I have an 89 MJ with a 94 4.0 engine, it's still the renix system. It's been running perfect till yesterday, when I came to a large hill I noticed it had lost power. I could put it in neutral and it won't rev over about 2500, feels like it's not getting gas. I replaced the fuel filter and the pump today, didn't affect it at all. Any ideas would be apprieciated, thanks

Naxja Cherokee Crawl, Tellico
hackedmj replied to 87manche's topic in Adventure Planning / Regional Groups
I was there in the other Comanche Saturday, had a blast. Gotta give you credit for driving that distance, beating it that hard, then driving back. I thought only the Toyota guys are suppose to be able to do that :D . -
Nice looking truck! like the Moabs on Comanches. Where did you get the vinyle flooring ?

Project "Eliminator"
hackedmj replied to 89eliminator's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Awesome job! I recently picked up a red 89 eliminator 2wd that looks like yours when you started. I'm rounding up stuff to do a 4wd conversion. Nice too see how good my truck can look if I finish it. Beautiful truck, keep up the good work! -
2WD MJ to 4WD Help me pick the trans/case
hackedmj replied to hackedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
All the drivetrains and vehicles are autos, What's IIRC? What about the computer in the truck for the tranny, think it'll work with the newer tranny? thanks guys. -
I'd like to tag along also, Tellico is my stomping grounds, never wheeled anywhere I like better. I'll head for the mountains at anytime. :D

2WD MJ to 4WD Help me pick the trans/case
hackedmj replied to hackedmj's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The 98 drivetrain is from a 4.0 XJ. The 87 drivetrain is from a 4.0 MJ. -
Here's what I have. An 89 MJ 2WD 4.0 auto 108k miles. I have a non disco HP 30 for the front, that's decided. The dilema is the trans and case. I have a complete trans and 231 case from an 87 with 200k miles(I've never drove). I also have a trans and 231 case from a 98 with around 100k(I've drove and know to be good). Both setups are from 4.0 engines. I would like to use the 98 stuff for the lower milage. What problems will I run into putting the newer trans/case setup into the older Jeep? Should I just use the older setup and call it good? Any opinions or advise would be great, thanks

Nice video, Even though 9 is one of the easier trails at Tellico it's still my favorite. I wheel with a friend that has an MJ on 33's, it steps over that ledge at the top of 9 so effortlessly it's jaw dropping.

he definately was asking alot more than scrap price for the gate, it would ony be worth a few bucks as scrap

Neat looking MJ, that's a keeper :-D

I think it would be an awesome swap to put the entire late model drivetrain into a Comanche, you'd have to swap everything, harness and all , it should be a pretty much bolt in deal. Then you'd be back to 56k miles 8)

Nice resto job! That reminds me of when I used to drive a tow truck, got a call to pickup up an Pontiac van on the interstate. When I pulled up, two guys had the hatch opened and where sitting on the back of the van, they looked like they had been fighting, both where sweating(it was about 100 degrees that day) and dirty, looked mad and one guy had bleeding knuckles. They explained they just had a flat and couldn't get the spare out and would need towed. I looked under the van at the spare, the wheel had been beat and pryed with the lug wrench as they trying to get the metal piece to fit through the center of the wheel. The guys were almost in a rage while explaining their predicament, cursing GM for designing the spare holder. They already had the side cover off inside the cargo area, so I didn't say a word, just pulled out the tool slipped it in the hole above the bumper and started cranking, they were watching quietly until they saw the spare gently floating to the ground. Now how do they expect us to know that the owner said, still red faced? I just pointed to the jack instructions they had been sitting right next waiting for me to get there. haha I think they were both embarrassed. In the few months I spent driving a wrecker, I saw more stupidity than in the rest of my life lol.

I was wondering the same thing lol.

Welcome Duffer, Got questions?, Fire away, someone here will probably have the answer and be glad to help a fellow Jeeper!

Well, after some looking I think it's the late 80's to early 90's volvo 740 and 760. The axle is a custom peice, but uses a D30 pumpkin. Thus, the carrier can be pulled and used in the front D30. You might have to modify your axleshafts slightly (that sounds ominous) although the spline count is the same, at 27. I'm pretty sure they just meant grind a bit off the end of the splines for the 'modifying' thing. That's all I got for you, for now. Wow! a Volvo, that would have been the last place I would have thought to look for D30 stuff.

There's a company(can't remember the name) selling a scrambler style top for the unlimited TJ. I think it looks better than the brute, probably not as much cargo space but definately looks sharp.

I think I've been on the old wagon road your speaking of that goes over the mountain to Andrews, nice scenic ride. Do you have any directions to squaly from Robinsville, I've been wanting to check it out. Is it goverment owned land or what? About the ccv hoses, I've heard several opinions but have always kept mine stock to be safe.

Sounds good. I'll be heading up to Cherohala when it snows, I always go up there because it will always be way deeper there, usely ride over to Robbisville and take the old road back,I like that little town. I run a Powertrax Lockrite in the front and a Powertrax No-slip in the rear of my XJ, they are both true lockers, not limited slip and I daily drive it, on the road they are noticable but not enough to bother me at all, offroad the difference is amazing. For the rear the No-slip is more streetable than the lockrite but more $, the front doesn't matter so much since it only works in 4x4. I've been wanting to check out squally and a place called the Little Buffalo Trail that's in that area, I hear it's ROUGH. You should check out the Tellico ORV area, there are all levels of trails there from easy to hard and there's several places to watch the big rigs play, that can be alot of fun on a busy weekend. Had any luck finding Comanches in junkyards over that way? There are a few around here if need something you haven't found yet.

If you look on the Goverment surplus sites there are sometime auctions for the c10 tugs, I've seen quite a few.

Disco and non- disco is referring to the front axle disconnect on the axle. Older xjs and mJs have the disconnect axle or disco and the newer 91 up I think has the nondisconnect axle or non disco. If your limited slip has that many miles on it it probably needs rebuilt to work better. Might try changing the fluid with the right fluid for limited slip differentials, sometime people change the fluid and don't put in the right fluid. I see your from the Cherohala Skyway, That's beautiful country. I'm originally from Tellico, now live in Sweetwater about 20 minutes away. You ever go to Tellico ORV area? Nice to see some locals here, welcome aboard!

I say go for it, the wheel will feel a bit heavier. It will depend on how much traction your getting as to how it steers. On loose slippery stuff you won't even notice it. After a few wheeling trips you won't think about it. I wouldn't take mine out for anything.
