Bolt broke off in yoke

Works like a charm! -
With my swap and “cheaping out” on a used trans with a bad 2nd gear synchro i was in close to a grand...and that’s doing the work myself and sourcing parts in the junkyard and replacing to new parts on nessacery parts... And it bit me in the rear after 3rd gear synchro went out and having to buy a good condition nv3550/a b&m short shifter so add about another grand to that... The only reason I went to 4.88s instead of 5.13s is that the shops I’ve called for gear work complained that 5.13s you’d have to cut into the Dana 30 to make it fit

What are you considering as shifters? The mechanism or the lever part with the shift gate? The 231 lever and shift gate are common on the Cherokees...
-
Yeah then sye would be your best choice
-
Wow that’s hefty, you can get an sye for the np231 from adams drive shaft for $170 and maybe an extra $10 shipped http://www.adamsdriveshaftoffroad.com/rough-trail-sye-kit-1/ I'm sure if you call them they can workout a deal with driveshafts being made..
-
Depending how high you go you don’t need an sye... if your going to try and swap to a 23 spline you might as well buy an np231 from a later model xj and be done with it... i got mine for $40 off craigslist and all I did was just add oil and go... Is your truck already 4wd or your making that swap as well? Also, if you have the thicker driveshaft you may need to consider having a new one made... florida driveline down in medley does driveshafts... When your ready to get driveshafts measured give them a call for prices or just go there personally

88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Probably still had about a foot until it was touching the ground...i had it down about a 1/4 way of the face of the freeze plug... ill double check again when I get some time to mess with it... I’ll keep this in mind the next time I try and drop the trans -
Bolt broke off in yoke
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Ok the yoke came in and it’s worth the $50 shipped to my house... the ears have so much meat compared to the old one that I plan on buying one for the front axle... I’m going to take it to a shop today to do that and some other work -
4.0 Back of head freeze plug
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just an update I dropped the crossmember, took both driveshafts off, loosened the motor mounts, took off all connections that would hold the transmission in place and still couldn’t drop it low enough to clear the freeze plug... i have it parked right now until the Comanche is ready to drive then I’ll get to pulling the head... -
4.0 Back of head freeze plug
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I was thinking the same, but I don’t have an impact gun to remove the bolts off of the flywheel my current one broke... ill just do the one on the head to drive again (diving wifes car) and when I get the impact gun I’ll drop the trans to do all the plugs... -

I’ve heard about the rubber plugs but that’s a temporary solution... i daily drive my xj as my mj from week to week I don’t want to do the same work twice Might have to try this solution when the plugs come in tomorrow I’ll be tackling it after work and come back with results thanks -

Good job bud, that blue interior is looking good! -
What’s up fellas Found out the freeze plug on the back of the head is leaking, has anyone has any experience with replacing one? What tips or tricks you did to replace it? I was thinking about dropping the trans or either pulling the head... has anyone done it still on the vehicle?
-
If your staying with the short arm set-up rustys offroad sells a 1” drop “heavy duty” crossmember
-
Just saw your link, that would work and it wouldn’t hit the exhaust with that square/bushing to hold the exhaust in place
-
I’ll double check my stash I think I haven’t thrown out a spare ax15 crossmember I had laying around... Make sure the ax15 has the transmission bracket from the trans to the crossmember This one https://m.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-Wrangler-TJ-AX15-Ax-15-Transmission-Mount-Bracket-Plate-6-Cyl-4-0-Manual-/263253742093?nav=SEARCH also, is your ax15 external or internal slave?

Bolt broke off in yoke
88whitemanche replied to 88whitemanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK tried the ez out option and it broke inside the hole made...this bolt is seized for sure! How hard is it to install the yoke? Many torque specs? Backlash? -
What would you guys recommend on removing this bolt? I was thinking about doing ubolt straps but haven’t found any write-ups on amc 20 is there a difference ?
-
Well the nv3550 came in, I’ll get pics on that next time...started to remove the bolts that mate the trans to the engine I got everything off until I started getting to the driveshaft... the very last bolt greeted me with this with out a force of a turn... now either I got to either drill it out and put the original bolts back in or plan for ujoints straps

I have one that constantly is hooting at night.... its an eastern screech owl... when I'm walking my dog, he hoots along and travels tree to tree.... After irma, I thought he was maybe hurt due to the harsh winds then the night after it past. he was up by my tree hooting away then I came out and he stopped... i guess it was one of those messages saying he was ok? Pretty cool indeed,
