  1. it's worth the suffering IMO. you will get from A to B much faster... as you wish though. I literally know nothing about the 2.5 and 2.8 autos...excpet thhey're pigs and i wouldn't want one
  2. getting an auto trans that's worth putting in it. if you think it has no balls now...just wait.
  3. provided I get a hold of the guy, buy it for the price I know he's told others, find out just how bad the motor is (supposedly blown and a bad clutch), and DD it. body is good except of course fender flares. pass. side door is dented to hell but B piller is pretty good. it's faded really bad. driver's side floor is GONE on both sides of the frame rail, so a real quick job of the floors would be in order. it's about a 90 or 91 2wd 2.5 ax4 with 4.10's and a turdy-5 rear. tires are OK rims are decent, d-shaft ujoints are shot (it's laying half buried in the ground on the bottom side...) but I think that at 143,000 miles and it doesn't appear to leak or have blown a rod, it probably runs pretty good and just has a blown clutch plate (told it makes "grinding noises" when it used to run, and it won't drive) again though, I can't pass the deal up for the price. it would eventually become the full mod offroader with a d60 front, 340 and auto, 14 bolt or d60 rear...you get it.
  4. first thing. remove the topper (so you can see the bed better) and rear fender flares to see how bad the bed really is. also get under and check the floors. it needs a good cleaning I guarantee that. do that too. and get rid of the bug deflector, please please please
  5. who told you? damn... the price is right. so I can't resist. especially when the canyon rims are worth more than I'm paying for the whole thing...
  6. you're gonna hate me.
  7. it's easy to hook up. someone on here did a good writeup on it...use 1 cable clamp per side, and one of those teardrop cable guides to wrap it around the control for the e-brake. cut your spring down so it will still fit in there and give you a "return" and call it a day. it's a $12 project at most.
  8. pics?
  9. hmm...no, I'm a Jeep fan. the new "jeeps" are not jeeps. they're like comparing a set of oakley sunglasses to the $15 Jokely's you get at the fair. they're just not the same. that doesn't encompass the wrangler body-style I do like it. but I say again, while the gladiator is a great concept and cool design, the engine choice was at best poor, and the fact that Jeep doesn't have a plant that could even be outfitted to build the long gladiator frame (which is also at best poor construction) kinda irks me. they couldn't retrofit it to do so in a year if they WANTED to. so IF they go into production, it will be limited the first year. during that year they'd be "hand built" or built on a small time assembly line. during that time they'd be retrofitting one of their old wrangler manufacturing plants to build the gladiator...that would mean ordering new custom built machinery to accomodate the quite LONG wheelbase and frame dimensions of that jeep. that's the longest jeep that Jeep has thought of producing in the last 20 years, if not longer. now, I like the body style but it needs a solid roof or sunroof, no ghey little "access" door on the driver's rear cab side, I like the bedside spare, and a bigger diesel...I wouldn't even buy or test one if it were gas powered. so no, I don't hate jeeps. I hate the people IN CHARGE of jeep. I'm a jeep fan. they're just getting a paycheck to ruin everything that Jeep is and was.
  10. check the "TRE" on your trackbar. mine is loose and that's definitely the problem
  11. lol, not really...I may need them on the 89.... pm me an offer though. I have use for them on the 89 and my diesel, but idk....:D now, the willys grille. THAT is DEFINITELY for sale. I have zero use for it. oh, the guy is gonna be sellin me his 340 and auto trans (Idk what they are really) but they're set up for high power etc... combine those with a dana 60 front and gm 14 bolt rear, on a 1991 shortbed (used to be a 4 cylinder 2wd 4 speed), with say, rockhard's tires....:D oh, that's another thing. I'm trying to get another manche...it will be dirt cheap if only i could get a hold of the damned guy.
  12. thanks for the TON of them that you sent me Pete I've used several already... :D
  13. yea...shims...where are them? and I have not 1 but 2 jeeps that have their rims/tires "splayed out" on the front end. the 3800 it's more on one side than the other...so an axle replacement will be happening. on the 89, well, it is fairly noticeable....
  14. you don't need to swap axles. you need the ENTIRE xj chassis so that you can yank things and literally lay them directly into the comanche chassis...otherwise you'd have a mess of parts and you won't know where to put them. a first time swapper should pobably not just acquire all the parts seperately...which you technically could do...but buy a cherokee that runs and drives and has the parts you need. better yet if the cherokee is a collision or rust bucket...then you don't feel half as bad.
  15. the 2.5 is tbi so no why would you even want to?
  16. You and your dad were sitting there talking about your new HD tv all weekend and your still on dialup? Yeah it's a rather large file. "Right click, save as" and let it download for a few hours and come back later. ;) i think that you are exaggerating just a little on the HD TV thing. i doubt it... :P
  17. I've never done that swap so I can't say. I can tell you it took me approximately 16 days to stuff a camaro 3800 engine in my comanche with little help from others...and that included custom exhaust, motor mounts, AND putting in a 4.0 radiator and lower support. you're not customizing anything. so I'd say less than 2 weeks of full days. I'd say a good 4 weekends at most plus one for troubleshooting. trust me, it's worth it.
  18. I've already done the latter...going to go get info on one and pick it up later this week, and I got a lineup on yet another one
  19. welcome. don't forget you need the shift linkages for the np231 t-case from that 94 xj, you will have to pull the dash out to swap that wiring, and splice the rear tail lights back into the xj interior wiring. and you'd need to lay the 4.0 wiring down in the engine compartment before putting the engine in. it's not as hard as it sounds...it will require some drilling/welding on the header panel to put the 4.0 one in, but then after a few beers the rest of the project goes pretty smoothly...not a 1 weekend project, but can be done in a few weekends. you will also need either an inline fuel pump that puts out the correct psi for the HO 4.0 or you will need a tank off a 91 or 92 comanche (those wer high output) and the sending unit for that...the 2.5 one won't work and the cherokee one doesn't fit.
  20. I am not certain what CL is like in other parts of the Country, but here in the San Francisco Bay Area it is like the star wars bar. People post up products fake or real, I know of people getting robbed of their playstation 3's and such. Then there are the tire kickers that are the equivalent of the Jawa's on starwars, I really feel for the guy when one comes out to see him and offers him $100 for the truck. ;) you just watched it didnt you
  21. 94xj would work. you need to use the t-case FROM the 4.0 so that will throw out the np205 you have... the 94 is a High output so you're makin a good bargain on power with that swap :D only thing you will need to have custom made may be the rear driveshaft...but you can probably find one or yours may work. I'm not sure how different the tranny lengths are.
  22. we gonna get pics of anything else? :brows:
  23. uh...4 cyl is the 2.5, 2.8 is the v6
  24. you can't keep the 4 speed. it won't bolt up to the 4.0 you need a donor vehicle, it's header panel so you can fit the 4.0 engine in, and all the wiring for the 4.0. that's inside and out of the cab. then drop the 4.0 and the entire 4.0 drivetrain in the truck.
  25. i judge by EVERY other jeep in current production first. the jk/s and rubicons can still be made into SOMETHING.
