    SCORE!

SWEET SCORE! So your truck has 31x10.50s? and how much lift?
  2. Most batt chargers can not load test a battery or determine if it has a bad cell. So definitely take it with you to get the alt and have them check it properly. Also look at the date on it. In las vegas batteries will not last longer than 2 years in most cases. Evaporation rate is too high. Other states with some humidity some have seen 10+ years from batteries. But these days unless its an interstate it usually won't last over 5 years. many batteries can have a dead cell and still start the car for years. Yet they are taxing the crap out of the alternator during that time. Sounds like a great wife to me... hehe.
  3. Take the alt and the batt to your fav auto parts store and have them both tested. Its likely that the batt is toast and the alt has been carrying it on its shoulders for a long time. Thats what toasted the alt. Once you figure out what is good and what is bad then put the new parts back. Before doing that, inspect and or replace both cables going to the battery. They are likely corroded internally if they are very old. Clean the ground contact points at both ends. Also check the lead from the alt to the battery. The one that charges the system. I added one directly from the alt to my battery on my MJ. Also the one from the positive batt lead to the main fuse box, was heavily internally corroded on my truck. I replaced it also. :) After this lil charging system tune up, you should be good for a few years before youll need to love on it again. :wrench:
  4. easily. Thats why they are called "flotation tires". hop in the water, swing a little outboard off the back and haul @$$ to the other side. leave the bad guys behind goin :fs1:
  5. we need a worldwide anti smoking craze. sounds good to me.
  6. weight has ZERO to do with floating. How much do you think an aircraft carrier weighs?
  7. Send me pics? and a pm or email? if I'm not interested i have plenty of friends who are. :)
  8. my current obsession is gas pressure appliances. So mainly old lanterns, lamps and stoves that are either powered by camp fuel/white gas or kerosene. I'm really into the oddball/non coleman stuff. I currently have about 70 lanterns and around 50 stoves. A small collection but mostly rare stuff as thats what gets me goin. These 3 are all from the onset of ww2. the middle one is one of 4 known to exist and the outer 2 there are around 20 known to exist. I could go on with pics endlessly..lol.
  9. reseal the system and charge it with R12. 134 sucks.
  10.
  11. joe...lol. His info says hes in Florida. As far as he can possibly be from you in the usa. lol
  12. Well...lol. I'm not really here to argue but i will say this. What your experience may be with your personal vehicle, i can assure you does not apply to the rest of the world in all cases. remember you may live where its nice and cool all the time, or you may just have good parts. There are a lot of solid items out there in the automotive world, this much I'm aware of. (they are tested to the max here in the dry HOT desert) But doing this for a living every day now since about 1995, i can say that ive had my hands on a ton of vehicles, 10s of thousands. I am a drivability and diag tech. Had my smog license for a decade in CA, and I'm still at it. Ive seen every manner of ignition failure you can imagine. The coil is the part that goes first. spark plug sparks ONE cylinder.. that wire sparks ONE cylinder. A coil has to spark them all.. over and over and over. 100k miles is a $#!& load of sparks for that particular piece of equipment. Coil on plug should last longer right? except that it is subject to twice as much heat thereby negating any longevity you could have gained by having one coil per plug over having 1 coil for 6 plugs. Quality IS a big factor though, so if your getting a bajillion miles out of a part, thats awesome but remember that is not going to be everyones experience. My point was, at 10 years or longer, and 100k miles, if you have to buy a part thats only 125 bucks... you shouldnt let that ruin your day. thats quite cheap when other cars need entire transmissions or engines at 100k. I understand being spoiled on parts. I build old vws, and i have the original gearbox from 1957 in my bus. God knows how many miles are on it, and I'm putting 3 times the factory horsepower through it and it doesnt miss a beat. lol.
  13. No prob. i specialize in being the "solutions guy" And one of my biggest studies and research has been on ring and pinion life, especially on weak units. I am one of the top s2000 builders in the country. Well the s2000 has a history of differential failures. Fluid IS the problem. If the fluid is not the proper stuff, then it allows metal to metal contact. Then stuff misaligns, I'm talkin by thounsandths of an inch and the unit does a pufferfish effect.. then its over. It swells enough to skip a tooth, or shall i say... move the load out to an undesired portion of the tooth/teeth and BOOM there goes your ring. This is the case in most final drives. I have also drag raced my entire life. The difference between an exploded final drive and one that holds is always in the setup and the fluid. Units that others say are "known to be weak" are simply not being properly set up for the intended use. That extreme pressure gear oil i showed you, has solved about 90% of our differential failures in the s2000 world. 75/90... BOOM. extreme pressure 90/110. stays in one piece. Guys were breaking differentials in as little as 9 clutch dumps on the street. I had over 3500 7k rpm clutch dumps (drag race starts) on my diff when i sold the car. I proved the fluid had solved the issue. This fluid is now the s2000 industry standard. :) Hope this helps the comanche community. Its what ill be running in my D30 when i do a non CAD upgrade and 33s or 35s
  14. lol...SMH
  15. Fill that front axle with LE1605. That will help keep that gear set alive. :) http://products.lelubricants.com/item/a ... in=keyword fluid is everything when it comes to severe service on a gear set.
  16. Trucksarossa...lol.
  17. $80!!!!! wtf. to re rubber your old line? must have miscommunicated with you or something. They rebuilt 2 AC lines for me for 30 each. A short piece of brake line clamped onto your old metal should have been about 20 bucks. Thats odd.
  18. you live in vegas... your set. Take line off... take to house of hose out off boulder highway.. they will put new rubber line in it and it will be like new. :)
  19. if i were you i would party that its only 125 bucks. To get 100k miles out of ANY coil is amazing. There are cars that need thousands... yes THOUSANDS of dollars worth of repairs at 100k miles. If thats all youve had to do to it and its given that many trouble free miles... you should be thankful.
  20. Measuring tape acrossed the pipe to make sure? :dunno:
  21. You will find that MJ/VW's go hand in hand here. Feel free to indulge us. We have a lot of VeeDub owners in the room. Rob Oh well thats cool. I just don't want to be "that guy" who comes on and is all self absorbed and going on and on about his "brand x" and everyone is like.... dude...... really. This is the comanche forum... not the forum for you to talk about your "xxx". lol But thats cool there are vw folks on here. Makes me feel right at home. :D
  22. Without totally highjacking my own thread.... wait too late. lol. What would you guys like to know about the bus? I figured id steer clear of getting much detail into it since this isnt the bus forums. It has its place there. Its a stock height 1957 panel delivery. Has 215/75 15 BFG KM2s on it. Stock they have 4 wheel IFS and basically non steer portal axles in the rear. So despite being 2wd they are quite capable offroad, especially if a person can drive/has the driver mod. (but no comparison to a 4wd jeep that flexes like crazy) I mean your just not gonna get far without 4wd. Giant incline with loose cover comes, toast. Rubicon or moab or places you need flex... toast.. not goin. lol. But many places it has been, people on the trail can't believe its there or made it to the destination the trail represents. Ive been building these since i got my license and have had around 30 of them. This one has roughly 6500 dollar motor in it so its no slouch. Rated at 3/4 ton it hauls much more than that, and i have had a ton in it and drove 1500 miles that way. Thats what i can think of for now without going into lovey dovey details that as i said, arent really for the jeep forums. :) Thanks for the kind words guys. Dave
