  1. estimated lift? Trying to make final decisions on parts. goal is to SOA the rear, match front lift to rear, and run 33x12.50's with 4 TJ rear flares. a.k.a. fender trimming is OK but not too extreme. anyways, what's the diameter the dana 44 rear axle and what's general consensus on how much lift it really gives?
  2. yeah they do, I have one in my 86 and it's great. but you lose 3" of space on either side of them, and cleaning under them is a big hassle. with the spray in liner, and the original comanche bedmat that I have for the shortbed, denting it won't be a huge deal. I'm gonna be bolting stuff down inside the bed anyways, so I figure it don't matter too much. I should have this thing ready for the badlands, but it may not have a rear bumper or anything like that...I am gonna have to budget like hell just to get the lift components together :( unless either I get a loan, or resort to alot of buys on credit...I only make $2000 a month :( I just hope I can have suspension done by then. body stuff can come later...well, trimming can't but everything else can.
  3. haha, I was half-tempted. but the 3800 is the show truck round here, and I don't really need another one. this is the DD for winter/harsh weather, and offroad rig. plus at 228,000 miles it's hardly worthy of being shown off at shows. I say make things what ya want them to be, and have fun!
  4. ....did you see the rocker panels? how about the rust over the wheel wells? or the gas tank door? them are the ONLY! 3 spots with significant rust. everywhere else is good to go. rocker panels are bad enough that I have to replace them full length on both sides, and passenger side must be replaced behind the pinch seam too (damned side-steps) *shrug* rear flare rust don't bother me, it's easy to replace since this is so minimal, and I'm trimming it out for TJ flares front and rear anyways... which leads me to ask, anyone have a spare set of rear TJ flares?
  5. so I removed the bedliner to see the condition underneath. damned straight :D just needs sanded a bit, and some spray-in liner done. I'm considering paying for spray-in liner for the inside of the bed, and the bottom edge of the truck (after I fix the rust), as it would look pretty badass that way...
  6. thanks. I decided the liability was too great. the $200 xj I got is....salvagable??? as a truggy setup. so I'm gonna practice my longarm building skills on it, as tatersalad HAS to go. (according to my mother). anyways, talking with TNT right now as what they have is a y-arm setup or something like that??? Tryin to get them to tell me the exact price and limit it to just the arms, mounts, coil springs, and trackbar, as I don't need the rest of it and don't want to spend @2k on it. anyone know the EXACT link to their longarm product????
  7. thanks, that is what I was thinking about the waggy front end, but I like the actual grille part of it...looks like the old dodge charger and plymouth challenger with hidden headlights. I found a sealed hi/low beam that matches the hi/lows on the waggy grille, but is in one spot. that means that I can do 4 headlights at a time, OR I can do dual headlights on the top part, and the lower light spots would be where I mount my fogs...which actually isn't too bad of an idea in my opinion.
  8. black out the diamond plate
  9. uh...i don't have the diagram for the factory fog harness, but I do have one. it's powered and grounded via the headlight harness connector...which is behind the front left headlight. the relay should be in the front left corner somewhere. remember though, the interior harness may be there, but the exterior harness may not be...
  10. finally! I'll ttu about when we're doing the swap on the bed and stuff. msn me. btw....u BETTER NOT sell the mj.
  11. any number of sensor problems could be it. personally, I am thinking poor connection to the coil, or dirty CPS. also, throttle position sensor or MAP sensor problems are potential.
  12. hehe, yep, should have it in a few weeks.... :D
  13. nice find, I like it. bondo the rust :brows:
  14. you don't need to get the cargo light harness, the harness is there already but tucked behind the driver's side B-pillar. well, it is on my 86's and the sport I had, not on the 89.
  15. ok. i talked to them, nice guys. gonna buy it on credit (yay got a credit card now...best make use of it ;) as long as i'm responsible about payments) and this sucker will be taking shape in the next few weeks. btw, for those reading this thread, I will still be doint trial-and-error longarms on tatersalad, as I really do want to build my own in the future. buyin the TNT kit is the street legal route....
  16. so...uh...why cut the frame for the TNT longarm? seems easier to cut the longarm mounts and re-inforce them....???? ...but I have access to a plasma cutter sooo maybe that's why :D
  17. haven't done anything else except beef up the bench seat to ride higher...1" higher. I can't stand being so low in the MJ. gotta por-15 the floors, then cut out the bad rockers, por-15 them when I replace them, remove bedliner and see condition of that (plus the guy i got the truck from wants it back), and in a few weeks I will have the new TNT longarm kit.
  18. My buddy's mj doesnt have the headliner, or anything on the backwall. Mine has everything, but I'm thinking of getting rid of a lot of it, and doing the duramat or whatever it's called, and then get some rubber sprayed over that to keep everything completely sealed. As for interior trim, I may just follow that up the sides, and just cover any holes with some diamond plate aluminum. come to think of it, maybe I'll make some custom diamond plate aluminum to trim the cab with. Give it a cool look, but still rugged looking. if you do the diamond plate, seal off any holes etc. first. most point of the interior trim is to keep crap from gettin behind there...and it works.
  19. :agree:  via this route of action, I now know all 11 comanche owners in town ($#!&ty ones included, the number is now less as I've bought their trucks :P ), a comanche enthusiast from Abell's corners on highway 12 near whitewater, WI (who owns 3 mint MJ's and 4 or 5 parts MJ's/XJ's...but doesn't know how to use a computer :( ), a guy from Racine with a nice one, some dudes in milwaukee with them, etc. I don't care who it is, I'll turn around for the truck...it's a comanche. I may get a 91 soon cause I stopped in and looked at it...it flat out beats the rest of them on how bad the rust is, but a Meyer's plow is gonna be given to me for it too...yay plow truck?
  20. My local jeep dealership is owned by a fool, but run by a pretty nice guy...who owns a comanche. I needed a lower cruise control cable, he tracked one down in cincinnati for me, and got it to me for $24 including new upper cable and speed sensor. and he had to resort to microfiche. hes currently looking for a cargo light, and I'm confident that he will find me one.
  21. agreed, wd40 or pbblaster solve the problem quick fast and in a hurry
  22. But road rage points are the best when you hit stuff! lol j/k of course. haha, i'm in enough legal troubles right now...one bad year full of dumb decisions for me. luckily it's not a permanent damper on my life, but right now, I can't afford any police contact...period
  23. They will be removed and painted a semi-flat black. Why bother with removal, taping, etc when you can just remove later down the road and paint them the new color anyways? Plus doing what I did with the flares makes a good mark for a trim line... 8) *shrug* then ya don't have all them extra layers of paint plus chipping when u remove paint. oh well, u and yours, me and mine. p.s. a black marker makes a good marker too. trace the flares :D
