Aftermath of a Dead Alt.
jared replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
try keeping the fog lights disconnected. maybe they are just shorting out somewhere, and draining you battery. -
how does that sound with the glass pack?

Rusty's Off Road lifts (2 1/2 inch)
jared replied to mparsons's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
i like rusty's products, so far with all my expiriance with them it was never bad. but add a leafs always tend to ride pretty harsh and not flex that great. 31's will be fine with the 2 1/2'' lift -
looks awesome man, keep up the good work

my 99 is 3.55

everybody's opinion on the best track bars
jared replied to bigwormskidoo's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
all the track bars posted looked the same to me, just some had different ends, and they all had there own brackets. and they all look better than the stock tie rod end track bar. so technically they would all be an upgrade over a TRE style trackbar. -
my xj has 3.55 gears and 33'' tires with an auto trans. it runs great on the highway crusiing between 70 and 80. but stop and go traffic just kills me and my gas mileage.

So, what's the best CHEAP shocks?
jared replied to DirtyComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
^^^ you are the man, that was the most informative thing i have ever read on how to measure for shocks -
mig welding is pretty darn easy once you get the hang of it, but stick welding is harder, but you get more penetration in thicker metals which is the most important part of a weld. tig welding is really nice and everything but too much money for the newb.
-
auto darkening helmet, they are expensive but the best thing ever. they make welding a lot easier for newbs and experianced welders alike.

all you need for the lift (depending on how hight you go) is coils lower control arms rear leafs or do a SOA maybe longer brakes lines then you can add later (or anything over 4'') new track bar upper control arms drop pitman arm the lift on my Xj is all pieced together. with 3'' coils, 2'' spacers, rough country lca's, jks tracbar, shakles 1'', 1'' blocks, and 4'' rought country leafs. the jeep rides really smooth and it was all pretty cheap. but a kit is nice because everything is designed to work together and ride decent.
-
the kit does not include any lower control arms, which would help prevent eath wobble. and the bolt on SOA doesn't look good to me
-
if it doesn't look the same to you, it probably isn't right.
-
sweet pics, but not such a sweet story. i hope for the best man.

i know in the 96 and earlier year the speaker were in the rear hatch itself on some models. on the newer ones 97 and up they are in the headliner in the rear. i never seen one with a sound bar

maybe this isn't really tech, if its not please move it. but i just want to know what everyone bring with them when they hit the trails for a weekend or something just in case something breaks or they get stuck. i personally bring a small tool kit - sockets wrenches pliers electrical connectors tape, gloves etc fluids - some atf, engine oil, powersteering fluid gears oil. zip ties - they are extremly useful for anything flashlights small fisrt aid kit recovery strap snacks and drinks d rings water - to wash windows off/ lights extra clothes
-
it would be extremley heavy and hard to lift the removable part onto the bumper, like over 100 pounds. other than that it looks good.
-
i was just thinking about a diy section for the forum. were a member would do a write up a a project they are doing and take pics and explain it step by step. the posts would be locked so no comments could be made, but if there was a question about the topic posting in the tech section would provide the needed help.

Alternatives for Standard Dot3 brake fluid?
jared replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I'm thinking about running it, its just I need a name of some sort, like Jimmy's stupendous DOT-5 brake fluid :brows: the drone at crappy tire looked at me like I had a tire sticking outta my forehead. your from canada and it might not be called dot5, because that is the US department of transportation, so it might be labeled as something else in canada, but try looking for a silicone based fluid. it will probably be the most expensive too. -
Alternatives for Standard Dot3 brake fluid?
jared replied to Kenosha Warrior's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
brake fluid will absorb water and it will decrease its boiling point (give you spongy pedal and possibly no brakes) and it will corrode the master cylinder and brake line etc. from the inside out. -
^^^ definatly over 4 inches you need new lower control arms or you will get death wobble to a degree. if you decide to get the rocky road kit rough country lower arms are like 100 dollars. thats what i have on my jeep. they got rid of my death wobble.

welds look good, i like it
