nope. then i'd KNOW he's a terrorist. terrorists try to cover it up. idiots remain oblivious to the fact that durka durka names make us all edgy

lol. it went fine...i only had to weld a couple of washers to the metal, and you can hear how it's welding. mind you, i'm NOT a welder and am not very good at it

it's grit in my eyes...i didn't get flash burn (thank god) because i got the grit out of them ;) face still hurts, and i'm not going to weld any time in the near future. at all.

 so, yesterday I was working on the 87 MJ and needed to weld a couple washers to my cheapo UCA's...and I did. but, i didn't have a proper welding mask 8) as my dad brought that to work with him. so, i used a torch mask and that didn't work...put it away. don't have welding goggles, so i just closed my eyes and gave her hell...always being careful not to look towards the weld, and not start until my eyes were closed. so, i'm a dumbass. my face is burnt even though i was looking away. then, i ground down the welds using a bench-mount which has a wire wheel and a fine grinding wheel. for that, I DID put on safety glasses. i didn't notice anything get in my eyes at all, didn't feel anything. went up to the house real late, went to sleep around midnight, woke up at 2:30am with tears running and a stuffy nose, and something gritty in my eyes. damn. couldn't get it out with eye drops or anything, tried flipping my eyelids and wiping since they weren't on my eye. couldn't get it. so i decide to take a bath and see if i can clear my eyes by dunking and blinking. needless to say, this didn't work...well (it did help) and i decided taking a bath and reading a book might help...using my eyes would cause my eyes to water, thus helping to flush out the junk. that actually worked a bit, then flipped lids finished it off. stupid grinding wheel grit got me. for awhile there i was thinking i burned my cornea with flash, but that didn't make any sense because i didn't even look at the flash...thank god it's not. anyways, moral of the story, use proper safety equipment and save yourself the trouble. it's 4:45am and i'm going to bed now to wake up at 7:30am :headpop:

use comanche main leafs and bastard-pack them using ford 8.8 leafs, dakota leafs, and fullsize wagoneer leafs. just play around with a few different sets until you're happy with it. you shouldn't be considering add-a-leafs though. they suck already, and won't help much with the lift in.

Project: DD MJ (Updated: 10/06/09)
JeepcoMJ replied to LoTGoD's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
TJ shifters are direct bolt-on -
front end is complete, transmission complete. new rear driveshaft cost $200 to build plus $40 for the shafts i based it off of...having a spare shaft made at half cost as a trail spare. picking them up tomorrow AM all that is left is finish welding the rear axle perches, plumb rear brake lines, and I'm installing most of the interior tonight. oh, I did a quick fix on my old UCA's...as a result, the front axle sits around 1" farther forward than it should. that will be remedied with the new arm system i'll install. done by tomorrow night

swb 4.0 auto 44 rear SYE rear driveshaft ???
JeepcoMJ replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
combined a '73 waggy auto 360 equip rear slip-shaft with a front xj shaft to get what i needed... 45-1/4" is what the driveshaft needed to be mid-slip. -

REAR WINDOW REPLACEMENT?
JeepcoMJ replied to smithe1811's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i've NEVER come across one that wasn't epoxied in, from factory. that rear rubber is just a centering tool and for aesthetics...it should be glued in, unless this magic seal you pulled your JY window with is still good. installing them SUCKS -
thanks! take out the shifter cage for it. actually, it should work as it is but you'd need to put a different indicator on it so it said 4hi locked or whatever. as for the grille...sorry, it stays :P. i'm blacking out the upper, lower and side trim as well as the bezels though. the only things that will be chrome will be the 21 slot grille, and the mirrors. oh, got a complete tan interior out of a combination of a 95 xj and a 88 mj to install in it, with 95 seats (to be installed as time allows). cool thing is, i've found an EASY mod to make XJ front seatbelts work in an MJ. it's as simple as flipping around the hardware on the belt, and drilling one hole.

yup, completely bolt-in. i LOVE it. other news, it's on all 4 tires now, and the mexicans who tried to fix it before filled the radiator with water (stupid untrained technicians  ) and apparently the reservoir doesn't like that when you shut it off.... brought it outside. despite what the pics show, the front is about .25" shorter than the rear. now I have to plumb the rear brakes and front brakes, build the UCA's that will be in it, bolt everything on the front axle up tight, and put the interior in. piece of cake :D

transmission installed completely, axle perches are welded, just need to install the exhaust, front bumper, and finish the front axle and control arms put a TJ shifter in...man is it nice. around 2" higher than a factory shifter, and the indicator is right on it. i'm just putting a shift boot around it so i don't have to put a console in.
-
can't wait to see the end results. THANK YOU for cutting the tail gate back out...i didn't like it molded in. any pics of the rear axle?
-
whoa whoa whoa... that lincoln 115 is too small to weld properly to an axle. you won't get enough heat to properly penetrate...
-
maybe it's just me, but from how you talk about welding, I don't think you should be welding.
-
well the tranny is in, putting in cooling lines now, i cut myself with the exacto knife while cutting the line to re-crimp it. pretty good too on my left middle finger  (hard to type now...)1 installed my shift linkages as well and find that the TJ shifter works GREAT and is a direct bolt-on and much nicer with the indicator built in.
-
installed the header panel and finished adjusting the fenders as well. now it needs the headlight on the passenger side, a new chrome strip on the bottom, and the bezels. installing the trans, 4wd shifter linkage, and finishing the rear axle before noon tomorrow, then I need to do some running around to get the new front axle parts (ball joints, ujoints, wheel bearings) and exhaust from TNT, and get that all installed. from there, should be pretty easy work...just clean floors and maybe rhino-line them or something, and install the interior and new heater box.
-
thanks. here are some pics. the tranny is currently out, and I'm putting together the 95 4wd tranny with 87 TC and new TC seal, installing it, then adding the t-case and shift linkages. this is the a-pillar gauge pod with trans temp gauge that I will be running. ubolts and spring perches SOA begins axle in, perches are not yet welded (waiting on trans to set angle for SYE t-case) pics of it as it will sit "complete" back to the working...
-
the rear is set up, I just need to find the pinion angle after I install the transmission, do brakes, and the rear is done. front axle needs the ball joints done. the parts I got were sub-standard and I don't want to use sub-standard parts. anyways, tranny and rear will be done today, then I'm building the front control arms in the morning and putting it together. that's the last of the serious issues :D
