. lostissues, I've put Renix gauge clusters in my 86 2.8 to test them for functioning. they worked. what engine is in the 86? it sure as hell isn't a 4.0 but i'd bet it will work. I say yes. it's always safest to get one from the exact year but since I've tested it probably 7 or 8 different times with gauge clusters, I feel that it's all good.
  16. according to the diagrams, it's green w/tr. it's the same wire that runs from your ignition coil to the firewall harness. second image. sorry for not rotating them. it's the first part of second image. (top or left if it were the right way up) trace the line from the tach and you'll see that it shows as a Green w/tr meaning green with some sort of stripe (white-ish I believe)
  17. I believe it's the white wire leading into the back of the speedo cluster. let me get on alldatapro.com to confirm.
  18. no high output one will work with any renix systems. the fuel gauge will read wrong and the polarity of the gauges is reversed. so that'd mean using newer-style sensors and replacing the fuel gauge one as well. the cluster will work as long as you get the correct sensors.
  19. yes and no. yours is a 4.0 and that's either a 2.5, 2.8, or 2.1. technically you're not supposed to be able to do it. BUT, I have found that as long as it's not a high output gauge cluster, it will work. all you will need is the oil pressure sending unit for a gauge-equipped 87 4.0, and the temperature sending unit for the gauge-equipped 87 4.0 replace any bulbs that look bad, plug it in, and voila.
  20. I plan on mounting a nice metal whip antenna opossite of the am/fm antenna accompanied by a 3 foot magnetic antenna in the middle-rear of the roof. that should allow for plenty of power. how do you calibrate a cb? the 3800 will be getting a very small cobra cb and a 3 foot magnetic whip antenna (felt bottom to save paint), once I get the split rear in it that is...
  21. tomorrow I'm using this diagram to add relays in my [camaro] control center under the hood for the fog lights, @$$hole light i have in the back, and using my 4th switch as a power switch for the fans...to override the computer system being the only thing to turn them on..I'd rather be cooler than not. think I should have one for each fan or just hook it up so that I control only one fan and the computer can control the other/both? anyways, here's more pics of the new black interior. I'm impressed with the vinyl paint on soft vinyl, not so much on the harder plastic type vinyl (trim pieces...they scratch easily as stated above). right after I finished the driver's side blue driver's side stuff removed passenger's side finished passenger side ironically, though I don't necessarily like my dog, he's usually allowed in the truck less than a year old australian shepherd, Jack as you can see, the seatbelts are still blue YET I painted the caps (saved the blue and painted my red ones)
  22. haha, my being away didn't involve an s10. thank GOD. only good thing about an s10 is the 5 speed tranny from the 4.3...it can be used on a 350.
  23. lemme check what i got goin on Wade, idk if I can take off work for that...
  24. see, I KNEW Pete wouldn't leave when he said he would...nothing ever goes right, so I planned it to work. pure genious! thanks Pete, I'll take the big one and if you can get some of the little ones in black for me that would be great. need one for the new addition to the family :D a yamaha TW 200 my bro just picked up...yay streetable dirtbike! I'm getting one, can't be showed up...but his needs a sticker.
  25. I'll get new pics in a minute...I painted my tan B-pillar trim, under-window trim, lower trim, and the passenger side A-pillar (the one you sent me cracked...whatever, I didn't expect either to make it so I'm happy either way :D ), and I also painted the seatbelt male end covers. all of that is installed along with the kick panels (trimmed the driver's side one down so my ebrake would work), and also the defroster vent trim piece is installed. All that is left to change are the seat belts (no black ones...mfpdm can ya help me with that one??? I think I may be able to adapt the cherokee ones to work..), the main dash to black (painting the tan one), the glovebox door and trim, steering column and wheel swapped for black...if I find them (again, mfpdm help??), and recover the carpeted piece in the back to be black. also headliner, overhead console, and visors/clips need to be swapped to black still. yes, I am putting the a/c in still...my heaterbox smells like mice and i'm sick of it, even if i don't put a functional a/c in, it will make it that much better.
