  1. Thanks Don. I am finding more and more wrong as I feel back the layers. It will take some time but it should be on the road in about a month.
  2. I messed around and found all the wires under the Unilite cap cut, NSS was bad, electric fuel pump was siezed and numerous wires under the dash were cut. I got it to run off gas down the carb but the POS Edlebrock/Carter carb was shot. I threw it in the trash and put a freshly rebuilt Holley 600 on it. I paid $50 for the carb from a old hot rodder down the road. He assured me that the carb was right. For $50 I took a chance on it. This is the very first fire with the new carb in place. The little 327 SBC is an absolute beast! Anything about 1/4 throttle and it is melting the rear hides. Yesterday was my wife's birthday and seeing her face light up when she heard it running made all the late nights worth all the aggravation getting it running.
  3. Old a$$ American Racing wheels
  4. It had a bad ignition switch, neutral safety switch, three broken wires to the dizzy and three cut wires under the dash. But I got it to fire. Next is to make sure the fuel system is clean and hook up the tank and drive it!
  5. The CJ was a cool little rig.
  6. Not running, supposed to be a fresh rebuilt 327. I have plans to swap a 2000ish Explorer chassis under it.
  7. Well... I traded the CJ5 off for this truck. My wife has been saying how cool old trucks look. Well the timing was right and we traded straight across. It has a Chevy 327 and a TH350. It is full of 80s goodness and even has a 8 track player!
  8. We are related. I'm Robert L. Kennedy III, true story.
  9. That's cool. I'm a Kennedy also
  10. Good question, not sure why I bother any more.
  11. Well I have been with this forum for 10+ years so... It is slowing down, a LOT! Moderators are not paid so your argument doesn't make sense either.
  12. I personally would not participate in a "shift knob" drawing. I have no use for one and don't personally like the look of a wood ball. No offense. Even if I do win a discount on a hitch or a Krustyballer part I wouldn't take it. I tried to raffle off a $600 bumper, nobody wanted to play. I think this forum is petering out like every other one out there. Social media and the millennial instant gratification is the death to forums everywhere.
  13. I got the cage set in the CJ and it looked great! Unfortunately my top would not fit right. So I fixed that. Now my top fits like it should. In the process of fighting with the cage I shattered the windshield. It was shot and it allowed me to see that the windshield frame was completely rusted out. I also found out this was originally a real Renegade. I just threw the sticker on the hood because I liked it.
  14. Tongue locks don't work out here. They will wrap the safety chains around their hitch and drive away with your trailer. Lug locks and a chain through the wheels works well and is cheap. They also have locking chock that goes between the wheels. They will still pull a tire off to get the chock off then put your wheel back on and steal the trailer.
  15. My yard looks like a used car lot. Nothing has been stolen so far.
  16. Run a chain through the wheels and around the axles. Make it so they can't take the wheels off.
  17. I don't agree with instagram or Facebook user trucks. One of the "rules" is they must have a build thread. Another "rule" was they have to be a contributing member of this forum. My vote goes to the truck below. It is a work in progress but is coming along very nicely. Comanche Trailhawk

    Sacrilege

    I like it...
  19. I'm done with this thread also but I will agree with you 100% about bump steer. cRusty's WJ lift comes with a drop pitman arm but nothing for the track bar. That was the scariest driving Jeep I ever drove. I decided to lift it after Goatman pulled me off a beer can in JV. Sadly I choose poorly and went with cRusty's. A few weeks later I had a BDS lift on it.
  20. The size of the vehicle doesn't matter. A Cummins will get DW just as easy as a MJ. The suspension and steering design are the same. Fords get it too. All solid axle vehicles can get. I have had it in a M813 5 Ton with super single tires. By your argument my V8 WJ should have never gotten DW because the vehicle was heavier. The WJ is one of the worst vehicles for DW because they moved the control arm mounts closer to the center.
  21. Again... Richard, replacing the steering damper is not curing the DW. It is simply masking the problem. That is my point. You are not curing the problem by replacing a steering stabilizer.
  22. It has nothing to do with cost savings. It has everything to do with the solid axle design and it's tendency to have DW and bump steer. They are there to cover up and hide shimmy and bump steer. They are also there to delay vehicles coming back for warranty repair for shimmy and shakes. There are numerous recalls and TSBs from every manufacturer of solid axle vehicles. Guess what the reason for custom complaint is? Yep, DW and steering wheel shimmy. My truck above has an open recall for the steering. I'm waiting until I need new components to take it in and get the steering replaced. I have noticed a slight bit more or "crown following" and very minor shimmy on hard impact hits. The steering is not as firm without the damper but it returns to center faster. This is not the first solid axle vehicle that I have removed the damper on. I don't run them on any I take off road. I seem to smash them the very first time out. For me it is cheaper and easier to set my steering up properly than replace a un-needed part.
  23. I do believe you covered up a problem by replacing a weak damper. I also believe you did not fix the problem. You simply prolonged a minor issue that will turn into a bigger issue later on. As I have shown above. You do not need a damper if your front end is healthy, alignment is good and your tires are properly balanced. If you want to keep band aiding people's vehicles that's your choice. It is NOT the correct way to repair a DW problem, period.
  24. A steering stabilizer is a bandaid. If your front end is in good shape and your tires are properly balanced you do not need one. This is the front on my daily driven Dodge Ram 2500, long bed, 4x4, BBed Cummins. I don't have a stabilizer. I bent it a few months back and removed it. I have been too cheap, lazy and busy to mess with it. If you're thinking that it is fine because I don't have aggressive tires you'd be wrong. Maybe they are just a touch bigger than stock size tires? Wrong again. If I can run without a stabilizer on this big girl there is no reason why an MJ can't. Stop buying into the hype that you need a steering stabilizer Richard I know you know you're stuff but this is one of the times I don't agree with you or anyone that ever suggest replacing a stabilizer to fix DW.
