  1. If there is an electric fuel pump inside the tank, and you let them run low on gas, the bearings inside the pump have been known to heat up and seize. The gas cools the pump, so it is best to never go below 1/4 tank. What about bad gas? Clogged filter from pumping out the water in the bottom of the tank when you ran out???
  2. What transmissions bolt up to those?
  3. I know this is way off topic, but i'm taking a mental break from "coding". In 72, 73ish, IH installed the AMC 258 into the new Scout II model. They ran a T-19 4 speed which had fully syncronized gears and came with an optional wide ratio. You can bolt up a D18 and the warn/saturn overdrive. If you twin stick the D18, then you can have a total of 4 shift levers.....COOL! :laughin:
  4. Have you talked with "Herm the overdrive guy" ? He may know of a way. I will add that my 06 rubicon (stock 4.10s' and 6 speed) gets better mileage in 5th gear running 67 mph, that it does in 6th running 72. I know you said you didn't really care about mileage, but it does give you a good indication of that "happy" speed vs rpm range that you want to shoot for.
  5. I don't know what a stage II clutch kit is, but if it is a high performance clutch kit, there is a good chance it will require a lot more force to depress the pedal. Keep that in mind if you do a lot of city driving. Stiffer clutches are for high performance applications where you don't want slippage. Like drag strips... A waste of money IMO.
  6. I would put both rear wheels up on jackstands and spin the drive shaft by hand to try and isolate the noise first. Could easily by a u-joint. Unless it's time for a fluid change anyway...
  7. That's the best way to buy the parts actually. They sell it as a kit. Clutch, pressure plate, slave, pilot bearing even comes with the alignment tool.
  8. I'm working on a website for a friend that will change the color of a metal building depending on what color they chose. Kind of like so you can preview it before hand to help decide on the colors. Got me to thinking that it would be nice to do this to a comanch when deciding on what color to paint without having to go into photoshop and do it manually. So I started the project this AM and haver it nearly finished, but need to tweak it some. I need someone who can code in adobe flash/ CSS/XHTML to get in touch with me if you are interested in helping to finish up the project. When finished, there will be a color chart that a user can click the desired color, and the paint on the comanche will reflect the choice.
  9. Not at all. Just means the slave cylinder is leaking and not the master cylinder. On a side note: You should have seen the strange look my Aunt gave me the other day when I mentiond needing to "bleed the slave after changing the master". I kid you not she was puzzled and bothered enough to pull me aside to explain myself.
  10. I agree. The mismatched colors is just fuel for ther fire to keep you motivated to finish (if you are like me).
  11. Yeah, I was aware of the low pinion D30, but not going to build this for anything serious offroad. On our ranch, we have a big hill that takes 4wd to get up if you have any kind of a load going up. Also, the transmission is definately an AW4. I'm hoping for a 231 since that's what is in my rock buggy. Good to know. I will use it. I like a quicker ratio. Thanks for the tip!
  12. The Grand Cherokee is in my shop as of today. Hey, free is free right? Guess I should start a build thread. I didn't get the engine/transmission/tranfercase yet as they were already pulled. If I even only get a good front axle it will be worth it.
  13. I just spent ALL DAY reading your build. Really inspiring. You have good taste!
  14. The sockets are available at NAPA. Take your old one in and they will match it up with an exact duplicate. Comes with a pigtail and a crip connector on each wire.
  15. I found a good set of visors, so no need anymore for them. My current short center console looks just like the one pictured, but on mine the ring that goes around the boot is broken or something like that. I can't get it to snap into place.
  16. Went back out there and knocked all the tumbleweeds away so I could get a better look. Turns out it is was mfd. 9/02, so it is an early 93. Just from a visual, it sure does look like the axles are a fit. I haven't had a chance to look at the tranfercase yet, but am supposing it is an NP231 or a 242. Wasn't the 249 also an option? Does anyone know if the crossmembers are a fit?
  17. I believe most of the replacement slaves are self bleeding. I do not how to tell the difference.
  18. Ok, so I did a quick search on swapping a ZJ front axle into an XJ, and seems it is a doable swap. I had never read that before. I think I will drag the ZJ home and do some measuring. I sure would like it to work out.
  19. Maybe this post will help. http://comancheclub.com/topic/22972-slave-cylinder-location/
  20. Why the axles? Seats are pretty trashed. I'm only wanting parts that will redily fit on my MJ.
  21. I was at the auto parts store the other day, and saw a fellow jeeper (YJ) with the hood up and a bunch of tools scattered about. As I was leaving I swung by and asked if he needed assistance. So turns out he was not getting fuel as evidenced by an empty filter, so he had installed a new fuel pump in the parking lot, and it still wouldn't start. Someone before me had done a check for him and told him he needed a coil, so he had just installed a new one. Still no start. I grabbed my multimeter and an induction timing light I quickly figured out he had voltage up to the distributor. Turns out it was a points distributor, and so once I verified the points were clean and opening/closing corectly, I had him go inside and get a condenser. I swapped it in and the engine fired right up. He had an AMC 360 in it. So he was as happy as a guy can be since he had been there stuck for 3 hours, so we started talking jeeps. I was in my Comanche and all. I was mentioning I was looking for a cherokee so I could do a 4wd swap. He mentions he has one siiting in his back yard that I can have. He didn't know what year it was, but it had a 6 cylinder 4x4 automatic. That was all he knew. I thinking I just scored an XJ parts car, but it turns out it was a grand Cherokee limited. I still don't know what year it was since I didn't check closer once I saw what it was. The engine tranny and transfer case was already pulled out and in his barn. I didn't go look at it, but he said it ran when pulled last summer. After thinking it over, I'm wondering if there are any parts I should grab before the thing goes to the scrap yard. Anybody have any suggestions?
  22. The bearing was installed without the oiling holes aligned. More common than you think...
  23. Anybody have them installed? What kind of metal trimming is involved?
  24. Any type of a vacuum leak causes a high idle.
  25. How do we upload media to our library? I see that it exists, but no way to upload to it.
