Checked with San Diego Police Dept this afternoon, still no sign of the TDI Comanche. Missing 8 days now.

About 20/25 minutes. Depends on traffic. His place is very urban, mine is very suburban. He is just off a main heavy traffic street, very easy access. No garage. We are well off a main street, at the end of a development with only one way in/out. Also a "better" neighborhood - not that it means much. Anita parked her car in the driveway and says somebody went thru her center console just a few days ago. Funny, they missed about $60 in cash in the car. At least he finally bought his own truck! A 2008 Ford Ranger, with 83K miles. Will be interesting to see how long that truck lasts.

Here is the build thread, See picture on 5th page about 3/4 down:

Hopefully, somebody needed a ride for a little while and the truck will simply be abandoned. That happened with a 1990 Mazda truck I owned. Doubt the thief knew anything about the truck having a TDI engine in it. If he keeps it for long, he/she may even try to put gas in it.

Perhaps a sad end to the Comanche TDI project: The truck was stolen from my son''s place on Thursday morning, between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. No word on the truck, likely too soon to expect any news.

Comanche bed cover question.
johnj92131 replied to Jacoblopes's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You don't say where you are located or how far you are willing to travel. But a few suggestions. 1). Craigslist 2). Used shell/topper dealers. 3). Talk to a couple of local body shops, how do they locate old shells for insurance jobs. 4). Comanche club for sale and wanted ads.look at all the old ones, may still be available. Hopefully this will help -
Jeep Driver, I am pleased that it only took a few videos to get you to wear your seat belt. In 1968 my uncle Cooper was ejected from his truck in a 30 mph accident in Los Angeles traffic. He had turned right just one block away from the accident site. So he could not have been going faster than 25/30. Net result - my uncle was killed when he hit the pavement. And yes, his truck had seat belts, he was just on a short work trip, so did not buckle up. That is what it took to get me to use my seat belt for the last 50 years.

Replacement Bushings - Rubber or Polyurethane
johnj92131 replied to WahooSteeler's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Someone correct me if I am wrong. But doesn't the term "durometer" describe the harshness or softness of any bushing? So a .75 rating should be the same across different bushing materials? True or not? A .75 urathane bushing should be no more or less harsh than a .75 rubber bushing? -
How it turns out? My guess - higher temperatures and less lubrication with aftermarket products. May be even a Banks diff cover that works like stock and has BLING.

Tonight, but remember I am in the Pacific Time zone so it's my time, not yours!! Hey, I am not mean enough to wish 24+ hours labor on any woman. That is time enough to consider a C section. But that is a call for the doctors. -
Your opinion will be highly appreciated

Just looking at the money required here. You are saying the 1990 is a strong base for a reasonable stock restoration. Also saying the 92 is going to require more money to restore properly. Logic says deal with the 1990 first and keep it stock. Then deal with the 1992. Take in mind lessons learned on the 1990 -

Plans change. Son brings 91 Comanche back Monday. Says it is now stalling every couple of minutes. So he takes the diesel and leaves me the problem again. I have told him to just buy a new car and get away from the old car issue. He seems to think it is cheaper to fix old cars than buy a new one. Guess he is right when Dad pays the bills. So I told him he gets to pay for the repair of the 91 or just do what he has to do in order to get a new truck. So he will pay the $1500 to repair the Comanche. Poor decision on his part -
Congrats, I retired 2+ years ago. Lots of traveling the first year. Lots of medical problems for spouse the second year. Behind us now and back to travel. Thailand was wonderful! Time to do what you want to do. Go for it.

Dual battery set up
johnj92131 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Think I would be inclined to buy a small inverter generator, instead of a second battery set up Had a 1 kw Honda for years for camping. Even used it when my main breaker at home failed for several days. Many choices today for 2 kw generators -
Missed the previous correction! Agreed, speedometers are not that accurate, plus are on optometristic side. Especially on 30+ year old Jeep's. On my old Passat TDI, odometer disagreed with speedometer by over 7%.

Yes it was Metric gauges and all. The rest of the world uses the metric system. Even U.S. army does. I am 25 miles north of Mexico, so go there often. Helps keep the policia away when I know the speed limits. Same thing in Canada, had a RCMP pull me over 20 years ago. Besides, the rough math is easy. 5 miles = 8 km BTW, the diesel is running very nicely now. Just needs A/C. My son returned the 91 on Monday because it keeps stalling on him. So he has the diesel now and I get to take the 91 to the shop.

180 klometers is 111.487 miles. 100 km is 62 mph Looking carefully at my Canadian diesel Comanche, I see marker 10 km beyond 180. Marked to 190 km or 118.061 mph. It doesn't take much training to use the metric speedo in the U S . MPH marks are on the metric speedo.
