Problems with Jeep I'm looking at.
Knucklehead97 posted a topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everyone remember that super clean Comanche I was looking at? The guy got back to me. It is overheating and apparently leaking from the "water outlet" as he calls it. He has replaced the radiator, thermostat, hoses, brake lines, powersteering pump, powersteering lines, waterpump. And multiple other parts. This is a closed system Jeep. So I think he just doesn't know anything about the cooling system. Better yet... I may be able to get this for less than 1000$ due to him not wanting it anymore. What are your thoughts on the cooling problem? He said it may be an air bubble in the radiator. Which he probably also didn't bleed the air from the back of the head. Thoughts? -
I'd jump all over it. But... here I am needing an AX-15 and 2-door bucket seats lol
-
I'm personally looking more for a story of "how" over more pictures... hope everyone was okay though, including the Jeep!
-
Guy selling the Jeep just messaged me. He said he can not sell the Jeep until he has the title put in his name (don't know the situation on that) so now I'm playing the waiting game till the title comes back. He said I was first in line for it when the title comes back, though.

Absolutely! Motorcraft Fl-1A's are like 4$ at Walmart.

But did you do the sidewalk thing? LOL. There ain't no sidewalks where Knuck is from.. :rotfl2: hey now we're starting to get caught up with the rest of the country! Supposed to be getting highspeed internet out where I live soon, fancy! :D

But did you do the sidewalk thing? LOL. I walk entirely to fast to keep track on whether I step on cracks or not. Ol' Ma's back is still doing half decent, though :D

The Volvo 746's are a good upgrade either way. Whether they give better performance or not. (Mine gave me noticably better throttle response, though) simply because they will not leak when they get really cold like the original Renix era metal ones do. That fuel leak was NOT fun to diagnose and fix. Fuel injectors will be one of the first things changed on the next MJ I get. And no, I did not reset my computer.

I'm jumping all over it trying to get to it before Sunday because someone could easily get to it begore I got off work. It's a 6 cylinder. Plans are a 2" Cherokee lift I have sitting around, possibly 31's after I wear out the set of 235's I have on my other Manche. Might get 4×4 swapped in before Winter if I feel like it. Oh and as soon as I get it I will be ordering Volvo injectors, premium plugs/wires, changing the oil filter nipple to take bigger filters, and adding a touch screen radio I got for 15$ :D

By "family" car I mean for my mother, siblings, and I to all be able to drive and haul stuff easily with haha. My brothers and I thrift a lot and would have gotten many pieces of furniture if I had only had a running truck at the time.
-
He wants only 1500$. I'm going Sunday to look at it as thats the nearest day he's off work! Very excited right now!
-
Just found a picture of its miles.... 108k!!! The guy needs to get in contact with me haha.

This the Comanche I'm looking at. I've seen it around town and it is CLEAN. I just wish the guy would message me back with a price because I'll even skip watching Captain America: Civil War tomorrow to go look at it. That Jeep bug is rough, eh? :D And yes I noticed the grill is upside down...

I was planning on buying that Ford Escort that I posted about a month or so ago. But the guy has stopped messaging me back and my interest has went into something else... Jeeps! Go figure, right? A guy today on Facebook posted a very nice auto, 2×4 Comanche for sale. Waiting on a message back to figure out the price and actual condition. But upon finding interest in this Comanche I think I've decided if I buy ANOTHER vehicle then it needs to be something my family and I can utilize more than a little car. Preferably an automatic Comanche (I'm the only one in the fam that can drive a stick) but a Cherokee would be acceptable as I already have brand new tires I could slap on it and a lift kit. A Cherokee can pull a trailer and hold a lot in the cab if I lay the seats down. And a good thing about Cherokees and Comanches is I know how to fix pretty much anything that could go wrong on them. Hoping and praying for a Comanche. But looks like I will at least be joining the XJ club soon! I'll keep ya'll posted on the Jeeps I'm looking at. And if anyone has an auto Comanche ot Cherokee for under 1800 around upper Alabama then I am definitely interested! Thanks :D

What to do with all my wires
Knucklehead97 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine only can handle 30 AMPs per post and 100 AMPS per block so I doubt it could handle that stuff haha -
What to do with all my wires
Knucklehead97 replied to Jackrabbit41's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I used something very similiar to one of these. Only have my headlights and LED pods running off of it currently but it works great for them. Ran a 4 gauge wire to it from the battery and mounted this on my firewall. Not sure how it would handle a sub/amp though. -
Best year for MJ build?
Knucklehead97 replied to lugnutz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Personally my favorite year model is '90 due to it being the only complete year that had an AX-15 and Renix in it. If I could redo my purchase I would have held out till I found a good '90. -
just adds more proof behind why I want 31's so freaking badly :D I've heard of Somerville but been to Huntsville a couple times. Not to far away!

What is the lift and tire size on that? I love the stance. Absolutely love every bit of the truck. Welcome from Attalla Alabama :D

ComancheClub meet-up in Birmingham AL (postponed?)
Knucklehead97 replied to Pete M's topic in The Pub
If it's in Birmingham I will almost definitely be able to join. Will do my best on Montgomery. -
I went and looked at a Nissan Sentra last month. The people would NOT budge from 600$ even though the timing chain could be heard over the ricer exhaust that was on it. Body was in horrid condition as well.

I had a 1993 ford escort station wagon hatch back. When i was done with it, it looked to be in about the same shape that one is in. My dad bought it brand new off the lot for 9k in 93. When It was handed down to me it had 220,000 miles on it and leaked oil like Niagara falls. it was the same four banger and 5 speed as that one. I drove it for a several years in college driving back and forth on trips well over 2-4 hours every other weekend visiting friends. On quite a few occasions I tired to blow the damn thing up and even got it to overheat one night and shut off, also had no response from the clutch besides the smoke that was coming from it. I thought for sure It was finally toast. Well.... the next morning it started up and never missed a beat. Needless to say I got another 90k out of it when I finally lost 2nd and 3rd gear. I ended up selling it with a blown transmission for $250 and 310,000 all original miles on it. Of course it read to have 10,000 miles on it though. About a month later i saw it driving around town. I would see it every once in a while for the following couple years then never saw it since. So who knows if its still alive and how many miles it ended up lasting. But if I had to say one thing, no questions asked most built proof car I have ever owned, If I was in the market I wouldn't skip a beat to buy another one and have a lot of faith in it. But, I will say, in the condition it is in I wouldn't pay more than $600 for it. that's what I wanted to pay for it, it's what I offered. If it didn't have all the new parts then I wouldn't pay more than that. But with the new parts, especially the clutch, I probably couldn't find another stickshift in as good condition for less. Not much around here for cheap.

Hmm, it's listed as a hatchback everywhere. Eh, still looks good to me haha. And yeah that hood latch support is pretty jacked up. But, the hood stays closed and opens no problem. Just gotta adjust the cable due to it being moved from whatever hit it. If I even care that much, though, honestly. It's been 3 months since the Contours trunk latch broke and I still haven't gotten around to fixing it haha. This is exactly the responses I was hoping to get from you guys :D I'm thinking I can give 800$ and set a total budget of 12-1500$ and have a really nice little car afterwards. With 3 driving siblings and a 4th which will be driving soon, I just would like to have and auto car free for them to use if theirs ever broke down (the contour is auto and they could use it if I drove this) :D
-
Alrighty fellas. My '00 Contour is still running like a top. Got some new speakers put in and it's a great little daily driver. But I have been dying to drive a stickshift so I have been looking for a cheap stickshift junker to get. here's the one I'm checking out. It is a '91 Ford Escort LX. With a 1.9L 4cyl and a stickshift. It looks pretty junky. The interior isn't to bad, though. New parts include a radiator, alternator, battery, thermostat, and the exhaust has been straight piped (sounds pretty good but I will get it fixed). Oh and the clutch is less than a year old. I went and looked at it and I have to say this thing runs beautifully. Better than my contour. The idle is smooth, no jiggles or anything, no ticks or sounds and it runs down the road and shifts no problem. The only issue was we parked the car running while we talked for about 15 minutes and it started to boil coolant. I'm thinking because the fan didn't cut on so there was no airflow. I could easily bypass it and use a switch to turn it on when needed. Odometer shows 85K but I'm positive its 185k because the odometer has to be turned back every 100k. The worst part about the car is this The middle of the bumper just ain't there. The guy said that the absolute lowest he would go is 800$. I'm a sucker for hatchbacks, so I would like to get a second opinion. It also does not leak oil at all. The engine shows that it used to have a valve cover leak but I could not see it drip anywhere and the owner said he's never had to put oil in it. And.... GO!

When cruiser tips go wrong.
Knucklehead97 replied to Egm89's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had never actually soldered anything in my life and I bought this. Very nice and made learning how to solder VERY easy. I recommend investing in a variety pack of heat shrink tubing. The one I bought was about 13$ and includes enough tubing to last me a few years.
