I was thinkin of buying a tracker for wheeling actually... hahaha lmao just kidding. you're right of course, 'cept right now the xj is almost as done as it will be before winter...I don't want to drive the 3800 much more this year, so gotta finish it :D -

I very much want that..problem is idk how much $$$ I can spend, nor do I know if this thing will end up as a serious offroader yet...? -
where can I get woody trim from?
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's the right look, but at only 60" you would end up with a seam on the box side. But a call to them may yield a longer piece.... HA! yeah, not at their going prices. f*k that. -
IDC what you try, you're not getting it out with the crossmember bolted to the frame. get a breaker bar ($5 at menards for a cheapo), a correct sized socket (14,15,or 16 mm most likely), and pull. if you break the heads off the bolts, oh well. on a comanche there are 8 so the loss of 2 is insignificant. hopefully you can still retain 3 on each side. but as I say, you won't get the tranny out of there with the crossmember intact.

I'm contemplating putting the waggy grille on my 86 xj, with woody trim down the sides. were i to do that, I could clean up the 1 rust spot on the door, and clean up the bottom edge nicely, and cover up any blemishes that it has. so, I was wondering, where could I get it?

Are all rear MJ windows the same size?

the swap entails a tranny swap, you'll need the clutch, flywheel, throwout bearing, throwout plate, slave (get an external), master, shift linkage, and an ax5 tranny mount. you'll need a pedal assembly from a comanche or cherokee, a yj one won't work. I have an assembly for you $15 plus shipping, minus a m/c but that's no biggy. the crossmembers are the same, just may be in a different location. (holes are there). other than that it should be fairly bolt-in, and I would do it sooner rather than later, as you'll improve the gas mileage and help save $$$ for the 4bt swap.
-
all that and you'll have power locks, windows, a/c, cruise, seats, and all the good stuff to go with that too :D

....the 2.5/2.8 MJ/xj driveshaft is actually one of the shorter shafts. I know mine are nowhere near as long as that of a 4.0 in any way (tried to put it in a 4.0 and it was too short)
-
I agree. thing is, mine is worth (since it's a 20 year old 2wd 2.8 longbed with a 5 speed and no options to speak of right, and it's in the rust belt to boot) something like $1500 they figure. but it's not any of those things. they offered to just pay me $2000 to total it tho....yea, great, 7,000 into it. i don't get a 100% guarantee on buyback. some lucky chap could end up with a 86 comanche, with some dents and scratches, that has all the rare parts, and a 96 camaro motor. like that's gonna happen. so eagle, you are spot on.

10-4 on that Tim, how about friday night? or saturday sometime in the afternoon? I'm registering the cherokee on friday and insuring it too, so once I bleed the clutch properly it should work. -
it shouldn't be a problem to cover the plate when towing a trailer...assuming the trailer has a plate, they can still figure out who it is (unless it's a borrowed trailer). but...were it me, just to avoid any potential conflict, i would make the plate flip up instead of down.

anyone know where I could get one of them economy gauges? porsche 944 has an integrated one...but I'd like a seperate one, to see how acurate they are.

turkey-day isn't for another month and a half here :D

a few weeks ago a kid backed into the side of my longbed and crushed it in behind the rear left fenderwell all the way to the tail light, it's estimated extremely high at $2300 with a new bedside. insurance company said it would be totaled, being a 21 year old truck...and said that the buyback option would be first come, first serve. the couldn't guarantee I'd get it back. I explained to them the mint, restored, rebuilt condition of the truck, and the fact that the oldest thing in it is the 96 camaro engine, and the original upholstered seats..and they changed their tune. a price adjuster is coming out this week, so we'll see what happens. but accidents suck, and I've learned that I can't DD my 3800 MJ anymore because it's got too much investment, both sentimental and money-wise.
-
hell tim, that's the way to do it man!
-
that's a fricking shame. nice truck, I hope she's ship-shape in no-time. it seems toe be his liability :D

glad to have my partner in crime back.

everything on the truck works too, except for the driver's rear door lock solenoid, the fog lights, rear interior light, and the most important part....the clutch :( it feels like I've got pedal, but when watching the reservoir (cap open), the fluid level doesn't change. the pedal doesn't come all the way up either...just like halfway. anyone have any ideas on this? I'm (sheepishly) thinking that I didn't get the throwout plate set correctly after we had to pull the motor back to remove one of the alignment things on the block, and the slave might not be completely on it? pics... it actually sits pretty level now too :D and crazy mad props to correy and wade for their help, it was a good thing they were there :D -

engine is now in, she runs, and drives. there's a vacuum leak, so it does idle somewhat choppy...it's from the vacuum hose that goes to the cruise control, I just have to find it... I had to put the a/c components on, because the alternater hookups were different and doing cross-wiring today didn't seem like fun. kinda sucked to switch cause of a froze bolt, and it was a basket case system that I had to go through and figure out what goes where. I also didn't want to buy a new serpentine, since the one on the non-a/c system was brand new by the PO and they're $32 each. anywho, that took awhile to figure out...there's no idler pully on the a/c equipped ones, and that seemed wierd to me. I just now realized that I didn't hook up the charging lead from the battery to the alternator, so it's not charging...gonna have to do that in the AM. have to swap in the correct temp. sending unit, oil works fine. basically just little things, clean her up, and new windshield then she's ready to go. -
'nother pic of the rollbar to be modded and installed
