  1. damnit. went to help Geonovast this weekend, and dad was working on stitching up the frame so I could build the reinforcement bracket. he ended up melting the fuel sender line so that it leaked, and a bit of the return line. they were plastic lines (about 3 feet long) and he melted them with his shop light (on accident) so I put rubber high pressure line in instead now, and while I was doing that, I relocated my wiper fluid reservoir using a 4.0 style. here's some pics I now have enough room to relocate my intake into the front driver's side corner. I'll be building a seperate compartment there that's completely sealed off so it only sucks in clean air from the headlight area. so the frame is somewhat stitched up, there's a bit left to do but the trackbar bracket has to come off...and it needed to get out of the shop today cause Dad's parting out a tractor and putting the bucket loader from it onto another tractor. I'll get the frame finished tomorrow I hope. also bought new swaybar links for it as I broke one of them when I took the swaybar off so we could get up in there.
  2. yep you can cut them, but it'll look terrible. if he says it looks like 7 slots, it's probably an 8 slot grille. I have one, and the leather wasn't wrapped up...just boxed. so he could have easily pulled it out to see
  3. I traded a rusty 95 2 door 4.0 auto xj for my 86 4 cyl xj, a 90 rustbox 4.0 auto xj, and an 85 4 cyl xj wagoneer. the 90 will be the donor...it has newer ball joints and wheel bearings, just needs 1 bushing and both ujoints, then the trans is ready to go too...
  4. I went and visited Correy today, we had intended to install the tranny, but 5th gear wasn't working properly (he can explain it...it was so dumb lol), and he got everything rigged right but wasn't working properly still. so I came, tapped the shifter linkage with a hammer, worked my magic, and took about 30 seconds to get 5th shifting :D anyways, we didn't get the tranny in. the rest of the day was spent pricing out ball joints (turns out the ones on his front end are bad), getting 2 uppers and 1 lower (other lower is in on wednesday), and getting the tool to do it from his dad...then realizing that neither of us know how. so, as it's not too bad yet and will still get him from A to B with little trouble, we left it rather than risk screwing it up to a point that he couldn't drive it. anyways, got the tranny completely finished, and put the np231 front yoke on the np207 t-case because his t-case was for a CV shaft and we wanted the ujoint shaft (I gave him one for a 2.5/2.8). so that's done, he has the stuff for ball joints and I think?...it will get done this week. also picked up new line for the clutch slave since we're converting it from an internal to an external. so got that somewhat bent, and will finish bending after the trans. is up in there. we're installing the trans. next sunday, we have the proper measurements of the 2 trannys, and he's going to have the difference taken out of the spare 2wd shaft I brought him. then it will be all 100% bolt-in.
  5. lol. so how'd you get yours to work throw off a bright enough beam?
  6. how much are we talking about here? here's the thing...it was $40 for these lights shipping included. if this turns into a $70 project for focking headlights, I'm getting my money back. I asked if this was a problem before I bought. was told no.
  7. well, terminal 87 and 87a mimic each other so that would be a left and right. could I supply hi-beams with just one relay, say a 30 amp, and low-beams with just one relay, same amp? I mean supply both lights from one relay?
  8. geonovast says it looks like it has no soul. the title of that build is now Evil XJ.
  9. hmm I like that idea. so it would have one battery power source, one ground, 2 input (power on's for the hi/lo), and 2 output (hi/lo again) wires? where would I get that. dumb ??? lol, but I've never seen a 2 position relay.
  10. I plan on tinting the turn signal lights to limo tint (or somewhere a bit lighter), and painting the corner markers black
  11. I got a set of H4 headlights for my 86 xj. they're black and pretty cool actually. anyways, these are dark headlights. actually my fog lights are brighter. I tested them out hooked directly to a battery and they were brighter. so obviously they just need more juice. the plan is to run one relay per headlight, per "position". so that's 4 relays. one each for low beam, one each for high beam. I'll use the factory wiring to turn the relays on, relays will be supplied by direct power to a fusible link. would that suffice? do I only need 2 relays, or is 4 better? I think supplying each headlight with it's own power will ensure it's got juice. also, should I ground the relays to the stock wiring harness ground or should I just do away with that ground all together? or ground the relays, and keep the headlight itself grounded through the stock harness (second one's a no-no IMO) ideas?
  12. moving the needles shouldn't hurt. just be gentle, don't just yank them. I'd move them as little as possible tho.
  13. haha. purple rollbar + warm and fuzzy (also known as ghey) yep it's a kyle petty sticker...courtesy of the PO of that truck. that truck is scrap. rollbar is in the barn waiting for it's debut on the 3800 dressed in black, and with a set of square fogs that match my original front fogs except letter JEEP one letter on each cap.
  14. I may need front axle, tranny (and transfercase), front driveshaft, and 4x4 shift linkages from you then. gotta finalize details with the guy. what would you want for all of that? I could come help pull it
  15. how many miles are on that xj? what gears does it have in the rear axles? ...I'm gonna be doing a 4wd swap for a guy soon, and what i have has 252xxx miles on it so if I can get something with lower miles that would be great.

    4X4 BURNOUT

honestly, I'd be impressed if the guys weren't a bunch of dumb@$$es who just threw away half a grand worth of tires. and NO this is NOT a 4x4 burnout. I stopped watching after 1/4 of it cause it was a waste of my time.
  17. dayum! that was in pretty decent shape! working out some more details on the whole thing once he takes delivery of the MJ this week. prolly won't do the swap right away since he has umpteen 4wd j-trucks anyways...
  18. sounds like we need a lil pow-wow!!!! irnoically enough, the 'rents have enough land for that...not anything for offroading though but we could solve that :P beer and brats at my house! now we need a date set. and when it's warmer too. :D
  19. did ya try unlocking it ;) it's probably locked and the hardwar is disconnected to unlock it
  20. haha, that baja cherokee looks like a 4 door too did ya notice? it's a 2 door :D
  21. wade, yep. still workin out details. i can do a front axle in less than 5 hours...including removal of the old one. obviously it'd take a couple more to do the joints etc. tranny removal and install takes less than 7 hours. so I figure round 20 hours of work on it, plus supplying the parts (already have everything if I part out my 90 cherokee). and you're riht, I'd build a custom bracket so i don't have to remove the carpet to install the shifter...or if I have to pull the carpet anyways I'd just install the bracket the stock way. all that and I probably wouldn't have to supply any of the new parts as he gets them through work...
  22. looking at his collection...he has my dad's old j-truck (dad never got around to building it) it's an 82 with a razor grille, shortbed from california so no rust. there's no motor and 2 complete matching interiors. he has a 6.5 turbo diesel chevy van that's been chopped in the back over there too...maybe I should try for that one. a diesel j10 would be nice, but I don't need another project
  23. not rebuilding the aw4....just the front axle ujoints, ball joints, etc.
  24. how much would you charge to do a complete 4wd swap on a comanche? a friend / the operator of the local jeep dealership just got a 91 2wd sport that's pretty nice and wants it converted to 4wd. it's a 4.0/auto. I supply parts (trans, t-case, axle, front d.s., shift linkage) and he pays for all new parts to rebuild said parts, as well as an OEM 4wd swb rear driveshaft for said comanche (he tracked one down and bought it). I'm wondering how much my charge should be? it would be quite a bit of time involved (he also wants me to repair the 1 small rust hole on the floor, and one side of the bed has some surface rust that needs attention). he'd have it painted by the guy who does paint at his shop. he collects J-trucks but has too many, and quite a few rust-free ones. we came to a sort of agreement that I would do it in trade for a J-truck (so he could get the wife off his back) with a v8. would that seem like a good deal? it's practically rust free and the front fenders are his own fiberglass ones (he had molds made) that need respray. I believe it's an 81. there's quite a few more to chose from as well...
  25. I'd say return the battery for an exchange. being an optima, they will do it.
