Installing New Speedo Gear
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
take the part that says "such numbers encompassing 37" (i.e. 32-38, 35-42, whatever it says) and align it to the BOTTOM clip on the retaining clip. this retaining clip will sit directly into the notch centered at the "such numbers encompassing 37" part and also seat in the notch 180 degrees from that notch. -
gave the keys to my bro and took the keys for this p.s. I don't know why anyone complains about lost visual clearance from a snorkel...it didn't hinder my vision at all (matter of fact, I could only see the very top...the end tube intake thingy lol)
-
the only differences I can guarantee are that the throttle body has two more vacuum holes in the 86...so you may need to swap those. I also believe the intake is different. I had an 86 cherokee that I put an 88 motor (88 intake and TB) and really only had to tee two vacuum lines (can't remember to what)in so literally the same swap the other [slight] difference may be the oil pressure and temperature sending units. you may have to swap those...i cannot guarantee this (unless the 88 had dummy and the 86 has gauges...then it's a guaranteed necessity). you will need to buy oil filters for an 88 motor after the install...they changed the oil filter adapter in 87. the transmissions are the same. buy a clutch while you're at it, seperate the transmissions (outside the truck), and install a new clutch. all other sensors are the same, as is the injector on the throttle body. motor mounts are the same. thermostat housing SHOULD be the same water pump SHOULD be the same. everything else serpentine wise is either the same or interchangeable. I would just stick with everything off the 88 motor and complete the switch to serpentine (unless it's already a late 86 production with serpentine) -Pat

accurate except for the FACT that MJ's were never produced as a 1985 model year. like most cars, it debuted before 86 in late 1985 BUT was a 1986 model.

$200 for what? 2 spring perches? a parking brake cable kit? matching yolk? I don't think that he is taking into account the fact that you can buy a late 90's 8.8 with discs straight from the yard for $200

Installing New Speedo Gear
JeepcoMJ replied to SuperWade2's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i got a 37 already....was just making sure its the right one http://gojeep.willyshotrod.com/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm according to that chart, it's PERFECT and you can swap gear drive shafts if you have one with a short shaft and one with a long shaft. -
I COMPLETELY agree. the only thing, for off-road trucks, is that I ALWAYS remove the dust shields. however, with rear discs you can't really remove the dust shield if you want to keep crap from getting inside the drum parking brake assembly.
-
I'll take three. any chance of making one longer like a long bed? not a big deal I'd like them all raw unfinished. gonna paint them to match my trucks james750...how about making a mini comanche tailgate, or a complete rear view and a complete front view of our trucks (the front view you can also sell to cherokee guys btw)

Need ideas for my gas tank issue.
JeepcoMJ replied to bucketheadben's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
um. I'm pretty sure the 97-01 cherokee still had a return line....so you NEED to use it if that is the case. personally I would find the 91-92 fuel pump and sending unit. if you use the renix sending unit your fuel gauge will read backwards, if at all. -

yup that easy. pay attention to don on this type of topic. he does know his performance $#!&. it's just like using a renix fuel pump with a H.O. motor...the regulator adjusts pressure accordingly. I did this with no issues...the only reason I swapped to a H.O. pump/sender is that my fuel gauge now works properly without me having to dick with a ton of POT ratings and stuff that I don't understand. -
Those D@mn Interior Lights...
JeepcoMJ replied to Catatonic Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
dude, I thought it was a pic of the light you were getting. simple attempt to keep you from getting screwed and ending up with the same part you have, in the same shape. not to mention that I've refurbished around 10 sets of these and scrapped twice that many SETS because of that exact breaking issue. I went by a picture supplied, on knowledge I have. trying to help, not trying to be a fool. I'm sorry that I tried to help. -
Most Comfortable Stock Bucket Seat?
JeepcoMJ replied to 88XJSport's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
the leather laredo bolsters HANDS DOWN the most comfortable seats ever. those are in my bro's "new" xj. I'm looking for these seats for my wheeling truck now, only in tan instead -
Those D@mn Interior Lights...
JeepcoMJ replied to Catatonic Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
uhm. not to worry you. but it looks to me like the plastic clips on the one in the image are broken off on the right side. if that's the case, ask for your money back. I can provide a picture of a good set for you for proof. what's wrong with the ones you have now? are the clips broken? or they just don't work? if they just don't work, it's pretty easy to make them work. pop the lens out, wire brush the connections, and use a small file on them for added security. then stainless steel the chrome trim ring, and clean the inside of the lens. -
tim, how's your recovery going? and just because you can't work on it, doesn't mean that I can't come and do the work while you guide me to what you want done! I'm busy this weekend but more than willing to spend a weekend on it the following.
-
and my message to him; Do you always steal pictures of people's jeeps WITHOUT ASKING THEM? I know the owner of that jeep PERSONALLY and have helped him work on it many times. I wheel with him regularly, and he has NOT granted you permission to use his pictures. Ask first. you want to do it the right way? joing http://comancheclub.com/forums and send 89eliminator a personal message ASKING for permission. Shame on you, making money off of other people's hard work...he's worked his @$$ off to build that rig, and NOT for someone like you to extort. -Pat

Thanks. I tried to find tan/sand camo...that's what I wanted. but I can't really find it anywheres. I'll keep looking because it really is what I'd prefer. definitely going camo...if I don't find tan by this weekend, I'm using this camo (for now)...I have 3 MJ headliner backing boards anyways so I could always make this one, and sell it when I find the right camo. right now, I'm sick of the tinny sound of the truck with no headliner...and I'm certainly not putting up the OHC without one. btw the seats are going to be swapped out for my tan 85 cherokee wagoneer seats...I'm gonna put that fabric on a set of 2dr xj frames I have. or...I have a couple sets of MJ buckets around here that are tattered and could use some re-upholstery

use a 91-92 H.O. comanche fuel pump and sending unit. it puts out enough pressure to run your 99 xj properly. hell, a renix fuel pump works just fine as well, but will make your fuel gauge read backwards -
:rotfl2: :clapping:  haha. I'm now thinking of doing the A-pillar, B-pillar, and rear trim in it, painting the lower trim camo green, doing the bottom part of the center console in the camo but leaving the tan lid, and leaving the tan mini console, and leaving the dash tan as wade just got done saying to me... Wade: just do the whole interior JeepcoMJ: bahaha JeepcoMJ: yeah that with wood grain would be SWEET Wade: than u can wear full camo. JeepcoMJ: haha JeepcoMJ: people won't see me driving   :rotfl2:

no offense JT...but ugh. it looks like atari took over that fabric.
-
I'm putting this fabric in my MJ with this interior this is for my headliner/over head console btw any opinions?

How to hook up power windows?
JeepcoMJ replied to tmmoll's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
you can use the older style door hinges no problem. -
haha. the 3800 had an ax5. it couldnt handle my right foot. this one has a 170k mile transmission, that I got from a guy for free, who wheeled the piss out of it. when I got it, I had to swap the valve body from the old 2wd trans that was in the truck just to make it work...it was only a matter of time. but yes, my right foot doesn't help.
-
might have cooked the trans...and the rear tires :brows: just a reason to put my 90k mile trans in it :D
