ok so from this last post we see a d30 is not as strong as a real d44 which we all know, but it still remains a mystery as to whether its (d30 hp) is any stronger than the fake rubi d44. basically i was looking at prices at builting my d30 in my xj to make it strong and reliable, and the cost would be considerable for a superior "super 30" kit retail at 1590.00 and a new ring and pinion about 150.00 we are looking at about 1700 in parts + labor (i can't do that myself because i don't have the knowledge yet of what it all entails) so i say around 2000 total 4wd hardware has d44 front and rear axles assemble and ready to bolt on to a tj (off road magazine demonstrated that a tj front axles will bolt onto an xj or mj with no mods) a new d44 front with 4.10 gears, alloy usa axle shafts, detroit truetrac, and new balljoints for 2129.00 assembled and ready to ship. or an arb air locker for 2469.00 so the price is comparable and only off by about 450 more for the arb locker in the d44, now would that 450 dollars for the d44 provide anymore strength than the built d30, since the "super 30" has the same 30 spline shafts locker etc as the d44
-
how can i tell if my d30 is high or low pinion (99 xj) since the d30 is probably strong enough, what should the rear be an older pre 90 xj d44? or something beefier?
-
where at in new jersey are you? i am moving to jersey in oct 07 glouster county area.
-
so a d30 high pinion is just as strong as a d44 low pinion? i know a high pinion would be better, but i didn't think that would be stronger. now if i added an axle truss of somekind would that give a d30 or d44 a lot more strength and make it worth it?

^^ well right now i have an xj :D
-
i have an xj right now, even tho its the same as an mj, i plan on keeping 33'' tires on it or maybe upgrade to 35's with cutting the fenders and a tid bit more lift. i have a 8.25 rear axle stock with d30 front. i know for a rear axle i would probably be bettor off finding a xj d44 because its a straight bolt in affair but after regearing, adding a locker and new shafts etc etc i would still have the same amount into it as a new axle. i also have 2 9'' third members laying around would those be worth building for a rear axle?
-
very nice, you stole my idea tho to turn it into a new version. what do you mean you "bobed the rear bed"
-
so the new d44 is a little (or a lot) weaker than a pre 90 version, but it is still stronger than a d30 i assume? now 4wd hardware has tj d44 axles already buit ready to bolt on with detroit or arb locker, gears of your choice, alloy usa axle shafts for about 2200 dollars, do you think this might be worth it? i know if you searched you could find a real d44, but after adding lockers, strongeraxles, new gears etc. you are looking at more money than that, plus installation unless you do it yourself. and you might even need to get it shortened down, weld all the brackets etc. i know this would be the better way to go, but how much stronger is this old axle than the new one. and finally could you make the new one just as strong as the old one?
-
i was just looking at "off road" magazine in borders and they did a rubicon front d44 axle swap onto an mj, they said it was a complete bolt in affair. they bought the whole axle brand new (with no guts or axle shafts etc) for just under 600 bucks at the dealership. now after everything is said and done you have probably over 2000 into the axle but its all brand new and bolt on, do you think its worth it? and i know tj's use rear coils, but i suppose the same could be done for the rear with some cutting and welding the new leaf pads and shock mounts to it for your xj or mj right?

what have you heard bad about rustys
-
i used lowes indoor outdoor carpetin my brothers truck and some 3m adhesive spray, but its floor was not rusted out
-
i like rustys offroad products, they are a good quality and a decent price. they also have the parts to convert to a spring over axle or a full new leaf pack for mj's which is a plus depending on whichever route you want to go.
-
the paint looks great man, and i agree you should make the "bend up" on the corners a little farther in, i think it would look better
-
very nice, my bro has the rustys longarm on his xj. i wish i could do that on mine.
-
very sweet man. i hope it holds up to its name. maybe we should try to get a por-15 group buy or something
-
don't run the cluster, you could get an autometer guage setup and a piece of aluminum in the stock cluster location, which would be really cool but a bit more expensive. or a gps speedometer so it doesn't matter what tires, or gears you have its always right.
-
yeah i am on great lakes, i saw this place from your mj windshield the other day. i am so glad this is a nice place.
-
actually i love mj's but they are hard to find. i really want one but i want to sell my jeep to save money for now. love your red one by the way, its my inspiration to owning an mj

hamann st. lifted black xj with fs signs

i have bfg a/t and they handle fine, i drive my xj daily on the road they are quiet and have hardly any wear. i air them down off road and they handle ok in mud, but quickly clump up and lose traction. if you occasionally wheel and are mostly on road a set of bfg a/t would be great, just be a little more on the conservative side off road so you don't bury yourslef

looks like a lot of fun man.
