Well after researching the 4 cylinder that came in S10's, I've decided against it. To low gas mileage and power for a pickup truck.

http://gadsden.craigslist.org/cto/5238876385.htmlanyone got any experience with 4 cylinder S10's? Gas mileage, reliability, ect? Be a step down from the MJ for sure but I would enjoy still having a place for my tools/ability to carry big stuff. Also 89k for that cheap is amazing. Just deer damage, easily fixed from a junkyard run eh? Opinions!!!

waiting for a text back on this one. It's got me wondering what tranny is in it considering it says manual yet in the pictures its an auto... who knows. Really wish the Hyundai was a Honda. It would be sold if it was.

20 MPG out of a civic? I have a buddy that gets close to 40 out of his! I would definitely prefer Nissan, Honda, or Toyota.

http://gadsden.craigslist.org/cto/5204214058.html here's the Elantra that kind of caught my eye. Guy said I could have it for 2k. KBB is 1866 on it, so I figure I'll offer 19 and take it home. REALLY clean from the pictures. And new tires. Only thing keeping me from looking at it is the Hyundai part... just never really heard good things about Hyundai and Kia. I'm definitely staying 4 Cylinder. Almost every little car I've seen with a 4 cylinder just can't be killed.

I've got about 2300$ tops. I was hoping to find something with around 150k on the clock or less (tough in that price range, but already found it doable) because I put a lot of miles on a car and would love to find something that will last at least 4 years or so without much worry. I appreciate the offer, though! If you were closer I would definitely talk more with you about the Camry!
-
And I'm honestly not looking for anything special. Just a daily. I was asked earlier by someone if I wanted a "muscle or import" car. And I looked at them and said I just want a reliable daily. Just to get to school and work and take a girl out every once in awhile. If I could find a Nissan Sentra like my mom bought last year, I would jump on it like crazy. I just can't kill that car!
-
I appreciate the offer, but I doubt that I have the cash for it. Or the insurance payments lol :D

Been searching around for a daily driver. And I think I've decided I want a small stickshift car. So, I want some peoples opinions! What small cheap cars have you guys had good experiences with? Currently I'm looking at a 2004 Hyundai Elantra with 150k on the odometer. Anybody ever dealt with one? Not sure how I feel about Hyundai, just keeping my options open. Thanks!

theres quite a few other things I need to do to the Manche before it's completely daily drivable as well, so getting another car HAS to happen :/ next spring will probably be when I jump back on it. I just hope to grab up this Altima I'm looking at. It's really nice :D hopefully it won't turn out like that Camry!

I was planning to take the transmission and Tcase back for a refund cause it's under warranty. I considered a rebuild, but wouldn't that run about $1000? I would love to have a fresh transmission in it but sheesh, thats a bunch haha. A friend of mine is selling his daughters Nissan Altima (not sure on the year yet) with 70k miles for $3500. From what Craigslist has shown me... thats a good price for those miles. I'm looking for something that I won't have to put any money into to drive. Just don't have the time to work on something. Hoping him and I can get together and talk more about it soon.

It is a little depressing seeing everyone elses MJ's looking great and drivable while mine sits in the yard with parts in the bed. But heck, I'll still check up on the forums sometimes till I find the time and parts to fix it. I'm already close to having a car, just gotta get more info on the one I'm checking out. Glad to see that third rule, I honestly forgot about that one haha.

Hey guys. The past weekend I went through the painful no sleep for 3 days proccess of trying to put an AX-15 into my MJ because my BA10 was giving up. I got it all bolted up and bam... the AX-15's 4th gear was stripped and wouldn't do crap. I put the BA10 back in just to hold the engine up and I hate to say it but I'm having the Jeep towed back to my house today and there it will sit for awhile. Just gotta give up on the ol girl for awhile and worry about other things. Still looking for another AX-15 or a Cherokee parts vehicle to grab one out of. But it's not on my top priority list anymore. I threw around the idea of selling the MJ but I couldn't do it so I'm just grabbing up a cheap car to drive to and from work and eventually school, while the Jeep waits for a good transmission. Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm extremely thankful for all the help you've given me in keeping her on the road, I've learned a bunch from the knowledge of this forum. Can't wait to be back on here with a running MJ but it will be awhile. Thanks again and God bless! Zach.

Cleaning/removing fusebox

Hmm... that fuse block looks familiar... Oh yeah! That's the exact fuse block that's sitting in my parts cabinet waiting to be wired in :D -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If lapping turns out to be as easy as it seems, then chances are that's the route I'll go. Maybe I can find someone around here that has done it before to give me some pointers :D -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
that's very good info, thanks! I was at a weld shop today getting a bolt welded on my shifter because the yard I got the AX-15 from cut the shift threads off and there was a machine shop behind the weldshop. I went ahead and got a quote, just for the heck of it. Guy said about $150 for a full valve job/checking the head for cracks if I brought it to him. And around $20 to have a single valve ground down and reseated. Not bad prices, honestly. But I'll make the decision after doing a vacuum check and figuring out the actual problem. I appreciate it, guys :D -
Valve job options

yeah... my cat is gone and the pipe I installed in its place has a leak now which I'm guessing is what has burnt a valve IF I have, which I will find out ASAP. Also my EGR is soon to be taken out as well. And no smoke at all, not even white smoke thankfully. Just little pops at idle. -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I just don't have the money to change the engine if it doesn't work, honestly. This transmission change and having to get new tires has broke me lol. I'll have to look into the driveway job. What are the chances of the lap job fixing it? -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
225000 miles on it. And I'm going to bring it up to the shop for a compression test and all that to see if the valves are the cause once I get my transmission installed. The shop does free compression checks. Or is the test with a vacuum gauge different from checking through compression? -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's really inspiring, actually. I'll have to tackle this when I get past the AX-15 swap and RMS change. I'm guessing I only need to change and lap the valves that need it? It's not a "change one change all" type of deal? And from what I understand I won't even have to pull the intake or anything right? -
Intermittent "dead" start...solonoid?
Knucklehead97 replied to Lftrn97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Mine did the same thing for about a year. A new starter fixed it right up. Mine is a stickshift, though. Also if your oil filter adapter is leaking and it's a Renix engine (87-90 4.0) then I sell the Orings needed to fix it, at a good price. Good luck with it, hope it turns out well! Zach. -
Valve job options
Knucklehead97 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Dang, this really sucks, honestly. I appreciate the input! If anyone knows any cheaper routes or anything let me know, please. I'm interested in all options if it is actually a jacked up valve. Which, I won't know for awhile anyways. I've been driving the thing a bit before my tranny went out and it has plenty of power and does great unless it's idling. -
A couple months ago I took my MJ to a mechanic to have it checked out because I could not find the source of the little puffs out the tailpipe when it got warmed up. They, too, could not figure it out. But told me they THINK it's a burnt/bent/collapsed valve. This sounds probable considering my Jeep has cracks in the exhaust manifold and a good exhaust leak before the muffler. Lack of back pressure could have screwed up a valve, eh? Also for about 4 months I ran it on 5 cylinders with my #1 cylinder having an injector that was to lean and wouldn't hit unless I was on the throttle. Don't know if that could have done anything, but, this begun after I changed injectors and started firing on all cylinders again. Far as I know this did not happen beforehand. But anyways, if I do have a jacked up valve then what are my options? How much would a valve job be and is it easy enough for me to do myself if I got the parts? Or could I just get a valvetrain off of a good running engine and swap it on with new lifters and call it done? This all will be done after getting the leaks fixed, of course. Just looking for the simplest option.

BA-10/5 Tranny mount part number?
Knucklehead97 replied to PEEJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
2625 works with any tranny that mounts to the 4.0 other than the BA10. The BA10's is to pricey, glad I'm changing trannys.. -
fuel pump nipple at bottom of pump
Knucklehead97 replied to 86customanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Cheers, glad the write up helped. I recently pulled mine back out and found that the strainer fell off, so I added a pull tie to hold it on. And also, mine when pulling it out the second time the rubber piece was stuck in the hole it sits in. I guess I have pretty skinny arms because I easily reached it and pulled it out with the gas tank still mounted :D
